Let's start the 2nd half right!

OK, with a few days off, I imagine the Angels are working on setting their rotation the best they can to open the 2nd half.  After Black Magic's disaster in Yankee stadium, I hope they make an effort to maximize his home starts and minimize the road starts (especially in tough stadiums).

So after the break, we have this:

3 vs Tex
3 at TB
3 at Min
3 vs Oak
3 vs Det
3 at Sea
4 at Oak

Star-divide

How about something like this:

Escobar
Lackey
Santana
-------
Weaver
Sanders
Escobar
-------
Lackey
Colon
Weaver
------
Santana
Escobar
Lackey
------
Sanders
Weaver
Santana
-------
Escobar
Lackey
Sanders or Colon

This way all of Black Magic's starts are at home, and Lackey and Escobar pitch as much as possible and they both go in the Seattle series too.  Not too many Colon starts and for that 3rd Seattle game we go with the best/healthiest choice.

good thinkin.
use our 3 consistent starters as much as possible, and use Ervin, colonel, or : depending on the situation.  plus, it kind of saves our arms for the post season. shoot an e-mail to sosh.  seriously.

I may be crazy, and some of you will think I am
but I think we should go with a four-man rotation. There's a lot of data out there showing that pitching more than 110 pitches per outing is much, much worse for a pitcher's health than having three day's rest instead of four.

Just imagine a rotation of Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, and Santana/Colon/Saunders (whoever seems to be most effective).

I hope you prepare to start
the All-Star Break, with three losses in a row and then be in second place!

Uh no.

Vlad will hit 5 home runs versus Texas to go with his 14 RBI.

I like how
Seattle coaches couldn't figure out King Felix's problems, but the M's bloggers could. That makes me tickle, but it should make you question them.

I like how the Angel coaches
keep pitching Colon despite him having the worst season of his career, and Santana on the road despite his horrendous ERA.

And that's mattered?
We've averaged 4.97 runs scored a game, vs M's 4.99.  Oh no!!

Nice work on that 4.79 runs allowed, though.  Real class act that rotation of yours is.  What a shame to waste that bullpen you have.

Look closely
I will grant the 5.2IP 1ER game against Boston is decent, though still a short outing.

-BUT-

4IP 1ER v SanD - 29th in MLB in AVG
6IP 3ER v ChiC - 9th (worst outing, and with 10 hits, 3ER is luck)
9IP 1ER v Pitt - 25th
8IP 1ER v Tor  - 22nd
5IP 1ER v Oak  - 23rd (as if I have to tell you how bad their offense is)

Let's see him go deep in a game vs a really good offense before you crown him Cy Young.

So when you lose 7 out of 10 after the break
Your season will be over, right?

Way to judge a season on 10 games.  You should apply for a scouting position with the M's.  Seriously.

Willits for ROY

by 101halo on Jul 8, 2007 11:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Here's the thing.
Your offense isn't going to continue like this either. Cabrera's having a career year and Willits isn't that good. All our players are hovering around their career averages. I think that means our offense will keep this up.
Visiting Mariners fan.

by Coach Owens on Jul 8, 2007 11:09 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Wrong.
Even assuming your offense stays consistent after the break, there's no way in hell Weaver or Bautista remain that good. Baseball is not a one-dimensional game, and scoring twelve runs won't help if your starter gives up thirteen.

Enjoy the mirage you're deluding yourself with now. It'll make the late September pain easier to stomach, I promise.

Dingers!
Boy, you've got to be a REAL idiot if you think insulting a team's home run production, when their offense still scores a lot of runs, is actually any kind of rebuttal.

Or just a terrible baseball fan.

Hey, in your defense...
the Mariners have been playing SPECTACULAR baseball!  It is nice to have some competition this year from the rain-soaked Northwest!

Best of luck to your boys in Aqua.  Hopefully we will both be in it up til the last day and we can finally get you guys back for 1995.  You can thank us, Mark Langston, especially for still having baseball in your gloomy area.

You owe us one, buddy.

For the good of the country and the Angels
I am prepared to go down as a martyr for the ages and kill Bartolo Colon, thus making him at least LESS likely to be used by Scioscia.

I make this sacrifice under one condition:

Rev, make sure I get a wikipedia page out of this, no longer how long it must be debated on a talk page.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 8, 2007 10:10 PM PDT   0 recs

Man,
You better make sure you take out Mickey Hatcher at the same time.

by Obscurity on Jul 8, 2007 10:13 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Kill him?
Why kill him?  Why not just lead him into a donut shop and let him gorge until he ends his season in a diabetic coma?
Ervin Santana To AAA! (But only for road games.)

by scareduck on Jul 9, 2007 8:17 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

What makes you think
that would stop Scioscia from using him?

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Jul 9, 2007 1:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Dunno
Is a 6 man rotation the answer?  Really, I'd like to see Saunders with more than 2 consecutive starts this season...

by Brendo on Jul 8, 2007 10:24 PM PDT   0 recs

Do Angel fans go over to LL to be lame?
I think going over to other blogs to rag on them is kinda low class.

And when you're team is in second place, out of the wild card and 2-7 against the team you're trying to rag on... Particularly pathetic.

by melvintoast on Jul 9, 2007 8:10 AM PDT   0 recs

The season is still long over...
and they've got Jose Guillen.

The guy is going to explode, hopefully it is a self-destructive kind of explosion like usual for him.  Otherwise, we could be in for a really exciting fight to the finish!
