Possibility of waiver deals??

I was reading an ESPN.com articl by Jerry Crasnick where he listed potential players to be moved through waivers.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2956988

He mentions Mike Piazza and I agree somewhat that they Angels could use his services but he seems somewhat immobile and would only block Jeff Mathis again, which is why they dropped Jose Molina in the first place. Another option I spotted below was Houston 3rd Baseman, Mike Lamb. This is intriguing to me because we were all talking about Morgan Ensberg as a viable option.

In my opinion Lamb may be a better fit since he is a left handed bat, not a great defender, but can play corner infield and outfield positions. He is hitting righties at an .819 OPS this year and .822 OPS the last 3 years, lefties seem to give him trouble over the course of his career but this year in 39 ABs his OPS is 1.041. I think he may be a more solid option than Quinlan down the stretch and in the playoffs, he could play 5 positions (including DH) and then Scioscia could spell any outfielder or corner infielder. He also has more power than Quinlan and is only a year older.

The Astros arent starting him anymore since they have acquired Ty Wiggington and so there seems to be a good chance he may go on waivers.
What do you guys think?

Before you say anything
I am aware that the Rivera and Quinlan options mean we would stand pat, i simply wonder what you think will be best down the stretch...
Paul O'Neill's a BITCH!

I voted for Lamb
He and Quinlan would make a nice platoon DH.  But I don't know how much we really need any of these guys.  Any bat acquired plays at the expense of Reggie Willits.  Of course, Anderson could get hurt again, putting Willits where he belongs in left, and we'd need a DH.  Lamb is versatile and helps us off the bench even if everyone else stays healthy, so I'm all for it as long as it doesn't cost a top prospect.
If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.

FYI about 3B
Figgy now has an OPS of .811 for the year, and 1.069 since the all star break.

Now I don't mean to think he'll continue at this pace, but it might be about time we stop speaking as if 3B is a black hole.

If we acquire a 3B, then where does Figgy go once Howie gets back?

4th in the AL in OPS for a 3B
Behind A-Rod, Lowell and Beltre.  That's pretty good company to be in.

According to Dan Fox
of Baseball Prospectus, Figgins' baserunning has been worth an additional 6 runs, second in the league.  That probably puts him ahead of SLowell as an overall player.  Obviously behind A-Rod, and probably behind Beltre because of his defense.

Is Figgins ahead of Glaus?  That's shocking.

Funny, isn't it...
...that we're talking about trading for Glaus to upgrade 3B, when really, at this moment in time, it would be a downgrade.

replying to myself, again
of the 4, figgy has the best OPS since the AS break, at 1.069.  Next is A-Rod at .882, Beltre at .842 and Lowell at .811.

In other words, 3B isn't our problem at the moment.  It's getting Vlad hitting again, keeping GA healthy, and getting Howie back for 2B.

A few others
There are a few other bats, who may or may not be available, that could upgrade the team's options at DH if they came cheaply enough.  Here are a few (in addition to Piazza) that might look interesting.

Matt Stairs: .867 OPS, 13 HR (.865 OPS and all of his HR against RHP)

Scott Hatteberg: .876 OPS, 8HR (.906, 7HR against RHP).

Mike Lamb: .858 OPS, 10 HR (.819, 7HR against RHP).
