American League MVP?
I'm currently debating a guy on Football's Future about who the American League MVP would be. He only listed Magglio Ordonez and Alex Rodriguez in the poll, showing he is an idiot. He then stats that it's Magglio Ordonez's award to win. We've been arguing for two pages, so far. The guy (on Page 1) will use some retarded variables to say that Ordonez is the guy because he simply just believes he is. He thinks that batting average and Runs Created Per Game (which is a great stat) is the be-all and end-all of all debates when talking about who is the Most Valuable Player. He continues (on Page 2) by saying that Gary Sheffield doesn't make a difference on the Tigers despite being tied for fifth in the American League in Runs Created Per Game. I have continued to smash him in the debate by posting things that are totally hard to refute. I even added in Ichiro Suzuki into the debate, because he deserves to be in there.
So, I was wondering who you guys would vote for if the MVP voting were to take place today. I think it'd be hard to go against Alex Rodriguez personally. I hate the Yankees but I think he's the only reason that they even stayed as close as they were to the Red Sox. He was their only offense early on. I have Vladimir Guerrero in second because his stats are a little lacking but his true value to the team is unmatched in the American League. I have Ichiro Suzuki third because of how much of an impact he has on that team and then you add in his stats. I have Magglio Ordonez fourth behind the other three, but slightly behind Ichiro. So, who gets your vote?

NY MVP
Remember each league city has the same number of voting shares.
Two things correlate enormously with MVP awards, players on playoff teams and RBI totals.
Good Work
Vlad has 17 win shares above bench, the other 3 have 16. No one else has more than 13.
Hate to say it
Truthfully, this year, it doesn't seem to me that Vlad has been quite as clutch as other years. He's no longer the sole reason we're winning ballgames, he's a part of a team that wins a lot of ballgames.
We've had a ton of help this year from unlikely sources: Figgy after a tough start, Kotch (who we didn't know what to expect), Izzy recently, even GMJ has had his share of big hits. There is also Willits who hasn't driven in the runs, but has been a huge tablesetter.
It seems from week to week it's a different guy stepping up to help us win. And that is great! It allows us to be a much more consistently winning ballclub, less prone to slides from one or two streaky hitters.
Don't get me wrong, Vlad is a machine and I wouldn't trade him for anything, I'm just saying he's getting a lot of great help this year.
Where's the love for Shea?
Ok well
If the season ended now, with Detroit in a tail spin and the Yankees out of the playoffs, Vlad would win. Unless they just handed it to every player on the Red Sox.

Best Player on Best Team is false
2006: Justin Morneau (2nd)
2005: Alex Rodriguez (t-2nd)
2004: Vladimir Guerrero (t-3rd)
2003: Alex Rodriguez (t-10th)
2002: Miguel Tejada (t-1st)
2001: Ichiro Suzuki (1st)
2000: Jason Giambi (2nd)
1999: Ivan Rodriguez (3rd)
1998: Juan Gonzalez (t-4th)
1997: Ken Griffey Jr. (3rd)
As you can see, only twice in the past decade has the MVP come from a team finishing the season tied for or owning the best outright record in the American League.
