Steve Phillips: Bonds to Angels or A's
It seems like certain A's players don't want him. Would you like him on the Angels? I wouldn't mind him, but I wouldn't like him. I just wonder what would happen when we have to put in Anderson or Guerrero as the designated hitter during some games. You can't have two designated hitters, that I know of. And what happens to Juan Rivera for that matter? Do we just trade him plus other players for a huge bat in the offseason to go with Guerrero and Bonds? Too many things would be screwed up, I think. We could trade Izturis, Santana, and Rivera to a team that needs young players that will help their team build for now and the future while getting back a player of a good talent level, someone like Miguel Cabrera perhaps. That's just one thought. Who knows, though.

Rivera
Bonds DHing for 100 games and Vlad for 62 equals one thing, and it goes on your finger.
He's Arbitration Eligible after this year

He's also tied for the ML lead in RC/G and . . .
He's also 10th in the ML in VORP while being 6th in the NL in VORP.
He leads the NL in Adjusted Equivalent Average, is 11th in Adjusted Equivalent Runs, and he's 3rd in Adjusted Runs Above Position. He's also the top LF according to those variables. Not just in the National League, but in the Majors.
He'd be a welcome offensive addition to the Angels, no doubt about that.
Circus
I'd go for it
Finally, it gives Rev a chance to catch his last and final record HR and become a gazillionaire and retire to devote full time to Halodom.
do not want...
Granted, he'd hit a ton of bombs. I just don't think the team would stay cohesive as they are with someone like him in there.
Plus, how old is he? 43-44... too old for me.

The order is open to debate, but it does look interesting. That being said Bonds has WAY too much baggage, as has been discussed previously. The Angels success in 2008 will be far more dependant on the development of their younger players.
This team is too good

Granted Bonds is head and shoulders above your Vaughns, but it's not happening.
The EastcoastSPN has been "forecasting" the Angels to sign Bonds since at LEAST March 2006, if not earlier. They're lost in their conviction that we'll never be worth anything until and unless we get a guy of Bonds' caliber, and not even then.
Bastards.

No Way
Bonds needs to be signed
Bonds would contribute to the Angels, but we don't need him. You know how they say "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Well... we already beat 'em.
Bonds wants to play one more year for a ring
Contract:
signed deal for 2007 season worth $15.8M on 1/30/07- + he can earn $4.2M in performance bonuses: $500K for 250 plate appearances, $1M each for 300, 375 and 450 plate appearances, and $700K for 525 plate appearance- + $5.8M of his salary will be deferred until 2008 w/out interest and all earned bonuses are deferred to 2009 with interest- + as part of the deal, no part of Bonds' personal staff (i.e. trainers Harvey Shields and Greg Oliver) is under Giants' payroll meaning they are banned from entering MLB-designated restricted areas- + he receives a complete NO-TRADE clause as a 10-and-5 player- + as per terms of the Uniform Player Contract, his remaining salary becomes non-guaranteed (w/ the option of voiding the deal) if he fails to maintain good citizenship (i.e. he is charged with a crime/convicted/indicted/arrested)*- + as part of the deal, Bonds waives the right to ask the players' association to file a grievance if he is indicted and the contract is terminated, though the union does retain the right to file a grievance independently- + he receives a luxury suite at AT&T Park for five games and gets five free lower box seats for all road games- + he receives a hotel suite on road trips- + he has the right to occupy as many lockers as he needs- + the contract was not immediately approved by MLB because it contained a personal-appearance provision that had to be eliminated- + he will conduct dugout press briefings the first say of each road series- + 2006 salary: $18M (+ $5M of each year's salary from 2002 thru 2006 was deferred until 2007 thru 2011 at 3.5% interest), 2005: $20M, 2004: $16M (+ $4M of signing bonus), 2003: $13M (+ $3.5M of signing bonus), 2002: $13M (+ $2.5M of signing bonus)- + bonuses he has received: $50K for 2004 Silver Slugger, $500K for 2004 NL MVP
*Exact language of that portion of the deal as acquired by the Associated Press: "Player acknowledges and agrees that an indictment for any criminal act under [a list of criminal acts including tax evasion and perjury] ... is proper grounds for termination of this contract..Player also acknowledges and agrees that he will not grieve, appeal or otherwise challenge any club action to terminate this contract as a result of player's indictment for any criminal acts [specified] ... nor will he cause or authorize any third party, such as the Major League Baseball Players Association, to grieve, appeal or otherwise challenge any club action to terminate this contract as a result of players' indictment for any [specified] criminal acts." His agent this additional standard language in the contract would be unenforceable if the matter were litigated because baseball's collective bargaining agreement which has different language would take precedence. Because of that, his agent said the inclusion of the added provision is meaningless.

He can take up as many lockers
"All right, we've got everything we want...performance bonuses, luxury suites, hotel suites on road trips...but we're not going ANYWHERE until Barry gets more lockers!"
