Re-Tread

I know this is something we've gone over ad nauseum, but the Miami Herald ran a story today about Marlins first round pick, 3B Matt Dominguez. The article doesn't necessarily mention anything new, but it does speculate as to whether or not M. Cabrera will be traded.

"Even though Miguel Cabrera is at third base, there's speculation the Marlins will eventually trade him because they won't be able to pay what he will demand as a free agent. Cabrera is making $7.4 million this season and he will get a big bump in pay next season."

That's next year. I'm more interested in winning
the world series THIS year.

They can have
Jered, Chone, Wood, and Reggie.  But I doubt that gets it done.

Your'e Crazy Kiss of Death
What have you been smoking? I wouldn't trade Jered and Chone for Cabrera, let alone throw in the other two....

Cabrera is a great talent to be sure but there have been more than a few whispers about his questionable work ethic and selfishness.... I wouldn't want him on the Angels, really. We have the second best record in baseball without him. Why would you destroy the top third of our order and give them our best young pitcher for one player who is potentially a standoffish cancer?

I expect
Reggie to be of little to no value after this season.  The struggling Reggie is at least closer to the real Reggie on the Major League level.  Chone will never be worth more again, and will never hit .340 again.  Jered is not going to be a staff ace, and in short order will be replaced by a younger, better Adenhart.  There are plenty of guys that will be available via trade or F.A. that could fill in for Jered without being a huge hit to the Angels' rotation.  Wood is unproven at best.  On my blog (link below) I wrote about where I think he'll end up in the majors, and I think he'll be good.  But he won't be Miguel Cabrera, or even really that close.  MCab is probably a generation-defining talent, like A-Rod.

We could always trade for Peavy
According to Peavy, San Diego won't give him the money he wants after 2009 and might trade him. We could trade Brandon Wood, Juan Rivera, Ervin Santana, and Nick Adenhart for him. He's only 26 years old. He's a staff ace. He's been in the playoffs. He's tough. He's dominant.

And we could then sign Alex Rodriguez.

Scoreboard!

Ring Count and Age
A-Rod:     Rings = 0   Age = 32
Miggy C:  Rings = 1   Age = 24

please refer to the above if you don't think Mr. Wood can cut it and we need an import. And also consider probable salary.

He's still got
300 pounds to go before he's half of David Ortiz's weight.  And then another 50 before he's half of Mo Vaughn's.  I'm not that worried about that...especially if he gets a good talking to about how much money he stands to make if he stays in shape.
