John the Baptist

Panther of the Game: John Lackey

Thunder Mountain, Big Bad John, or just plain ol' John was nails tonight.  Dug the suicide squeeze, GA's home run, seeing McClaren getting run, and Mice Tits being Mice Tits.  Good Game Fellas!

Panther is Lackey
No doubt. That was ace pitching.

But G.A. is Panther Jr.--what a lift if he can produce like this throughout Sept!

Funniest quote from LL game thread:
the good news: Ervin Santana tomorrow
the bad news: being shut down by Ervin Santana is going to be waaaay more annoying than being shut down by Lackey.

Blue shirts?
That was a sorry showing for a lolli-blue-za (on top of a terrible name for an event).  I saw more white than blue, easy.

i don't understand any of their crap
funk blast, rally fries, and their mascot is a moose.  did anyone read Jay Mohr column on stupid mascots. "Why is the Seattle Mariners' mascot a Moose? A mariner is a seafaring explorer. I don't think the ancient mariners came across many moose on the open seas. Something went horribly wrong in the marketing department in Seattle"

but i guess we have the rally monkey and now the rat

Why are the Mariners fans so upset?
The team they have a chance to catch ended up losing anyway....

Big John: Panther all the way
He was surprisingly calm.  He's usual kind of hyper, win or lose.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

Interesting ..
Over at LL, they have the Angels blog linked to http://haloheaven.com/ - which if you click through, is decidedly NOT our beloved Angels blog.  Wonder if it's intentional?  I bet their getting a good laugh that it's a wholesaler for halos, wands and wings!

It's just as unintentional
as Rev's preseason "Trade Grading" report which listed Hillenbrand as a D-, and linked to a picture of a clown.

Nice score to wake up to...
...been worrying a little about this series (really didn't want to have to see them go past us on their patch).

That's a superb marker to lay down by the big fella.

I missed it too but woke up happy
Halos made a statement.

Nice to see McLaren get tossed, too. Pennant race meltdown.

Considering he was pitching with a horrible case
of strep throat, he is John The Baptist right now.

All the more
impressive, given that Lackey is apparently coming down with strep throat.  Time to quarantine him!

It is guaranteed ....
... that the Halos will be in first place Friday night when Roger and I will be at the Big A for the first time since June 19th.

Monday was a big win for John Lackey considering the Tuesday and Wednesday pitching match-ups favor the Mariners.  Going into this series I figured the Angels would win 1-of-3.  With the first game win there is now a 45% chance that the Angels will win this Seattle series.  I like Weaver the Younger chance against King Felix on Wednesday better than Evil Ways Santana against Weaver the Elder on Tuesday.

The silver lining of a loss or two at Seattle is that it will make it that more difficult for the Yankees to be the wild card.  Would not it be nice if both the AL and NL wild cards came from the west?  ESPN would then have to quote Jim Morrison "the west is the best, get here and we will do the rest."

by Yetijuice on Aug 28, 2007 1:33 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

How'd you calculate the 45%?
http://kotchatthebat.livejournal.com/

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 28, 2007 1:43 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually it is higher than that
There is a 45% chance the Angels will win the Wednesday finale in Seattle.  I am picking Weaver the Elder to defeat Ervin Santana in tonight's game.  Yes, WTE was atrocious as an Angel in 2006.  However, as a Cardinal I saw the elder Weaver defeat the Dodgers in July and the Padres in October.  Santana is pitching on the road where he frequently suffers breakdowns.  Good news--Santana is 18-4 when I see him pitch and I will see him pitch Monday at the Big A against the A's.

Jimmy the Greek no doubt would give the Halos about a 65% chance of winning at least one of the two remaining games in Seattle.  As always I reserve the right to be wrong.  We are flying from Kathmandu to LAX via Bangkok tomorrow.  We will have to depart for Tribhuvan International Airport about the 8th inning of the Tuesday Angels @ Mariners game.  Friday night will be the next Angels game we attend.

by Yetijuice on Aug 28, 2007 8:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Possible outcomes of the two remaining games
are:

w-w
w-l
l-w
l-l

Since the only scenario where the Halos lose the series is l-l, then the probability of winning the series is 1-pl1*pl2 where pl1 and pl2 are the individual probabilities of losing.

So if you assume 50%, pl1*pl2 = 25%.  1-25% = 75% probability of winning the series.

A 60% chance of losing each game would still yield a 64% chance of winning the series.

All of this is moot since we really want the sweep. 3-0 makes it 5 GA, 2-1 makes it 3 GA

WTE outpitched Santana
I filled in the blanks with the Angels having a 30% chance to win Tuesday and a 45% chance to win Wednesday.

Currently the Angels and Mariners are tied 5-5 in the middle of the 6th inning of the 8/28 game.  Ervin Santana gave up 5 earned runs in 0.1 innings and Jeff Weaver gave up 5 earned runs in 4.1 innings.  It says here that WTE outpitched Santana tonight.  Hopefully the Angels will prove me wrong and win at least 2 games in this series.

We are off to the airport in 15 minutes.  We will take off knowing that the Halos will be in first place when we go to the Big A on Friday night.

Did anyone hear GA
On the Rome show? How did he come across?

When I used to work for the team, GA was a pretty funny relaxed guy most of the time.

Karma
It would be nice for GA to have some jungle karma through the pennant drive.

by anaheimisnotla on Aug 28, 2007 6:37 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Typical GA... He was so lazy that he didn't even
come into the studio.  He actually laughed a few times during the interview.  I heard him on Simers Squared a few months back.  I guess he and Simers have a good relationship.  He was laughing and making jokes, when I first tuned in I had know idea who it was.

Bavasi was also on Rome yesterday.  I guess the karma doesn't work for the front office.
