Flying out early in the morn.  Thanks for the nighttime OPD thread.

Tomorrow's game is on big FOX right?  Good.  I'll be the guy in the Angels tee charging the mound when the Oakies retaliate for the retaliation of HK's broken hand.

Bummer I won't get to see Vlad even swing the bat...

P.S.  I hope I'm wrong about everything I just wrote.

We'll be fine.

Nick Swisher is the only A that scares me
.321/.472/.679, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 7 BB, 7 R over his last nine games.

They have him for so cheap this season, $700k. They have him cheap over the next four years as well, $24.55-million which comes out to just $6.14-million per year over that time. Pretty good deal for the A's.

God the FOX announcers are idiots
A-Rod is a shoe in for the AL MVP award. It's already done and over with.

Get over it. You don't need to make the playoffs to win it, it helps but it's not a requirement.

Let's not forget, he won it in Texas on a last place team.

"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." - Sir Winston Churchill

by WeaverMania on Aug 4, 2007 2:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed. You take A-Rod off that team
and they have no hopes of making the postseason. They'd be like a dozen-plus games back even though they've gotten hot lately.

Vlad has the next best bid. Ordonez is interesting, but Los Tigres are still scuffling because of their starting pitching problems.

The only way that A-Rod doesn't win
is if he goes cold all of the sudden in August and September while Vladiator just goes absolutely nuts in August and September.

That's the only way.

If the tigers take it
Magglio Ordonez gets the MVP, barring a repeat of A-rod's April or Vlad has an obvious "team-carry" in the last 2 weeks of the season.

by Rev Halofan on Aug 4, 2007 2:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

A-Rod is better than Ordonez in OPS+ and VORP
A-Rod has a 173 OPS+ while Ordonez is at 163.

A-Rod has a 58.5 VORP while Ordonez is at 54.6.

In case anyone didn't know, Hanley Ramirez (61.0) and Miguel Cabrera (58.7) lead the league in VORP.

Your commitment to incivility is duly noted
Every time I explain this, I get shouted down with a bunch of BS name-calling, either encouraged or instigated by you, amplified by the usual "true fan" crap argument pulled by so many second-graders.

The M's have a mediocre offense, an unimpressive rotation, and a good-not-great bullpen that includes the best closer in the division.  They're getting a decent season out of Adrian Beltre, probably the second-best year of his career, Ichiro is Ichiro again, and Jose Guillen is proving useful.  The flaws are pretty obvious, starting with a rotation that has yet to evict Jeff Weaver (2-10, 6.32 ERA) and Horacio Ramirez (6-3, 6.63 ERA). Eventually, they're not gonna be quite so run-support lucky with those two.

Hoping Ervin Santana turns it around in Salt Lake. Go, Ervin!

This ump
Is one miserable bastard. Almost as if he enjoys squeezing pitchers and making their walks go up.

by Angels on Aug 4, 2007 2:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Hell with that....
this ump does not know what a strike looks like!

Watch GAMEDAY...Escy threw 2 of those pitches right dowdn the middle for called "BALLS"

Stop swinging at balls out of the zone!

by K3YEROUT on Aug 4, 2007 2:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yea
This ump is a loser.

He calls some pitches strikes and calls the same exact pitches balls the next time. Umps like that one are the worst kind.

by Angels on Aug 4, 2007 2:56 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

All of a sudden
he is calling the outside corner a strike...has been a ball ALL day!

day and now it is a ball...what is that?

this game feels surreal
"balls" that are straight down the middle, these announcers who are so obviously biased towards the A's.

It's been 7 innings of mediocrity.

COME ON HALOS.....GET IT MOVING!!!!

Why does Scioscia always do this?
If he has one huge flaw as a manager it's too much faith in his pitchers. He should have had someone warming up two walks ago.

this can't be real'

by UCIHalo on Aug 4, 2007 2:59 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Seriously
If I were Escobar, i'd tell Mathis to purposely not catch it and allow a 95+ MPH fastball hit him right in the gut.

it was worse!  ...and he played for the A's for awhile!

Scioscia and Escobar should be all over this f*cking ump. Instead of just being silent and a pussy about it, let him have it.

the past three loses have been the worst of the season.  horrible games we should have won but we didn't because we just couldn't do the small things and made stupid mistakes

Kelvim Escobar has been shit on more
this season by his offense than any pitcher I've ever seen.

How the fuck do you lose games 2-1, 2-0, and 2-1? He got a no decision in a 2-1 game also.

Fuckin' pathetic. The Angels offense should just take turns getting the shit kicked out of them by Kelvim's hoochies.

In his last six starts, Escobar is 2-3 with a 1.61 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. It's disgusting. The team has scored 14 runs in those six games.
