Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Is it OK to root for the A's now?

Normally I detest the A's and everything they stand for, as I know many of you do as well.  I checked tonight's score and saw they were up 5-0 in the second inning.  My immediate reaction was disgust.  But then, they are playing Seattle, and if they win this game it gets us a little closer to our rightful playoff spot.  An added bonus is that a strong finish by the A's, lets say they get over .500, means that Billy Beane's draft pick will not be protected.  I'd hate to see them spend money on a decent free agent (I know, if they do it will be the first time) and still pick 12 or 13 in next year's draft.  I'd rather them be in a spot where they can't sign anybody because to do so would mean giving up their #16 or #17 pick.

Only if the pennant race was close and we really needed the Mariners to lose

Yes, but only because the A's are out of it

I realize
that TB and Bal are in the AL East, but Boston seems to play one of those two teams all of the time.
Stay on the damn bag!!

Or perhaps
all of the time you care to pay attention.

I'm with him
I asked my Red Sox fan friend on Monday, "So, how many games did you play against Baltimore the last week, 12?"

And he replied, "Something close to it."

Unless
They are the A's, Dodgers, Boston or the Yankees.

I'd rather have to GO TO Seattle for a 1-game playoff or play 3 of 5 in Boston than to have to root for any of those 4 above mentioned clowns.

Like my signature says....
I would rather the Angels take care of business themselves then root for the those jackasses from NorCal...
A big FU to the A's and Red Sox....

Easy
on bashing NorCal jackasses.  There are quite a few cool A's fans that are good friends of mine whom i enjoy and don't write stuff like you just did.

Fremont Fan
Sucks.  If you want to read nice things about them drop in on their drum circle when you are not visiting here.

I have plenty of A's fan friends and their mouths are far filthier than "jackasses"

I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

I just don't
understand the need to trash them with expletives or other filthy language on a public forum like HH.  Kids read this stuff ya know.

fair enough
jackass is used in primetime television though so it can not be that bad

Have you ever READ
how A's fans feel about the Angels?

I could load up this entire page with repulsive comments including, but not limited to, explicit desires to kill our players.

Seriously. Defend some more worthy group of animals, if you must.

I'm not
defending anyone but my friends who don't wish to kill players---guys, check your emotions at the door---and stooping to their level is an indication of your maturity. The other comment is a perfect example of how we've (d)evolved as a society.

I'm with you Sacto
One of my best friends lives in the bay area and is a die-hard A's fan.  Part of what makes our friendship great is the informed-ribbing we give each other.  Gives us both perspective and makes it that much more enjoyable to watch baseball.

Especially when said person now owes you a bottle of 12-year aged Jameson.

It's OK
As long as you're focused on a good strategic outcome.  Like helping the Halos clinch the division, homefield, or ensuring future Angel dominance.  Heck, I might even cheer for the Mariners in their upcoming series vs. Cleveland.

Forget about Seattle
This thing is over.

Seattle is choking like a dying dog.  Root for them so Fremont drops into 4th

to me its about the draft pick now
Seattle's dead, but go A's - get a lower draft pick.

by rbrianc on Sep 11, 2007 2:36 AM PDT reply actions

God no
Not ever. I don't care if they get higher draft picks. I just despise the green and gold scum so much that I want them to lose all the time, period.

One of my happiest memories is the Reds (who I could care less about) sweeping the hell out of the A's -- Canseco, McGwire, Weiss, Gallego, Eckersley, Stewart et al. -- in the 1990 WS.

with a better record than us, we go to Boston for the Div Playoffs

Boton in a best of 5?
hmmmm, we'd have to steal one of the first 2 in boston to have a chance.

Texas
Don't look now, but Texas has a pretty good shot of moving ahead of Choakland this week. I would love to watch the A'ss end up in the cellar.

by anaheimisnotla on Sep 11, 2007 9:07 AM PDT reply actions

It's simple.
You want the A's to continue to linger in the cellar? Root for them to have a strong final three weeks so that they aren't compensated with higher draft picks.

Get over your pride and support the outcome that helps us most.

by cardinalwraith on Sep 11, 2007 9:14 PM PDT reply actions

Sweeter justice would be...
pulling for the A's to do just a little better and get ahead of Seattle...

BUT

Texas stays hot and rips ahead of both of them!

This leaves the A's out of last place, for those concerned about draft choices. But it is where Seattle ends up! What a flameout! One of the great collapses of all time!! Both teams get hosed.

by Stirrups on Sep 11, 2007 11:27 PM PDT reply actions

I WANT THE A'S TO HAVE A HIGH DRAFT PICK
They will be to cheap to sign a good player so they will draft a 2nd rounder anyway or lose the player they sign for lack of good bid money...

I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

by hauldog on Sep 12, 2007 9:14 AM PDT up reply actions

Last few times
They had top 10 draft picks they were not too cheap to sign Chavez, Mulder, and Zito.

The A's and their fans know they're out of it and are rooting for draft picks at this point.  So I'd prefer they be disappointed in that as well.  Don't want them getting a player like that, and I don't need to have them in last place to feel good.  Having them out of the pennant race by August is good enough for me.  I'm all for them getting hot and winning 81-83 games.

If I went to war and could only take one weapon, it would be an HK47.
