My "I told you so" on GA

I wish I knew how to do the link thingy where you can just bold a word and that's the link (maybe Rev can clean the link up?).  But, I don't, so here is my 'I told you so' to the likes of darkangel01, CaLiKrAzY, jimmuscomp, stalr, etc.

Some of the quotes in hear are fabulous:

but... but...
he can drive in runs...

- CaLiKrAzy

"GA should be platooning...
with Shea as the DH until Juan Rivera comes back when he will become the DH and GA and Shea will become bench riders.

He isn't an offensive threat any longer, he is overpaid, bad in LF, slow on the bases and a hack-tastic hitter.

Just like Erstad last year, I hope he gets hurt so that management isn't tempted to play him..."

- jimmuscomp

Willits should be the everyday LF, and at best G.A. should split time with Q at DH until Rivera returns after which he should ride the pine

- darkangel01

For more gems like this, check out the link!

Ofcourse, I'm not trying to single out these people or even this link as there were hundreds probably like this on this site, but this was my personal favorite.

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

good point
I can't of had to say something and keep my word though because of this post:

"you seriously think he should be riding pine
in this lineup?  And who should start instead?  You can't say Willits because he's already in the lineup.

I just want it to be in writing so later in the season (barring injury) when its so painfully obvious you're wrong I'll have proof."

Is'nt this what being a baseball fan is all about?
Always standing up faithfully for a player you honestly believe in and being the first to throw an underperforming player under the bus?  It's all in the game kids.

I have to admitt....
I was wrong about GA as well.  I thought he was done after the hip flexor thingy.  He might power us to another World Series championship though...lets hope he stays hot the rest of the year and beyond!

In other news...can you believe the White Sox have a worse record then the Kansas City Royals?  I thought they were suppose to be good?!

I was wrong
I was willing to have an open mind in spring training when everyone said GA was healthy.  Then when things went badly in the first half and he got hurt again, I thought it was over for him.  I absolutely agreed with using an outfield of Vlad, GMJ, and Reggie while GA platooned at DH until Juan returned....  Silly me.  This is why I don't manage a baseball team.

And I am both amazed and thrilled by what GA has done the past couple months.  Let's hope it continues.  If it does, we actually have the "big bat" that everyone has been seeking to protect Vlad.

This Is My Favorite...
"The Angels would be a better team if they just cut him."

I'll leave it to you to follow the link, rather than naming names, but, needless to say, well, it's...needless to say.

Don't ask Angel fans who should be in the lineup, that's for sure.  If the Angels' "fans" ran the team, Jeff DaVanon, Orlando Palmeiro, Brandon Wood, Terry Evans, Nick Gorneault, Sean Rodriguez, and this injured version of Juan Rivera would be among the starters.  The only thing that is unanimous around here is that Vladimir Guerrero should be in the lineup somewhere.  Of course, if Vlad goes hitless for more than one night, even that seems to become debatable.

"The Angels would be a better team if they just cut him."  I don't think that one will ever fail to elicit a chuckle from me.

411...
GA's average numbers during his last four years of injury and frustration?

.289/.329/.450
16 HR/83 RBI/140 H/27 2B

These are his AVERAGES during the WORST four year stretch of his career.

What the Angels pay him is a separate issue.

The man deserves his due (and gets it, generally, only during a hot streak).

All I know is that opposing pitchers love the idea of platooning/benching/releasing GA.

"The Angels would be a better team if they just cut him." (still chuckling).

Problem is
.289/.329/.450 is basically average for a left-fielder. And "the worst four year stretch" of people's careers frequently correlate to their last four years, when they're in their 30s.

I'm tickled that he's on fire. But it isn't crazy to point out that you shouldn't expect great things from him, and that you're better off being pleasantly surprised than counting on him to go apeshit like he has in the 2nd half.

+1
I'm glad he's doing this now, and the fact is he is our LF for this year's playoffs.

But, for next year they had better at least have a platoon mate ready to hit LHP.  (GA stinks it up in even numbered years versus lefties.)

this link
was much more than a 'we don't expect great things from him' link.

Also, its amazing how hot some guys are when they're finally healthy.  Beginning of this year he was healthy, hitting the ball hard, things weren't falling and people were all over him.

He will never be Vlad or even GA in his prime, but cut him or platoon him with Shea or sit him on the bench or don't even let him bat 7?  Please.

(This ofcourse isn't all directed at you, just at the link being mentioned)

The only thing I love
more than Garret performing like this is the fact that I don't have to be among the crow-eaters on the topic.
