So, 375 people showed up to watch the Nationals/Marlins game

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/13/marlins-entertain-76-000-empty-seats-and-375-fans-for-trop ical-c/

Makes you appreciate what we have.  It was so empty that one fan was tossed from the stadium for arguing with the umpire, and the ump could hear him (seriously).  It was so empty that when Byung-Hyun Kim struck out, his f-bomb could be heard clearly on the television broadcast.  Here's a picture of the 76,000 empty seats:

Sounds like
the good old days here at Aloha Stadium and the PCL Hawaii Islanders ... wait, they would pull in over 500 all the time. So. In your face Florida.

375!
This story is everywhere in the blogosphere.  Makes you understand why baseball wants the tickets sold announced as the attendance.

Maybe the Marlins should be a travelling team.  They would get much better attendance in any city that only gets a few MLB games a year.

I think we might need
to all band together and root for the Marlins.  They are a complete non-threat to us except in the random years that we play them.

Go Fish!

2 World Series Rings
In the last decade.  'Course, they dismantled both those teams, but you have to take the downs with the ups.

True Dat
The first one was clearly bought and paid for. afterwards, they realized they couldn't afford it and dumped the team. people groused about the dumping, and even players regretted the dismantling. but, like, what part of DUH did they not understand? it was artificial to begin with, with at least 'some' inflationary impact on player salaries.

It was unreal to begin with, and many of those who complained about it were the very ones who benefitted from that unreality.

I've been there and it is the worst stadium
to watch baseball...its a great stadium to watch football though. Maybe they can play at the UM baseball stadium, that holds 5,000....
A big FU to the A's and Red Sox....

Hey
Not a half bad idea.  They should at least play there on weekdays.  You have all the students who have odd schedules and may be free in the afternoon.

Also, you have the metrorail that runs right by UM so lots of people could access it.  Plus all summer that field sits unused.  (I like it when a college and a short season team share the same field, they can both use it for their whole season and they get a nicer field than either could afford on their own.)

i don't understand florida.
it seems like they're not ready for a big league team, always dismantling winners and trying to cut money. why even have a team then? and why did the baseball gods deem them worthy of two ws championships?

even now, they have two players i would kill to have on the angels and team that is decent with the kind of payroll they have. as far as i'm concerned, the marlins deserves this.

"it's mind-bottling."

Mexican Marlins?
I remember reading at the time of the Montreal Expos transition to the Washington Nationals that the Florida Marlins could relocate to Monterrey Mexico.  And that there are a lot of stadiums already in Monterrey because of the teams that operate in the area.

Then they could re-align the league by converting the "Monterrey Marlins" into a NL West Team, move Colorado to a Central Team, and moving either the Pirates or the Brewers into the East.
