Blame of the Game: Chris Bootcheck

Gotta go with Bootcheck, because he just did not look good.

Although, we lost toady I just want to say thanks for a great season fellas.

Hopefully we will find our offense in Boston. Voodoo had a very nice inning pitching. I am very excited to see the playoff roster. Mike and the rest of the staff have some hard decision to make. Anyone care to guess what the playoff roster would look like? I'd like to see Haynes make it. Between Voodoo and Grimace, I have no idea.

Also, thanks for a great rally rat pack weekend Rev.

Playoff Roster Guess
Pitchers
----------
Bootcheck
Colon
Escobar
Lackey
Oliver
Frankie
Magic
Shields
Speier
Weaver

Position
---------
Mathis
Napoli
Aybar
Cabby
Figy
Izzy
Howie
Casey
Kendry
Quinlan
Anderson
Vlad
Rivera
Matthews*
Willits

*If Matthews can't go then sub Haynes.

And the halo shines tonight

by BP Scanner on Sep 30, 2007 8:30 PM PDT reply actions

No way...
Bootcheck makes the roster in front of Moseley and no way either of them makes it in front of Saunders.

Basically, it will probably be:

Pitchers: 10 total

Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, Saunders, Colon, Santana, Oliver, Shields, Speier, K-Rod

(Moseley could sneak in if Scioscia doesn't keep either of Colon or Santana)

--------

Position Players: 15 total

Napoli, Mathis, Kotchman, Kendrick, Cabrera, Figgins, Izturis, Quinlan, Morales, Anderson, Matthews, Rivera, Vlad, Willits, Haynes

If Matthews can't go - I would go with a wild card - Brandon Wood or Terry Evans - but that is just me.

for the first series
I would go with this line-up.  Fatolo pitched his way in out of the pen as far as I'm concerned.
GA GA he's the man, if he can't do it, no one can

Tough calls
You plan to leave Saunders and Moseley off in favor of Fat Bart and Head case Ervin?  No way Saunders gets left off that roster.  This team ran on Moseley and Boot for the entire year...I do not envy MS and BS for that call!  Frankly, I think one (or both) of Colon or Ervin gets left off.

My only beef with your positional players is Aybar.  He cost us more games than he won.  There is no place for his kind of rookie (or lack of brain) errors.  I would prefer to see Haynes or another pitcher.  Bank on the fact that Willits or Haynes is going to have to play CF some in this series.  HGH Jr's knee had been bothering him for a month or two already, it isn't going to go away quickly!

There is a DL this year during the playoffs.

Ps...we are a better team with Mice Tits at 3b and Figgy in RF or DH...only trouble with Figgy DH'ing is if he has to go into the game we lose the DH.

I think
they have to submit the roster by noon on October 1st.  They can change it if the first game is rained out.

by Neo8234 on Oct 1, 2007 12:46 AM PDT up reply actions

I thought they had until 10am Gameday....
So for us it would be wednesday at 10am. I also remember hearing that you can change the roster up until 2Hrs before the game.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by acuda27 on Oct 1, 2007 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions

Actually
I believe I read a quote from BS or MS that said they changed the rules this year and the final playoff roster is not set til lineup cards are exchanged or a few minutes before game 1.

The other change was the allowance of use of the DL with doctor's orders or some such dribble.

Does ANYONE think that we're going to win?
Mostly everyone on talk radio after the game sounded pessimistic. Eight out of the ten "experts" on ESPN picked the Sox to win. Scareduck thinks we're going to get swept. Even the tone in the LA Times' non-opinion, straight-up reporting articles make the Halos' situation seem bleak.

Seriously, was everyone this morose in 2002? What about 2004 or 2005?

According to one betting line
Red Sox pays -175 vs Halos +135.

If you assume that betting lines result in zero net cash flow, then 60% of the money thinks that the Red Sox will win.

In 2002 the Angels were the wild card playing the Yankees in the first round.  No one gave them a chance.

Incidentally, the correlation between GA catching the last out in the playoff clinching game and the Angels winning a world series is 1.000

And all that pessimism means
most of those people are wrong most of the time while the more of them are incorrect more of the time.

What happens outside the lines don't change what happens between them. Play Ball

Now even the Chronicler is giving up.
It's like the Angels have to circle the wagons here to keep from being completely overtaken by pessimism.

Scareduck
Goes into everygame thinking we are going to lose
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

I was in Seattle this past weekend
i didn't know where to fit this post in and it has no need for its own diary. ANYWAY, i was up in Seattle for the SC/UW football game and i have a buddy who's also an SC alum but born and raised in Seattle.  he ended up with tickets to Friday night's game against Texas and my first trip to Safeco.  "WOW!!" is all i can say about that ball park...food, open space to see the game while you walk the concourse including behind the bullpens and then the retractable roof covered the place in the 6th inning.

we had to leave in the 8th but i stood up and thanked the Mariner fans for a great season...of course my friend said "he's an Angel fan!"..i got some ribbing and one person offered to trade Safeco Field for Vlad straight up.

amazing place but i like our team better! :)

I live up here
...and the Safe is a FABULOUS ballpark!  If you haven't been there you need to see a game there!  If you can get into the Club level...do it!  The food / bar there is incredible.  Skybridge from the parking lot right into the Club level.  Nooks/crannies are awesome.  If you buy a $7 bleacher seat in CF, nothing stops you from standing behind the plate in the equivalent of the Terrace level for the entire game except for a yellow line behind the seats there.

Awesome bullpen views...BS with the players at ground level.  Stand 5 feet from the Visitor pitcher warming up!

Bring your wallet though cuz this place is EXPENSIVE unless you sit in the CF bleachers...

yep
i loved that bullpen concourse setup.  i remember getting into a little barb with someone on here about building a new stadium and after seeing safeco...WOW, it would be nice.
