Never thought I'd see his name in lights again. The good side of erratic was here again!

ANGELSWIN???
Please put a space in there...that name makes me want to puke

by ladybug on Sep 3, 2007 9:04 PM PDT reply actions

Panther? Absolutely it is Ervin.
What a turnaround.  Given his fragile emotional state, the smile coming off the mound and the tip of the cap was awesome.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

in his locker
Mike Napoli has a post-it note that reads: Note to self: Google this Pipp guy...Wally Pipp
I bleed Angel red

Has Jeff Mathis
rediscovered what it once meant to be...Jeff Mathis?

Since the day after he took over for Mike Napoli because of his injury, he's batting .265 with an .808OPS, 4HRs, 19RBIs, 16Rs, and 10 doubles in 34 games.

The average is climbing right now
but Mathis has never projected to somehow who is going to hit for a huge average.  His ceiling is probably around .275/20/80, with a very good glove, decent speed on the bases for a catcher, and probably an .850OPS.

About rating possitions
Who was rated higher by the Angles organization before either Monapoli or Spicolis made it to the show.

As I remember, Hud and Phyzz always seemed to talk about Mathis being the stud being readied to take over behind the dish for Halos.org

by eyespy on Sep 4, 2007 1:15 AM PDT up reply actions

exactly
depth chart was Benge/Jose/Josh Paul - Mathis future stud, big gap to any mention of Napoli/Collins/Wilson/Budde ... and then they drafted Hank Conger!

by Rev Halofan on Sep 4, 2007 1:34 AM PDT up reply actions

Wasn't Conger the best bat in the draft?
I'm giving Figgins a big F U. Seattle isn't winning 90. I am not worried.

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by acuda27 on Sep 3, 2007 9:41 PM PDT reply actions

i still won't acknowledge him.
but i guess it was a nice start. i just hope this doesn't instill some kinda false hope in santana from scioscia.
"it's mind-bottling."

How about
I will take False Hope with a short leash...

by Rev Halofan on Sep 3, 2007 9:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree completely. He has a way to go
before I gain any confindence in him. You have to give him the starts though to find that out. Santana was no hero in my book tonight. Mathis is the one that deserves some recognition for tonight's game and all he has done for the team these past several weeks as Halos Heaven folks have pointed out here.

by 44FAN on Sep 3, 2007 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions

very nice game pitched by El Meneo BUT.....
....he DEFINITELY has a mental block on the road. We'll see the same bad ervin on the road alteast this year. I've been around watching baseball too long to know that a baseball pitcher can hit a breakout year from one year to the next.
Final score: Angels 4 Giants 1 Angels 2002 World Series Champions!!!

Tonight at the Stadium
Somehow the LA A of A (or MLB?) managed to turn a blue collar holiday into an Army recruitment tool.  Complete with about 15 new  "recruits" regurgitating their "oath" before the Star Spangled Banner was sung by that pseudo MILF from tv.

Then there was the "Push Up Contest" sponsored by the U.S. Army that saw some fuckin dude do 100 push ups and win...nothing.

All of this on "NASCAR Day" taboot.

Great performance from Ervs though...

We'll be fine.

The interviewed Reggie Willits on the pregame
show and asked him if he was a NASCAR fan. He goes,"no."

The recruitment crisis
All U.S. military propaganda should be banned from professional sporting events, especially baseball games...... And we can kick them out of the high schools while we're at it...

by Jack Frost on Sep 3, 2007 10:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Brilliant
No matter what the topic, each one of your posts is stupider than the last.  Well done.
Bring back Al Wisk!!!

Good rebuttal

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Sep 3, 2007 11:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know about you "Sixtyminuteman"
but I go to Angel Stadium to watch the Angels and see a baseball game...Not to be exposed to recruitment propaganda for the U.S. military...

but I guess you think that's stupid....

So, why do you go to Angel Stadium, to sing God Bless America?

by Jack Frost on Sep 3, 2007 11:32 PM PDT up reply actions

What we ought to do is ban the US military
People who get recruited by the military are a bunch of stupid morons who don't realize that bullets and bombs kill people.  Why else would anyone agree to sign up unless they had the IQ of rosin bag?

After all, the proportion of minorities in the military is significantly higher than the civilian population and since we know that minorities are dumber, it's obvious that the military is suckering them into becoming canon fodder.

"Hi... my name is Jack Frost, and I've never ventured more than 10 feet from my ivory tower where only people who think like I do live."

and people wonder why
Halos Heaven does not have OT threads on politics, evolution, Bay City Rollers, et cetera...

by Rev Halofan on Sep 3, 2007 11:17 PM PDT reply actions

Because the reanimated corpse
of Joseph McCarthy watches with a hawk-eye over our proud community, ready to sweep us away to the great Guantanamo in the sky if we speak out of line about THE ADMINISTRATION?

To sum up:

Jack Frost: Does not like recruitment ceremonies at his baseball games.

Other people: Do not mind recruitment ceremonies at their baseball games.

Good game, good game, good game.  Everyone shake hands.

Last Sunday I went to the big A
Before the recruitment ceremony showed up, it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles.

Just to echo CKOD, you've got a broad range of political and social views here.  Some of us, like Justin Speier, have even served in the military or come from military families.  You may be aware that Orange County is a predominately Republican area. Criticizing the military won't win you unanimous praise in this venue.
