Glaus For Rolen?
MLBTraderumors.com has announced, per Ken Rosenthal, that the Blue Jays and Cardinals have swapped 3B Scott Rolen and none other than our very own ex-Angel Troy Glaus.
This seems, at least offensively, to be a steal for the Cards. Rolen at his offensive peak of the last 3 years was Glaus' average over the last 3 years. Defense, on the other hand, is a different story...
Note: Rosenthal's story on foxsports.com says the deal is not done and still is pending physicals for both players.

This seems kind of dumb for Toronto
Of the two Glaus has at least played 150+ games in one of the last three seasons. Rolen has been pretty brittle the last few years, and playing on Skydome turf is not a formula that promises to change this trend.
Defensively Rolen is superior to Glaus, but the gap has closed of late, and again, turf is a different experience from grass.
Finally, there's the always looming NL to AL transfer. Glaus didn't even break a stride going from Arizona to Skydome, but will Rolen be able to do the same thing?
Toronto's getting shorted pretty hardcore if they do this.

after glaus was injured last year...
.220 / .333 / .384 ,
which probably scares the blue jays.
it will be interesting to see rolen go from feuding with tony "i'm a f'n genius just ask me" larussa to playing for mad man gibbons. i agree with thejd this has the makings of a classic lose-lose trade, but i think the cards come out the winner here.

On another note
This stadium allows up close and personal viewing like no other park. If you can, get tickets behind home plate even in the "grandstand" section behind the plate do it!
This is the most beautiful park in my opinion. It's set within a City park. If you are lucky to get tickets anywhere between 1st and 3rd base on the lower level, you will never enjoy a game more.
The proximity to the players is less than 50 feet. You can really see the talent. Here is where I saw Howie for the first time and looking at him hit from 30 feet away, one knew this was a guy who was a special talent.
Anyway it beats talking about yesterday's news - #25 or glut-emus as my daughter calls him (the strike out king) and Rolen ready for the glue factory.
Enjoy!
I suggest buying the tickets from the Rockies web-site. They sent me a brochure and thus a reminder.

Angel sightings
Then just a few days ago I saw G.A. at lunch in Costa Mesa. He kept a low profile and looked in great shape.
It's great to see our boys this time of year!

This also from St. Louis Post Dispatch on the deal
In addition to guaranteeing him a suite on the road (according to a couple reports), Glaus' contract includes an interesting clause: The team is on the hook for some equestrian expenses. Glaus' wife competes in equestrian events. The two live in Florida's horse country. And, as part of his contract originally signed with Arizona, the team is required to cover some equestrian expenses for Glaus' wife -- $250,000 a year, or $1 million total over the original length of the contract.
