Good Stuff from Mike DiGiovanna
The proprietor of MLB Trade Rumors interviewed Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times, who answered questions about Paul Konerko, Frankie Rodriguez, and Ervin Santana . . .
DiGiovanna: New GM Tony Reagins does not seem at all motivated to secure Rodriguez to a long-term deal, and since the two sides were unable to come to terms on a 2008 contract before exchanging arbitration figures last week--Rodriguez wants $12.5 million; the Angels offered $10 million--that's an indication that they are still far apart on a multiyear deal . . . .

I fully agree/expect KRod to go
Of course, a 1st round draft pick wouldn't be bad either.

Somehow, I don't trust
I don't think short relief is what the Angels have in mind for Ervin Santana. I believe there is a good chance he turns into the ACE he was originally thought to be.
Sure, we have six starting pitchers going into spring training. What are the odds that one of the six will have some kind of ache or injury on opening day? What are the odds that, with Garland earning $12MM this season, the Angels extend his contract @$13-15+MM per year going forward? IF Santana were traded, I would be tempted to bet LARGE that it would be for nothing less than a huge star to a team looking for a premium starting pitcher, not a short reliever.
"...recitations of conjecture."

Since we're offering media quotes,
I found this article from The Desert Sun scripted from an "exclusive" phone conversation with Mike Scioscia. I think this quote strengthens my contention that Santana isn't going anywhere soon:
"We really have what a lot of teams are trying to get, and that's deep pitching," Scioscia said. "So for us to give that up, it would have to be a deal that puts us so far ahead in other areas, and I just don't see that happening right now."
I don't know when or if they're gonna trade Frankie, but I agree that this is probably his last year in Anaheim. If you add them up, it's hard to envision all the escalating salaries.
This is the first mention I've seen of SANDOVAL.
"These guys are legit prospects, and I'm sure that they're going to be contributing here if not right when the season begins, then sometime this year," Scioscia said.
I monitored a few of the games played by Freddy Sandoval during the Mexican Winter Leagues. Although he has played mostly at 3B in the minors, he was playing 2B for the Venados de Mazatlan.
A switch hitting 3Bman who's doing OK in the mnors. He seems to have a little speed and a little pop.
As of this moment, we have only 39 names on the 40-man roster.
MLB.com's Lyle Spencer says
"As of now," Angels general manager Tony Reagins said, "there is no activity [in the negotiations]. Our [arbitration] date is set if nothing happens."
Lyle Spencer probably didn't consult with DiGiovanna before writing his article:
