What would you do?
A few days ago I posted the scenario of Brandon Inge at 3B, and was brutally rebuffed, if you were GM for a day, what would you do? Re-sign Frankie? Make a trade to solidify our holes at SS, or3B, or none of the above? Waiting for your responses fellow halo brothers & sisters. What would you do? P.S.

And...
Who 'd have thunk?
what i'd do...
2)do anything and everything to keep kotch at first. he's gonna be bomb.
3)do anything and everything to keep howie at second. he's gonna be bomb.
4)start izzy at short. solid bat, solid glove, easy decision.
5)start figgy at third. how can you not love the guy? he does whatever is asked of him and he has the ability to continue doing that for a few more years.
6)rotate garett and vlad in the dh spot. torii and jr. can play in the field everyday. whenever anyone in the lineup needs a rest, either dh or start juan in the of.
7)lackey, escobar, weaver, garland, saunders.
8)figure out some sort of trade that would involve krod, santana, and/or willits to upgrade us behind the plate or in the power category.
9)lets say no upgrades are possible with a trade...oliver, santana, mosely, shields, speier, and krod make up a decent bullpen.
figgy
howie
kotch
vlad
torii
garret
gary
napoli
izzy
if the injury bug hits the rotation, we have santana. speier, shields, krod still ain't bad, as much as i think krod is overrated (and not worth 12 million).
like the rev says, "we have, however, improved a 94 win team...so forget about the "holes."
What you'd do.....
For starters, I'd stay far away from Brandon Inge
Damn, for a minute there I thought I was talking about Dallas MacP.
Busy Day
I am fine with the Garland trade if I could work these trades......
I would have tried to work out a trade with the Reds involving K-Rod and, and E. Aybar in hopes the new manager D. Baker would push for K-Rod. Not to hard to imagine D. Baker not wanting to have Frankie. You know Dusty hasn't forgotten the series in 02, and what Frankie did to his Giants.
I would have asked for a player like Hamilton (traded later to Texas for Volquez and Herrera) and another prospect in the trade(Pedro Viola). This trade would have added some left handed pop in the order and helped for the transition of Anderson when we don't resign him. Don't forget the Reds signed Francisco Cordero for 4 years/$46M (2008-11), plus 2012 club option. Real close to the kind of $$$ F-Rod is looking for. They also ended up signing Jeremy Affeldt for 1 year 3 m. I think they would have listened.
Not to get to caught up in the M. Cabrera thing, but I would have made the trade the Tigers did. I would have gladly traded Mathis 1st round, Kendrick 10th round, Willits 7th round , Adenhart 14th round, and a lower level player for M. Cabrera ($11.3 in 08) and D. Willis (later signed for 3 years/$29M). Some may have a problem with this based on the fact that you trading away some young talent. As the GM I would once again put my scouting staff to work trying to secure young talent through the draft. After all no future draft choices would be lost with either deal made. Some forget that the draft is in place to help the Big League team. These trades would help the team for years to come. Remember both players are young Willis 26 and M. Cabrera 25.
I would lock in Figgins at 2nd base leaving M. Izturis, B. Wood, and E. Aybar (if not included in the trade to the Reds) to fight for the SS job. I would buy J. Rivera a 1B glove and have him learn the position in hopes he could fill in at the position when Kotch goes on his vacation (DL) still using him as an option in the OF along with Josh Hamilton.
The Hunter deal would have been something I passed on because of the other deals made. The money saved by not signing him or F-Rod ($28+M for 2008) would now be used to pay Willis and Cabrera for 2008 ($18.3 M). Saving $10M in 2008 that can be used to get Willis and Cabrera locked up to long term deals.
These are the things I would have done with my busy day as a GM. Leaving my roster with
Figgins - 2B .330/.393/.432
Kotch - 1B .296/.372/.467
Vlad - RF .324/.403/.547
Cabrera - 3B .320/.401/.565
Anderson - DH .297/.336/.492
GMJ - CF .252/.323/.419
Hamilton LF .292/.368/.554/ or Rivera
Nap - C .247/.351/.443
Izturis - SS .289/.349/.405 or Wood
Starting Pitchers
Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, Garland, Willis,
BullPen
Oliver, Saunders, Bootcheck, Speier, Santana, Shields
Bench
Morales,Wilson,Haynes
Of course this is just a personal view and I will once again be rooting for the Angels from game 1 through game 162 and on, but I do think these things would have set the team up to be a serious World Series contender for years to come.
