Rock Bottom

(This was taken from a Bill Simmons "Sportsbag" article, with my response after his conclusion)

Q: Of all of the articles that I have read over the past few years, why haven't we read a mention of the Mike Scioscia Playoff Face against Boston? Every time he is on camera he looks like a cross between a small child who is terrified to look under his bed and a man who ate a really bad burrito with no bathroom in sight.
-- Art, Portland

"Mike ... Mike are you OK? Why is your face frozen that way? We need a medic over here!"

SG: As a Red Sox fan who normally stresses out in October, it has been an absolute pleasure to compete three times in the past five years against a team that tries ridiculous suicide squeezes in key moments; keeps innings alive with dumb errors; brings in its "I can only get three outs and that's it and I thought we just spent 162 games establishing this" closer in the eighth inning; careens around the basepaths like they should be holding a bottle of Jack Daniels; puts guys on base to pitch to the greatest postseason hitter ever (Manny Ramirez) with the game on the line; gets so tight in the dugout that it looks like they're watching a UFO land and everything else. I'd just like to thank you, Mike Scioscia. It has been a pleasure and a privilege.

                                                                  WOW!!!!

Initially, I was offended; however, this is an appropriate summary of our team, and for better or for worse, I am a fan. Kind of like having a beer guzzlin', pot smokin' , 'shroom droppin', always cussin',  shit talkin', catfightin', tattoeed above the tailbone havin', erotic zone pierced lady who engages in great conversation, install crown molding, read Theoretical Ethics publishings for fun, cook a variance of ethnic dishes, play the drums, breakdance, do Calculus, and make sweet love. Yet and still, I can't take her to mom (aka the World Series) unless she tones down her act!

You know what I'm sayin'?

PS

In layman’s terms, even though the Angels can be a pain in the ass, they still have a quality that I love, and if they tweak some things a little, they will win it all.

A look I like to call:

Increducondisgustifused.

Incredulous. Confused. Disgusted. All at the same time. No one can pull that look like Scioscia. No one.

As for the post, I agree. I’m not quite sure what just happened there.

I’d like to work “indignant” in there somehow, but I’m not sure I can make that word any longer without converting it to German.

Bill Simmons

the same classy guy that, months after Super Bowl XLII, was still whining about the invisible holding calls on the Giants’ offensive line on the Manning-Tyree play.

He’s a little bitch when things don’t go his way, and a gloat-whore when they do. Just like all of Boston…only as a fan of the Giants, I get to hang that loss on him for the rest of my life like the little shit-for-brains know-nothing that he is.

Hey Bro...

where do you find chicks like that???

BTW: The Angels division clinching celebrations looks absolutely ridiculous right about now ! As if they knew that would be it.

When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

Simmons is the man

He is definitely a pioneer in the industry….reporting from a fan’s perspective, being in tune and reporting on fantasy sports about 10 years earlier than anyone, etc. Certainly someone like him would have come by sooner or later in sports world thanks to the internet, but he was a pioneer in what he does. Is part of ESPN’s east coast bias also well-enforced in his articles? Of course, he’s a Boston Fan. Nonetheless, Boston has been in the news so much because they have won so much this decade. If Boston teams were bad like say Seattle teams, publicity would be less.
Nonetheless, Simmons does do a fair share of West Coast stories since he lives in LA.

If the Angels want more Publicity, how about beating the Red Sox for a change? 2002 and even 2005 are a long time ago.

I love LAC.

Ladies and gentleman....Bill Simmons!!!!!

Boston has won so much in what?

Football? The Patriots don’t play in Boston.

Basketball? They’ve had one good year by essentially establishing a Yankees plan for success. Buy Buy Buy. If they have one or two more good years in a row, establishing some consistency, then maybe you can call them good again. But they were bad for a while before last year.

Baseball? They won twice this decade, ending an 88-year drought (you call it a curse, I call it an excuse) quickly becoming the enigma they hated most—-the Yankees— by acting like they had always been there.

Hockey? Are you kidding me? The Boston Bruins are a joke.

College? BC nor BU nor Harvard are relevant in any college sports. BC for a little bit last year in college football last year, but they quickly choked to FSU and VTech.

No Boston has not always won in everything ever. Yes the job of a reporter is one of objectivity. No Bill Simmons is not objective. Yes I’m glad Simmons is not oblivious to the town he lives in because he’ll casually throw in a reference to an LA/greater LA squad every now and then. But ESPN is based in Bristol, Connecticut, and its fairly common knowledge that they exhibit a pretty frequent east coast bias, and more recently ESPN has gone down on the collective genitalia/lack thereof of Boston, and it is growing tiresome. You would never see the opposite of Bill Simmons (a LA guy through and through) at ESPN, and that’s what’s really angering.

Simmons isn’t a bad writer, but to call him a pioneer because he focuses on region of the country while working for the national sports media is really stretching it.

And I don’t want ESPN’s publicity. Nor do I think many Angels fans either. We don’t really need acceptance from a place in Connecticut. Besides, they’ve been sleeping with Boston for so long who knows what they have now.

Bill Simmons is a loser. Lame old redundant column.

How is that movie script coming Bill? Couldn’t hack TV Bill?

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
