A Poem for our Discontent
My girlfriend is in a poetry class. She had to write a poem the day after our loss to the Red Sox for class in iambic pentameter. So she wrote about the Angels. Sure, its melodramatic but it kinda heartbreaking too. I thought I would share with you all.
Our Angels, lovely Angels, lost. They lost.
Their red helmets, their white uniforms
Disgraced; rally monkey no use at all
And Vlad, he looked so miserable, yes,
As he can, the slinging slugging monster
Without a strike zone, cups of water 'tween
His hands akin to thimbles. All is lost.
The waitress, she says, "Oh, honey, oh dear."
And that displaced New England crowd insists
On screaming. Thus, we leave, door swinging shut,
Our hearts so broken, all we can do is
Attempt to clean the cigarette smell out
Our clothing and wander aimless, suff'ring.
My boy, he puts his arm, so heavy, limp,
So sad, around my pale skinny shoulders.
We walk as if we are the survivors
Of some horrendous happening beyond
Comprehension for any passerby.

Mine would have gone somethin like this......
It was an october night, I sat at a bar,
Hoping my Angels would erase but this scar,
This scar that has followed me year after year
Leaving me heavy hearted alone with my beer.
Thinking then to myself, okay maybe next year.
Dam you Boston players, dam you Boston fans
One day we will beat you, I know that we can.
And when that day comes, so happy I’ll be
My Angels will win it, and not just for me.
And this is just writing off the top of my head without analysing how to make it better.

As if one bad poem wasn't enough,

Acids stain you
Drugs cause cramp
Guns aren’t lawful
Nooses give
Gas smells awful

Mine
Heros fallen, fields drawn dark and silent.
Lost dreams. An end that comes too violent.
Too many cheers unspent from ’midst the crowd.
A future lost. A ring, now not allowed.
What good be bats of May, June, and July
if silence falls when Autumn leaves do die?
Why fill our Spring with hope, and Summer joy,
yet in October sleep, our trust destroy?
Winter beckons yet again our despair.
We march t’ward grief with heads bowed in prayer
that may next year deeds not be so wasted
when chance permits triumph to be tasted.
Temptation smiles at foolish devotees,
beckons us to mend our rent love for thee,
to forget the crimson stains of failure,
and mask them once more with newfound ardor.
We’ll restore our fandom, we both know well.
Ignore the past, all doubts we shall dispel.
Adorn the red, and restore the swagger,
when October comes, you will be Panther!

Mine:
I hate the fucking red sox,
Oh, I hate the fucking red sox.
The red sox suck,
Oh yes they do,
Youkalis shoud get hit by a truck,
as his face looks like poo.
I hate the fucking red sox,
And their obnoxious fans too,
I hope the Rays send them to kick rocks,
And next year we pound them through and through.

I like this one.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
