Jered Weaver: TRADE BAIT?
Jered Weaver turned 26 in October. 2009 will be his last season before salary arbitration. He had 152 strikeouts in 177 Innings Pitched in 2008 with only 54 BB.
He would be the ace on at least 5 Major League teams and the strong #2 starter on another 10. Despite some struggles, he appears to be maturing in the right direction.
He could really bring in something nice in a trade. But we would be losing a big piece of the future by dealing him. It would be nice to have some power in our lineup, power a Weaver trade would most certainly bring. But you can never have toomuch pitching. Is Jered Weaver TRADE BAIT?

It depends....
If we acquire Sabathia and/or Peavy, then I’d say 1 of Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, or Jered Weaver becomes expendable. We could use one of those three pitchers to acquire a bat to complement or replace Tex.

For Peavey but not C.C.
I have this premonition that C.C. is another Colon waiting to happen.

Peavy's road numbers suck and he labors in the NL
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
great position we are in
it seems like with each post like this there is a youngster we would love to keep (or most of us would anyway) but they are good enough to maybe attract an even more proven talent. as for WTY, like Howie, if it’s a deal you can’t refuse, go for it.
only in a deal for peavy
If the Red Sox and Dodgers play for the World Series, I will not watch a single minute of a single game.
The only comment I have here
is the observation that the words “Jared Weaver” and “maturing” were used together in the same context. That, in and of itself, is an amazing development.
Francisco Rodriguez: 2006 to Present: 149 saves. 5 Panthers. As fabulous as Pride, Romero, Gregg, Budde and Dino Ebel combined.
He's cheap, young and effective. A solid #3 guy for most teams.
Keep him unless the players in return are outstanding and we have a comprable replacement in the rotation.
Big Tex
I am new to this site and a die hard Halos fan. Great to find the site. I would like to know though, what do you all think the odds are that Tex will re-sign with the Halos? I say that there is no way that he is going to sign with the Angels. I think that he is just too much of an East Coast guy. Thoughts? I hope to hell that I am wrong though.

trade him
for another pitcher with less emotion and a better haircut. One or both will be his undoing.
Q: What's the difference between A-Rod and Madonna? A: Madonna had a couple hits last October...
The haircut is to hide the ears,
but the ears are part of his deceptive delivery. Sometimes they say a pitcher is all arms and legs flying at you; Weaver’s all arms, legs, and ears.

Weaver is a whiner.....
Just like his brother, Dream Weaver. Saunders had a child and pitched his turn. Saunders had a kidney stone and pitched the day after. Black Magic is lights out and all but our future Ace.
Weaver cut his fingy on a staple and missed 2 starts.
If we can get a bat, (and ONLY if) I say go for the trade – but not the other two guys.

He cut himself before the playoffs
Why not let it heal we were leading the division by 50 games or something. How did he do in the playoffs? Oh yeah he was nails.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
He's Almost There
I expect Jered to turn the corner next season or the one after to become a frontline starter. Maybe not an ace, but an easy 1 or 2 for any team in the bigs by then. Keep him around. It’s depth that kept the Angels as one of the best-throwing teams around, and it’s depth that will keep them there.

The only Angels pitcher to get a win in the postseason the last two years. Nuff said
Ughhh lets trade him cause hes a" whiner". . . Les trade him cuz his brother. . Yah huh huh. . . . his haircut . . .
Can We please stick with things that actually matter?
Weaver is a talented player who wants to win. Who actually has won in the postseason.
Seems to me most of these posts are about a desire to win in the postseason.
Well then it only makes sense to him.
Even for Peavy.

His hair cut matters...
…it’s indicative of a greater malaise. Goddamn hippy.

RE: HH glossary
rec’d – recommended. click on the “actions” button underneath a post, and the 2nd option will read “Rec”. when one “rec’s” a post, it turns green, so as to attract the eye of other readers to said post, in hopes that they will read it, as it has been regarded as important, humorous, or just fantastic.
XD – a variation on the classic “:)” smiley face. also a variation on the “=D” smiley face. the “XD” smiley symbolizes a laughing person – eyes closed, mouth open. it is normally used when the reader (or commenter) is expressing their laughter at the post they are responding to.
Kotch would've had that.

I like Weaver
Though he as regressed a little bit in each of the last 2 seasons after that amazing 2006 campaign. That worries me a little but I’m not going to say that is a reason to trade him because he’s still a solid pitcher and I like what he brings to the table. As with Howie Kendrick, I think we should consider trading him for the right deal, as others have said. We shouldn’t shop him just to get rid of him.

Keep him at least til mid-year
If Escobar comes roaring back, and we already have a suitable #5 pitcher via trade (or a call-up like Adenhart or Green actually pans out) we will have some trade bait mid-season. That will come in handy if we need another big gun for hire like Tex. Unless of course Tex signs with us. Then, this whole post is moot.

I would love to have Adrian Gonzalez
He really goes under the radar playing in SD and Petco. He would be a great fit. I actually believe he could put up better offensive numbers than Tex if he got out of Petco. It will take more than Weaver to get him though.
Weaver, Kendry And HGH for Adrian Gonzales
No doubt his numbers would skyrocket away from Petco

Good luck
convincing the Padres to give him up. They are rebuilding and he is part of the future. Apparently Peavy is not.

so weaver, kendry, HGH, and aybar for adrian gonzales and peavy
Mr Moreno,
Please re-sign Tex.

lmao
That’s a joke, right? I don’t mean to offend but that is ridiculous. There is no way the Padres do that. As an Angel fan though I’d pull the trigger on that in a heartbeat.
