Lee Thomas was primarily a First-Baseman for the 1961-64 Angels, although he could be found in any outfield position on a semi-regular basis, as the young expansion team was still discovering itself.

Thomas earned the nickname "Mad Dog"

because of his temper. Thomas was playing golf with a sportswriter one day in 1961 when he became angered over a poor shot and hurled his driver with such force it tore through a chain-link fence. Thomas was soon joined by another Thomas, outfielder George, acquired from Detroit, and they formed a power package that came to be called T N T. Unfortunately, George’s career ended early. He had trouble throwing. Twice in one season he lost his grip and threw the ball behind him.
