More Disrespect from ESPN

On the way to work this morning, Colin Cowheard (sp?) of ESPN Radio led off his show with something like this:

There has never been a more insignificant 12-inning playoff game in history. The Angels are going down in flames because Lester does not lose in Boston. It was a "fun little" game, but it is over tonight.

Here's hoping that we can shut that stuff up right away. I know I will be listening the same time tomorrow to see what he has to say after we win.

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

Also this:

All due respect, I can’t fathom what Caray meant by that. It was almost exactly the Kent Hrbek play, except it was at second base instead of first base, and instead of Hrbek pulling Ron Gant off the base, Aybar pushed off Ellsbury. If you watch the replay closely, you’ll see that Ellsbury, while he did overslide, might well have maintained his balance on second base — after all, we’re talking about a world-class athlete here — if Aybar hadn’t given him a few helpful pounds of pressure. I can’t locate the specific rule involved and I know Angels fans are going to scream at me about this, but I do believe that if the umpire had perfect knowledge of what happened at second base, Ellsbury would have been safe.

Rob Neyer wrote that on his blog at ESPN.com. If you have Insider access, go scream at him as he suggests in the comment section. Even Boston fans are agreeing that Ellsbury should have been out (crazy, right?).

And that in no way was similar to the Ron Gant play.

Aybar continued his tag on Ellsbury just in case he did come off the bag, and good thing he did.

Hooters anyone?

WORLD CLASS ATHLETE?!

GAH… do these people have any effing brain cells AT ALL?!

man, what a bunch of egotistical, arrogant, self-righteous dicks.

Kotch would've had that.

Ellsbury started his slide 18 inches in front of the bag - he's lucky he didn't break his goddamn ankle!

…let alone “overslide” and have Aybar prevent him from performing a gold medal-winning balance beam routine that Neyer was eagerly awaiting.

If Neyer was correct, why didn't Ellsbury or Francona argue in the least?

I guess they don’t know the rules either. Sure, THAT makes sense.

Most of these knuckleheads are just trying to rile the hardcore fans – whether what they write is true, false, or somewhere in between.

I'm surprised by Neyer's comments on this.

I know he doesn’t have many fans around here, but I actually enjoy his writing and have found that his opinions, whether I agree with a particular one or not, are usually well reasoned. This, however, is pure nonsense. I posted this in the comment section under his blog:

"Rob,

Angel fan here who enjoys your columns and the blog. I find that your opinions are usually well reasoned and even if I disagree with something, I understand how you came to your conclusion. In fact, your work is really the only reason I pay for Insider service.

That being said, your thought that the Aybar play is in anyway similar to the Hrbek play is completely is absurd and in no way rationally reasoned. Ellsbury’s late slide and momentum clearly is the reason he came off the base. To so matter of factly state “after Erick Aybar pushed Jacoby Ellsbury off second base” does a disservice to your reputation. It seems you would only state such a thing to draw the ire of Angel fans, escalating the notion that none of us are fans of yours.

I suggest you take another look at the play, Ellsbury’s and Francona’s non-reaction and re-evaluate your thoughts on this in another, better reasoned blog entry."

Good points

But I still think the main thing is: THE SOX FANS AGREE WITH US!

I’m not sure if you people realize that the world might be ending. Sox fans ALWAYS play up every perceived slight or injustice.

The fact that several of them disagree with Rob publicly about that play tells me all I need to know.

wow

not even trying to conceal his bias

Let the "homers" say whatever they want...

beating the Sux will be all the Halos will need to counter these biased blowholes. That and ScoreBoard.

As for the tag, just look at this legs and feet and you can clearly see that it was all on his momentum taking his balance away and pulling himself off the bag.

When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

I hate when 'Herd has Sosh on his show.

He’s such a suck-up before the Halos play Boston during the season and before he interviews Sosh before the playoffs, saying how good the Angels are – yadda, yadda, yadda.

THEN after Boston beats the Angels in the playoffs, he’s all over the Sox – They were so much the better team, No one can play with them …

He’s the same way with USC. He claims he has no East-coast bias because he’s from the West Coast, but he’s a front-running homer.

Just to make a point, he still refuses to say that the NY Giants won the Super Bowl fair and square. He makes excuses for the Pats – Oh Tom Brady was hurt, they didn’t have their A-game, etc.

"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"

Cowherd is an idiot

There are many many people who feel that way. It’s people like him that make a lot of sports radio unlistenable – it’s just one guy touting his opinion as if it’s gospel.

I really enjoy when he has an expert on the show, and makes some ridiculous claim like “Bobby Knight was a bad coach” (true story, he said that) and the expert rips him a new one on his own show. Fortunately that doesn’t happen enough to entice me to actually listen to the show.

i like cowherd

but he focuses only on one variable and it usually is the most interesting for most controversial, it gets people to listen and its funny when your team is not the victim but he is hardy the prophetic voice he thinks he is.

I think it's been proven time and time again...

that Cowherd is a tool.

ummm

News for ya, I don’t think Cowherd believes half the shit he says. He’s just trying to get listeners riled up.
