CC Sabathia?
The topic of CC Sabathia came up in the Judy Garland thread. He's long been rumored to be someone that we're going to go after, but I have concerns.
First, I think we need to address our offensive problem. All spare change the organization has should go to Mark Teixeira and signing/developing hitters in his image.
Second, and more to the point of this post, I'm worried CC Sabathia is due to break down. I could very well be wrong, as I'm only basing this on the number of innings he's pitched the last two years versus the rest of his career.
Innings Pitched by CC:
2001 – 180
2002 – 210
2003 - 197
2004 – 188
2005 – 196
2006 – 192
2007 – 241
2008 – 253
Is he an overworked rental ready to break down? Anyone have some deeper thoughts on this?

Hard to Say, But They Should Pass
I think Sabathia is a workhorse who will be able to deliver many more innings, but I don’t think it’s a wise investment for a team withs o much good pitching at so many levels. It’s not worth the risk. Go with Tex.
While I agree with you that the offensive issues need to be addressed...
I wholeheartedly support any effort to bring CC to LA of A. I understand the concerns surrounding the number of innings he throws, but I believe this would be handled a lot more efficiently under Scioscia and Butch. We all know how this organization nurses pitchers, and CC would be no exception. But I just could not imagine how sick it would be to have CC, Lackey, and Santana as our 1-3. You’d also have the best 4 and 5 in the game in Saunders and Weaver.
No doubt he will command a big paycheck, and the Teixeira issue still needs to be dealt with, but a guy can dream.
White trashin' the 909
We need a few guys
with a killer instinct. An Erstad type presence……….The team as a whole could use some of that. If the talent returns then they have to learn how to bury teams. I think 62 saves says a lot.
Stay on the damn bag!!
Fat pitchers that are ex Indians do not work out.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
They work for one year maybe?

The one thing
that keeps me coming back to Sabathia is the fact he pitched 4 times in 12 days. That to me is either a pre cursor to his demise orrr he is solid. And it shows he is a gamer, he pitched without no worries of his body or his money to try to get the brew crew to the playoffs. The problem I do not like about him is his track record in the playoffs is not so good and we do not need n e more guyd with a bad playoff track record, but I say go after him but in the the crankees will get him.
"Throw some CHED!"
Except that assumes
that the Yankees operate under the same budget constraints other teams do. With Pavano, Mussina, Giambi, Abreu, etc. all coming off the payroll, I would not be surprised to see them sign Tex AND CC. It will piss me off to no end, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
Wouldn't surprise me either
No need to sign CC. Over the years it seems that we have put too much emphasis on the pitching will neglecting the offense at all levels. That needs to change.
And it's not like our pitching isn't good enough.
Pitching-wise, I’d focus more on the bullpen and the starting rotation right now. Maybe add Colorado free agent Fuentes.
I like Fuentes
I just worry that he may end up costing too much and take away money that should be used for Tex. With F-rod’s crazy contract demands it seems that Fuentes will have more suitors which can drive up his prize to like 3 years 30 million or more.
Supposedly
the yanks want to sign two out of CC, Burnett, and Lowe and then Tex is after that so maybe if we quickly sign Tex we take him off their hands which would be beautiful.

Goodbye Boston
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
I recently read
some of the rules regarding FA, and (depending on the volume of free agents) any team can only sign 2 type A/B free agents. I hould have bookmarked the site thate referenced and explained it, because it was in regards to this exact thing. Some Yankee fan spouting off about how they were going to sign 5 FA (including Vlad iirc). The rule was designed to keep teams like form the Yankees from cornering the market. If there are a higher number of FA available, then number a team can sign goes up proportionally.

I do not believe that is true
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
Sabathia is good
Maybe the best in MLB, certainly top 5. He’s going to get at LEAST what Zito got in years and dollars and probably close to what Santana got. So that’s what, 6 – 8 years, $120 – $175 million?
I think he’ll be great for awhile, but sometime in there, chances are that he’ll break down. It’s what pitchers do.
So if you’re going to spend that much money, I’d rather do it on a guy who’s going to play everyday and has much less of a chance to break down (cough Teixeira *cough*).

Sounds familiar
I do believe Sabathia would probably have a good year for us but for how long. This situation sounds a lot like Bartolo’s. He was highly sought after and after joining our team he gave us 1 good year, 1 great year and 2 disappointing years. So, my concern is with his prior heavy work load signing Sabathia could be Bartolo part deux. With that in mind I cast a nay vote.

Bartolo Colon Redux
or is it “reflux?”
CC No-No!
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?

Rogers Hornsby
One of his recent interviews
suggested that he would take less money (perhaps) to play on the west coast. It also mentioned that he wanted to stay in the NL, Padres and Giants are not competitive, so I would say the Dodgers might have a shot. Just my 2cents.
