Uggla Revisited
I know we've hit the Dan Uggla idea before, but i don't remember discussing it in the context of trading for him, then shifting him to left field. hear me out...
Uggla was pretty bad at second base this year (.981 FP), but his bat obviously made up for it: .260/.360/.514 (at DOLPHIN STADIUM!!!). If we could acquire him for, say, Erick Aybar/Jered Weaver and a prospect, we could stick him in left, let him take over for GA and watch him rip up the AL West. That would enable us to hold onto Wood and Kendrick, while still adding a solid, powerful bat.
He'd be a solid Plan B if we missed out on Teixeira or Adam Dunn, and I would like to see us go after him even when we get Teixeira (notice I said "when"). His defense may be pretty bad in the infield, but he might be fairly solid out in LF (ala Ryan Braun).
Thoughts?

wouldn't matter
Dolphin Stadium suppresses stats more than Angel Stadium. according to ESPN, Angel Stadium’s park factor is at 1.017 (barely favoring hitter), while Dolphin Stadium is at .954 (favoring pitcher).
but since you asked, his 2008 road stats were: .296/.387/.573 with 17 of his 32 homers.
Kotch would've had that.

scary, isn't it?
although, i thought Dolphin Stadium was worse than it actually is.
Kotch would've had that.

Well, I will give you one thing...
…you have managed to make the thought of Kendry Morales in Left Field a palatable idea.
that's what people said about Ryan Braun too
check his stats.
and i suggested K-Mo in right, not left.
Kotch would've had that.

Braun...
…he of the twisted ribcage muscle from playing positions in the pros he never played in his life. Check.
so let's cherry-pick a freak injury
instead of looking at his 149 games in left field WITHOUT an error in 2008. wonderful.
Kotch would've had that.

aaaaaaaand
it’s all for naught, anyway.
“What about Dan Uggla and his $5 million projection? Juan Rodriguez was assured again Monday night — as I have been recently — that the Marlins have made it clear Uggla stays into next season.” - LINK TO STORY
Kotch would've had that.
Also keep in mind...
Uggla plays in the weak NL East. Granted the NL East is a much better division than the NL West put I’d rank the NL East pitching staffs as some in the worst in the league. The Mets, Phillies, Atlanta, and Washington don’t exactly have top tier pitching staffs.
I told everyone here last year that Miguel Cabrera’s numbers would go down a bit because he was moving from the NL to the AL and mostly everyone scoffed. I also said HK would breakout and hit like .340 but I was definitely right about Cabrera’s numbers. His OPS went down 80 points on what was already considered a slightly sub-par 07.
not a bad idea
but i think mike would prolly split the time with izturis and wood.
i don’t think he has full confidence in wood yet.
I would never give up Weaver for a player of his caliber.
He’s not an outfielder! Are you going to be happy to lose a quality arm every time Uggla blows one in left? or second?
Halos Heaven is way to enamored with guys that can hit 20-30 jacks.
ala Ryan Braun, now that is a name that we could use. He still has upside.

That's true.
But a lot of people lost confidence in Weaver.
I just think he had a bad season and I’m pretty sure hes going to rebound.
As long as he doesnt become his big brother Jeff, we’re good =D
if Weaver is in
then who replaces him in the rotation? we still need a 5th.
you've got to figure that we'll sign at least one pitcher this offseason
it’s what we do.
Kotch would've had that.

which one
CC is the only 1 worth the high price. the others seem to have baggage. Burnett underperformed during his tenure with the Bluejays and i think he’s had major arm trouble. Dempster first yr in the rotation. Lowe doesn’t seem worth what he might get.
No freakin way
Weaver and Aybar is way too much for him. Marlins just traded Willingham and Olsen for a light hitting second baseman and two guys in the low minors.
Weaver is worth more than Uggla. Aybar straight up would be a fair trade (considering contract and defensive ability) if the Marlins want to move Hanley to another position.
But Uggla would be
a nice pickup if we can get him at Marlin firesale prices. Let’s just not trade players who would open up holes at other positions.

i didn't mean Weaver and Aybar
i meant Weaver OR Aybar, plus a prospect.
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Nov 11, 2008 3:11 PM PST up reply actions
and Aybar could shift to second base
so Hanley wouldn’t have to move.
Kotch would've had that.

Why don't you just trade for Hanley?
Or to make things really interesting……………….find a way to pry Nick Markakis from Baltimore.
i would give my left arm for Hanley
…probably only a foot for Markakis, but you get my point.
those aren’t the players teams will trade.
Kotch would've had that.

hanley
give him a couple more yrs of great numbers and then the Marlins will realize he’s too good for their team.
hahaha
i’d jump all over that if he was even remotely available
Kotch would've had that.
