Yankees Make CC a BIG Offer

And not that it's a bad thing, but we are officially outbid forever on C.C. Sabathia. The New York Yankees have offered 6 years and 140 million  (Johan Santana currently makes 137.5)  to C.C. This would make him the highest paid pitcher ever. We pretty much can consider ourselves out of the running.

C.C. is going to follow that ridiculous amount of money (he'd be foolish not to) and be great for probably a couple years, and then maybe he'll fall victim to the Bartolo syndrome (but C.C. is taller and has always been this large unlike Bartolo, so we'll see).

Apparently the Yanks are also eyeing/sending offers to Burnett and Lowe... which means Peavy is ours for the taking? trading?  Which in the end just leaves more potential money for Tex. I personally for one have never liked that the Yankees can just sign whichever free agent they want, but that's a much larger issue.

Call me cautiously optimistic, but I think we can grab both Peavy and Tex with the pieces falling as they are right now.  And all this seems to be able to be done without too much harm to our spending or our farm system. Here's hoping.

CC

CC and his team did a good job of marketing him. whispering to the media about how he’s and west coast guy. its going to take alot for him to go to the east coast and play. that was smart. now the question is are the Angels/Dodgers really interested in CC? if so, for how much? how much is CC willing to leave on the table to really play on the west coast and how much are the NYY willing to go up?

according to Fangraphs.com (Great site btw)

CC is worth roughly 5.5 wins above replacement level, and with wins going for about 5.5 M apiece, and factoring 10% out for a long term deal, a baseline deal was about 6 years 160 Miliion, so if he stays healthy for the duration of the contract and keeps his established level of dominance (factored for a 4 year period or so, because there is no way he can do what he did this year again) then 140/6 isnt that bad of a bargain

Mr Moreno,
Please re-sign Tex.
Sincerely yours,

What bothers me about CC.....

1) His girth. Is this guy going to be fat and effective like David Wells, or is he another Bartolo?
2) Has he been overworked? 241 IP in 2007, 253 IP in 2008.

Obviously he’d be a great addition to any staff right now, but I wonder how long he can maintain his current effectiveness.

Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

Maybe so with the IP

But… he has never thrown less than 180and for more than 3/4 of his career so far he has been at least right around 200 IP, and from what I understand, he has always been the size he is now, where in Bart’s case, he ballooned.

I saw that his IP numbers are unreasonably high the last two years.

Which does cause initial concern, but for all those years prior it wasn’t like he didn’t pitch a lot of innings. Also, Sosh has a way of not leaving his pitchers out there for tons of innings

Except when they completely implode

Then he just lets them sit out there, hoping the 5 runs they’ve just allowed in 1/3 of an inning will magically disappear…

Good point

I have no argument to that, so I will just sit here and twiddle my thumbs
