SoCal Fire Thread

My Thoughts go out to not only our fellow HALO Fans but the the residents of Yorba Linda and other affected by the fire. May the firefighters contain the fire and no one gets hurt.
EDIT: This is a catch-all Fire Thread, I just went outside my house and saw the ominous golden brown cloud creeping across south central Los Angeles - this is looking like a BIG one.

I used to live....
right across the 57 from the Brea Olinda HS where one of the fires was burning. Also, my son went to Fanning Elementary. Apparently another fire was threatening there as well.
Hope all are well there in N.OC.

The Smoke is strong
it appears these big fires are more and more frequent. I suspect arsonists…..and our “never rains” SoCal forecasts. Hopefully no lives are lost.
Another round of fires…..is it a wonder why our state is broke?

It doesn't help that it's routinely been not just warm
but unseasonably HOT for the entire fall season now. It’s been in the 80s EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. since…mid-September. Not a one day break anywhere.

I don't live anywhere near by, thankfully
(though my area was torched while I was out of the state back in May).
But I just drove up theside of the mountain I live on here, and I could see a massive plume stretching all the way across an expansive portion of the Southern California valley…and an ominous orange glow, but no smoke, over the ridge toward Sylmar.

Hope you guys near Anaheim Hills are OK.
We’re getting the smoke from the Sylmar fire. The smoke is really bad — we had to go out and buy masks.

Im right on the border of La Habra/Whittier/La Mirada. My gf was saying the Brea Mall was evacuated… I can’t believe there’s a fire by the 57 FWY/Lambert. That is too close!

I was out near there today, it was awesome, looked like a nuke got loose.
I was in a 7-Eleven on Brea Cyn. Rd. and this college age girl in line said the fire was God and Mother Nature punishing the people who voted for prop 8.
Driving back to safety in LA on the 10 fwy I could see the huge smoke from the OC area fire beginning to join with the giant smoke from the Sylmar fire and all I could think of was the smoke will block out the sun completely and we are gonna have nuclear winter tomorrow. There is thick smoke hanging in the air around Chavez Ravine near where I live, never seen anything like it before.

Maybe God didn't get that memo..
If he was going to punish people for voting No on 8 you’d think he could come up with better places to torch than Corona/Yorba Linda.

Orange County?
Seems like the “right” place to torch if one is pushing the “God’s punishment for Prop 8” angle.
That or Salt Lake City.

God must not like “fill in the blank”, because of fires in OC.
But we all know God hates all old people. They’re dying in numbers every day.

hey
We are still here. Although a lot of our friends have been evacuated. The Yorba Linda/Corona fire is about one mile away. The Brea fire started about 1/2 mile from our home and has moved to about one mile away. So, thus far we have been very lucky.
Thanks for all your thoughts. Hopefully we can get Mark Texas signed soon.

I can see the flames
but it doesn’t look like its coming my way. Im right where harbor goes over the hill into puente hills/rowland heights. My bro-in-law is out fighting the fires though. Hope everyone is well and the fire get contained soon.
On a completely insignificant note, this can’t be helping our chances to sign Tex. :(

up here in NorCal we had a fair share of the fires this summer......
some that were particulary horrible and had more evacuated residence than I had ever witnessed before…..The firefighters up here kicked ass and I have no doubt they will do the same down there….It was so bad that President Bush himself came up here to scope out the damage afterwards…..(whether you like the guy or not I thought that was awesome, he flew right over my work as he was checking things out) We are still cleaning up…..and because the damage is so bad they have fire crews working to make sure the mudslides are at a minimum once the wet weather really starts…….
Good luck down there….you’re all in my thoughts
Miss you Kotch......Love you Trent

North Yorba LInda is like a damn war zone right now.
If you exit the 57 at Imperial and travel east, once you reach the corner of Bastenchury and Imperial is where you can see how dicey things are. If you continue to travel east on Bastenchury and look to the north it’s devastating. The entire northern rim of Yorba Linda has been burning for almost 24 hours now.
Last night I stood with my wife at the corner of Bastenchury and Fairmont, looking up at the fire, which was raging out of control; it was coming down the hill, seemingly at random, picking off which ever house it pleased. People were evacuated earlier, and people stood helpless watching their fate on the hillside. And we’re talking about a stretch of one of the most exclusive sets of neighborhoods in all of Orange County. Further to the east, Hidden HIlls went up in flames, and at least a dozen homes were destroyed on Big Horn Canyon and Blue Ridge. The fire stretches from west YL all the way out toward Gypsum Canyon.
As of an hour ago the police were still not letting people back into their neighborhoods in east YL; the Gypsum Canyon offramp at the 91 is jammed with cars, waiting to reenter their neighborhoods.
By mid afternoon yesterday the area looked like a war zone, like bombs had dropped on the area. It alternated between eerie twilight and pitch dark. The fire jumped the 91 around noon and burned an apartment complex east of Weir Canyon to the ground. A few streets in Anaheim HIlls, including Morning Star Drive got multiple homes that burned flat.
At daybreak this morning the Register was reporting at least 67 single family dwellings in Yorba Linda were completely gone; however, talking to firefighters on the hillside they think the number will go up as the day goes by.
Carbon Canyon is in flames. The fire is darting in and out throughout the canyon, in fact the fire crossed the 57 yesterday at one point. Everything on Lambert east of the 57 is in danger. If you’re familiar with the neighborhood that has all the Christmas lights in December, which sits between Birch, Lambert, Kraemer and Valencia, the fire is just across the street north of Lambert. Fires range all along Carbon Canyon Blvd, with mobil home parks destroyed along the blvd.
We know many people who went through mandatory evacuation yesterday evening, and nobody knows for sure what’s been lost. Our home is okay, and we’re just trying to help any way we can. Last night we were making 7-11 runs of waters and sodas for cops and fireman who could be seen taking breaks right in the middle of neighborhoods. They’re busting their asses for everyone.
Hopefully by the end of today things will have turned around.

I live in Yorba Linda
and we were told to evacuate yesterday. We turned on the news when we got to the place we are staying at and it turns out that my neighborhood is only a voluntary evacuation zone but since we already evacuated, they won’t let us back in because they want to encourage more people to evacuate. I understand they are doing this for our safety but I can’t helped but be a little pissed off.
