Excuse me while I puke
Dustin Pedroia won the AL MVP thanks to the many "chowd shiteating" loving media members, and ESPN couldn't be happier. One word to describe this, sickening.

I'm amazed how long it took somebody to post this story.
I was’nt about to. Morneau got screwed, as the east coast bias needed to be fed yet once again.

Did you mean Mauer got screwed?
Morneau isn’t even the best player on his team…
Pedroia was a decent choice.

Agree with Morneau
Look at the talent that Pedroia was surrounded by and then look at what Morneau had on his team. Morneau still finished second in the league in RBIs and how he got his team to a one game playoff is beyond me.

I think Morneau had a mark against him for winning the Homerun Derby out from under Hamilton.

morneau should not have been the MVP. top 5 perhaps though
my ballot would look like
1.Mauer
2. Sizemore
3. Pedroia
4. Quentin
5. Morneau
Morneaus defense is actually so bad that it negates a decent portion of his offense, which is mostly skewed because of his high RBI totals
Mr Moreno,
Please re-sign Tex.

guarantees that the adwords
will post crappy ads on the site for another week – again folks, you wanna stroke about how much the chowd shiteaters get national coverage for a piss-ant regional team, fine, but the ad-words know the national media suckathon has spawned a million bandwagoneers outside the garbage-piled Northeast tundra.

How about we refer to...
The Red Sox as Salma Hayek,
The Yankees as Erin Andrews,
and the A’s as Lindsay Soto.
That way we might at least get some decent ads.

No Red Sox fan here
but that lil shit had a good year and stepped it up for his team when things were not good for the BoSox.
His AVG. was 5th overall in MLB
2nd in Runs scored in MLB
Tied for 1st with total hits in MLB
1st in Doubles in MLB
10 in total bases in MLB (2 AL in front of him Hamilton,Huff)
Stole 20 bags caught stealing 1 time
17HR
80+ RBI
Sorry but he had a MVP type year

No he didn't
For God’s sake, Ian Kinsler had better numbers than him in HR’s, SB’s, SLG, OPS. They were virtually tied in OBP and Pedroia’s average wasn’t more than 10 points higher than Kinsler. Keep in mind that Kinsler missed the last month and a half of the season while Pedroia had one of the highest numbers of plate appearances.
This is not to say that Ian Kinsler deserves the MVP, but rather that Pedroia wasn’t even the best player at his position this year, let alone the top player in the AL.

Ian Kinsler.......
I think Kinsler had a good year as well, but he did not play the whole season and that does effect the voting as well.
With that said though it does not make Pedroia’s year less. He played day in and day out. If he would have missed the last month and a half like Kinsler the BoSox would not have been in the playoffs. Texas was a .500 team with Kinsler healthy.
By the way Kinsler was on pace to have something like 680 AB’s so he was raking up AB’s as well. In fact he avg more AB’s per game then Pedroia. Can’t penalize Pedroia for staying healthy.

Re: the # of AB's
My point was that Kinsler’s numbers were better than Pedroia despite over 100 fewer at bats. If Kinsler stayed healthy, his numbers would have crushed Pedroia’s. Kinsler matched what Pedroia did despite missing a whole month and a half.
Again, I’m not trying to say Kinsler should even be in the MVP consideration. I’m arguing that Pedroia wasn’t even as good as Ian Kinsler’s injury-shortened season.
There are far better candidates out there who were overlooked.

Pedroia was the MVP among AL 2B...
Those stats aren’t league MVP stats though. Maybe you wrote it best, “MVP type,” but not MVP.
This is an MVP year for a 2B. Pedroia’s 2008, though, is not. In fact, it’s more like Mark Ellis’ career year if he had played it in Boston.
Seriously, Pedroia had a good year, but to allow him to join the select company of MVP 2B is a joke.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

In a Year
where nobody stood out, the best player on one of the best teams deserved it, and there’s really no denying that Boston wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him. In 2008, he was more important to Boston than Manny, Ortiz, Drew, Varitek or any pitcher.

you could argue texas would have finished around the same without hamilton
im not sure the red sox have the same record if you plug in a league average second baseman, especially considering how at random times, ellsburry, drew, ortiz and lowell all either got injured or ice cold during the season. and ya, youkilis was there but so was bradley and the stadium for hamilton and mauer and morneau had each other as well

Hamilton's appearance (being burly with tattoos) frightens teenage girls (and some boys)
Pedroia being, what, 5’2" and 125 pounds, has a Disneyesque quality that is endearing to the Hannah Montana crowd. Plus he has to hustle, while Hamilton is all muscle.

Its a thing in America to identify with other nationalities
Its weird to actually think of yourself as an “American” if you were born and raised in the United States (first generations generally excluded). But thats a whole other topic.

Granted, I lived among you for seven years, I remember...
…nevertheless (and I stand to be corrected if my assumptions here are incorrect and CKoD was in fact raised on the banks of the Lifffey), the suggestion that someone is Irish / Italian / Martian whatever, on the basis that some member of their family 3 generations back spent the first 2 years of their life there, is faintly ridiculous, and to a European ear, bordering on insulting. Whilst I was in Yorba Linda I had a guy by the name of Ramirez, who I swear to God looked as Latino as anyone I’ve met before or since, absolutely insist he was Irish. He wasn’t even able to find it on a globe.
My mother is Irish, I spent my first couple of years there. However, my father is English, and I was predominantly raised in London. I am an Englishman. Whilst I don’t sound like an Irishman, I can technically describe myself as one (I even have the passport to prove it). But I would never presume to do so to someone who actually was raised there.
If you’re an American, be happy with that – surely it’s enough?

Interestingly, though, Americans with
Irish heritage (at least one grandparent born in Ireland, as I understand it) are still eligible for Irish citizenship.

Same rules for everyone, irrespective of nationality...
Born as the son or daughter of someone born in Ireland = Irish
Grandchild of someone born in Ireland = eligible to apply for Irish citizenship (though not guaranteed to get it)
Anyone else = not Irish

Totally agree. Be happy to be American.
My family has been here since before the Revolution, and we honestly don’t even know where we came from. So we have no choice! :)
But for some reason, it’s hip in America these days to say that you’re Irish. People even LIE about it. I don’t get it.

It's hip? Really?
Not being a dick, I just honestly never realized it.
My last name is Kelley, so no…it’s not just to be hip in my case.
Sure, I’m “American,” but no one here really is natively so. And for every one person such as Limey who thinks it is absurd to claim yourself to be what your ancestors were (God forbid someone be proud enough of their family heritage to mention it), there are three people who think it absurd that Americans refer to themselves as something that’s not reflective of their ancestry, by calling themselves American.
More importantly, in the context of the remark I was replying to, I am as “Irish” as the Bostoniafags that he hates.

In Bahstin, at least
The Irish thing plays right into their love of faux-victimhood…(As a qualifier I’m of ~half Irish descent as well—though the feeling I’ve gotten from those in America who identify themselves as Irish is more as an Irish-American thing, as opposed to with the actual country. Remember that up until somewhat recently Irish-Americans were a somewhat distinct community of their own…)

I don't know...
I like Burroughs’ ‘74 over Pedroia’s ‘08 (at least statistically). You make an interesting point in regard to Munson, though Munson’s defensive position could be considered a tipping point.
I realize that there weren’t many great offensive seasons from which to choose (in ’08), but I think Mauer should have been the guy.
