Of course this comes out of Boston...but seriously? Shopping Napoli? Mathis I get, but Napoli? Really?
Can't possibly be true, right?

the Boston Herald just makes crap up
i’m sure they looked at the roster, saw that w have 2 starting catchers and thought, “hey! they both must be available! let’s print it!”
no worries.
Kotch would've had that.

Remember the Yanks in their heyday?
You’d see all kinds of silly trades that had the Yanks making out like bandits on every trade, a fanboy’s wet dream. All crap.
Witty .sig goes here.

Knowing how things work on the East Coast..
I’m sure the Sox could have had either for Coco Crisp/Lugo

I believe the article said
Mathis OR Napoli, not both. Though I don’t see the Halo backstops going anywhere soon. The Bullshit Herald just says crap to appease the fans.

Bah!
Why would we trade one of our cheap young catchers for an old Varitek? If the Red Sox don’t want Varitek, their captain of the team, why should we?

The biggest falsehood
is that Scioscia has some sort of hard-on for Varitek – MIke Scioscia could out-perform Varitek over the course of a major league season and bot men know it.

Buchholz or Anderson
Truth be told, while trading Naps seems a bit far-fetched (And I whole heartedly agree that the article is just some boston writer making up BS), I wouldn’t be against it if it could get us either Buchholz or Anderson. With our organization depth at catcher, getting another strong projectable arm or a top-20 prospect 1B would be worth it I feel. Granted the article has the Sox rejecting those proposals, but it would be something to consider the Sox were willing to part with the players.

Do they just make this sh!t up?
The Angels are open to dealing either Jeff Mathis or Mike Napoli, and manager and former catcher Mike Scioscia is a Varitek admirer.
Why in the hell would the Angels swap a super cheap team controlled player like Napoli for a crickity old diminishing Varitek?

Admirer
Doesn’t mean he likes how Tek plays. He probably just means Sosh said Tek is a nice guy, or maybe Sosh just admires that cute little ‘C’ on his jersey.
Scioscia - He provides to unlike method of your team member.

Looks like the reporter named about half of all MLB catchers as being shopped
What will the Sox do without the human computer behind the dish? I’m not buying this at all, if they want to replace their veteran in decline with sub-Mendoza Mathis, I say…go for it! That may be what it takes to see Naps become an everyday starter.

Not a chance
Mendoza Mathis does not fit the Red Sox type player they like to acquire. They look for the High OPS and SLG % guy like Napoli. Thats the catcher they would want. Just hope the skippers love affair isn’t so deep that the Angels would trade Nap Sac

…i cannot imagine trading napoli for anything short of a blockbuster for us… and by blockbuster for us from the red sox it would have to be masterson AND bucchols which is NOT going to happen and we are NOT going to sign Varitek for any amount of length or money.

Varitek
is like the Red Sox version of Garret Anderson. He’s an old has been who has been with the team forever so there is a strong relationship, they are both relatively undesired on the open market, and they are both Boras clients.
GA is the better offensive player though Varitek does play a more physically demanding position.

Trading Napoli
We’d basically be saying, “Glad we could help you finally break out, and become a legitimate MLB player. Now, go play for our biggest rival, and enjoy whooping our ass in October.” Bostonians must just think we’re complete idiots.
It aint happening. While we’re at it, why not just swap rotations with Texas?

I just love
how Boston is in trade talks with every catcher from every team. I know they make stuff up, but come on man get real. They love to read what they write about, love to read that only Boston can be in trade talks with every single player from every single team. What a mess up in beanbag town.

If this organization is actually shopping Nipples...
they deserve what they get. God forbid this team produce a high-OBP, high-SLG offensive player, let alone a catcher.
I agree that it is probably BS, but I never like reading these things.
If the deal is for Mathis – great – get rid of him. Nipples should be untouchable.

i said the same thing
in a comment on MLBTR.
if the Angels are dumb enought to trade Mike Napoli, they DESERVE to have Mathis as their full-time catcher.
Kotch would've had that.

Just So you all know
This idea was originally floated by none other than Peter Gammons back in July…it’s not a new idea…and Varitek is a free agent so it wouldn’t be a swap of catchers…the Angels would probably get a package that included Masterson OR Bowden(not both)

never trade NAP!
keep him until soc retires and then make him manager!

hahaha
People can just write anything and get away with it now-a-days. Total bull. Napoli in their dreams (he must be dreaming).
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
