Who would you like to keep...
Rodriguez, Teixeira, Garret Anderson, Jon Garland, Juan Rivera and Darren Oliver have all filed for free angecy. In my opinion I believe we can live without Rodriguez and John Garland. As for a closer I would like to see shields start the season as our closer and have Arredondo set him up and by next year Arredondo take the job depending on if he can keep it up. We need Oliver back unless we add another lefty in the bullpen because we need ATLEAST one southpaw in there. And with Anderson and Rivera. I say we would just need one of them. I would say Rivera deserves the chance but Anderson has earned it. I love both players but at this point i would like to see if Rivera can have another 06 season. And with Teixeira I would like to see him back. But if not let morales do his thing and sign Dunn. IMO what do you guys think??

i would like to see GA back
just because of how weird he would look in any other uniform. kind of like how weird erstad looked in chisox pinstripes.

I say G.A and maybe rivera
I strongly believe in Rebuilding our farm system and locking up vlad and lackey. I can’t see GA in another uniform. Not a flashy offseason but it’ll help in the longrun

TEX
For the love of god keep Tex. Also I’d like to see Rivera back and D-Olly. Like the OP said, we need lefties in the pen. On that note, I’d like to welcome in Brian Fuentes as well. He wouldn’t have to close but gives us another insurance policy option at that position just in case Arredondo and Shields don’t pan out, god forbid.

Just GA
and Texeira would float my boat. GA would be used more as the mentor type than anything and maybe come in every couple days, but id rather see that than him in another uniform.

Tex, GA, DO
I’m not sure about Scotty closing though. He’s put in his time at setup, but it’s been a long time since I felt he was in lockdown mode. His September was fine, but his August was atrocious.
Keep in mind, I don't know wtf i'm talking about.

Tex-Rivera
G.A. should be back in the Angels organization eventually, but besides his one month a season where he statistically carries our team, he’s not adding a whole lot other than being a mentor to younger players
Tex is the only player in this list who is irreplaceable. How many other 1B would you choose before TEX if all were free agents?
I think Rivera needs a solid shot at playing every day. He has outstanding offensive talent, he just can’t get consistent playing time.
Can someone falsely shoot GMJ (2pac-esque) and send him to Europe or something so we don’t have to pay him and we can let someone else play.
Or give him to the yankees….

Tex and Oliver
we can move on without the rest.
i’d like to see us make a run at Adam Dunn and trade Figgins, then go after a cheap 5th starter.
Kotch would've had that.

i think trading figgins to open up even a little more cap room wouldnt be terrible
i honestly think teixeira should be pursued at all costs

I'll take...
Heilman for GMJr, with us kicking in money for 2009.
Not sure if it is feasible, but NYM seem to have faded on Heilman, and maybe Butcher can work some magic. Yes, I’m AWARE of the NTC, but GMJr may welcome the chance to play for another contender with an everyday job, though I have no idea if his bridge in that organization was previously burned.
Also, I cannot put past me the idea that Rivera and Frankie become Mets by the end of Winter….
We ONLY need to specifically target a lefty in the bullpen if Shields becomes the closer. If we have another closer, Shields can take care of them in late innings. I read somewhere that someone proposed Dennis Reyes as someone we may target, and while he had a good relief year in ‘07, I don’t see it as a good fit….

NO TRADE CLAUSE IN GMJR CONTRACT
read the other billions of threads talking about this.

He'd waive it
for a team that would give him a chance to play every day.

Tex...thats it.
However, I doubt it will happen.

Tex
And maybe Cousin Oliver. I really, really like Oliver for some reason—strikes me as a real cool/great guy (from the one time I saw him in person, being super chill/nice to a really drunk fan [not me!])…on the other hand, he’s unexpectedly a Type A FA, so those draft picks would be a real steal for us.

Oliver and Tex. Garland on a one year deal.
If we can’t find a left fielder then Rivera would suffice. As long as GMJ is buried.
Teixeira............Everything else can wait.

Garland
will surely get a multi-year deal elsewhere.

I know. He is not worth it.
Those are the terms I would keep him at.

Dream Scenario??
I would want KRod and Teix (who cares about the budget). GA deserves to finish his career here (if he is willing to take a pay cut). We need Oliver or another great bullpen lefty (is there someone else??), he was nails this year. I thinK Rivera is a better backup than we can afford with the above mentioned, and if he will stay for the money we can give him, I think his potential is all up and I can live with his production as is, so sign him too.
I could live without Judy, but then we need someone else, imo. I am not ready to hand the 5th starter gig to the rookie group. I am very comfortable with Lackey, Saunders, Santana and Weaver leading the pitching staff. I hope Escobar makes a great comeback, but that won’t be until the All Star break.

let the kids pitch
i don’t mind letting one of the youngsters hold down the 5th starter spot until escobar comes back. they’ve gotta learn sooner or later. 5th starters are great for garnering the best record in baseball but they do nothing in the playoffs. see boston they’ve been trotting out trash like wakefield for 15 years or so and they do fine because it’s really all about starters 1, 2, 3. So i say let adenhart or green pitch and learn if they can become someone like lester.

Tex
As long as Oliver is offered arbitration, all is good. If he comes back, nice to have him, if not, draft picks will be nice. Not offering arbitration would be idiotic, but sometimes the Angels haven’t even taken the chance for draft picks.
Tex would be great, but it may be out of our hands. Anderson? Time to let him go, like AK, Erstad, Bengie, and the Troys. Rivera would be nice, Garland only on a 1 year deal.
I kind of doubt Garland even has one year of decent pitching in him, but a multiyear offer should not even be contemplated.

Text at any cost, and bring in Jorge Cantu to play 3rd
check out his stats, he’s a stud and he’s flying under the radar

interesting thought
but i’d take my chances with Wood first.
or we could just put Wood at SS…
Kotch would've had that.

The Marlins
want him to play 1st to make room at 3rd for former Halo super prospect Dallas McPherson.

they should just throw Dallas at first
Kotch would've had that.
