Dodgers empty wallet for Manny

Well, here it is:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081106/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bbo_gm_meetings_16

I guess we can say good bye to Tex. If Boras is marketing both of these guys, and according to the article, Manny's $$ will be second only to A-Rod, then we are in trouble. Manny is 36. Tex is 28. If Manny gets closer to $25mm than $20mm, what is Tex worth on the open market? Anybody have any epihany here?

3 years @ $25 million per won't get Manny

Yeah, he’s 36, but A-Rod and Bonds each got contracts through age 42. There’s no reason to think Manny won’t get offered a contract of that length. $25 mil. per? Maybe not, but close. A weak effort by McCourt & Co.

yeah but

1 thing i like about Bonds is that he comes to play everyday. you can’t take that away from him. he’s a gamer. Manny, once he gets that long term deal its going to be all drama, would you really want that?

if it means a world title?

i know, i know….it’s damn tempting though.

no

i mean Bonds. Manny is a headcase. he will never change unless he’s pampered.

The truly ninja move here...

would be to let L.A. fans fall in love with Manny and steal him away from the Dodgers. It’s almost a perfect storm for Arte to continue his assault, and whether or not we want the guy it may just be the right move for our franchise.

Nah, the *real* ninja move...

… would be to let the Dodgers sign the old guy, giving them five ostensibly full-time outfielders under contract, and then encouraging them to trade one of the only two who is remotely tradeable in return for Figgins/Izturis/prospect.
