Ridiculous Racist Bash in Article in OCR
Jeff Miller should be ashamed of himself. This is a terrible piece of journalism. Why even bring race into it? Perhaps the fans do not appreciate the fact he yells and poses after every save? Then he points to sky, which is of course a tribute to his late grand father, but not everyone knows that.
His assertion that this has to with his skin color and accent is laughable.
So if the average LAA fan wants Tex instead of Frankie that makes them racist?
Nice work Jeff Miller. What a douche bag.
Part of it, no doubt, isn't baseball at all. We know what it is. And so do you.
It's that Rodriguez doesn't look or talk like most people who sit in the stands at Angel Stadium. His skin is darker, his voice accented.

He's right.
I was truly pissed when we let Hillenbrand go cause he was white.

I think he might be on to something...
fans hated Steve Finley because of his Hispanic heritage.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

I thought that was Jeff Juden?
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?
Yeah, I bet you were equally as pissed...
when they signed the"Black Man" Torii Hunter to play centerfield…I mean doesn’t character matter anymore?

Is there a more ethnically diverse team than the Angels?
Honest question. I really don’t think so.

Don't they have a one black team member per season quota?
Frank Thomas, Milton Bradley…
More African Americans than any other team in baseball
Teixeira............Everything else can wait.
He who smelt it dealt it
And I just told this fucking moron so via email. Feel free to Spartacus the sentiment directly to him. Or to the editor.

And I've got mad hits like I was Rod Carew" - Shure Shot, The Beastie Boys
this gets more annoying the more i think about it
we all pretty much worship our latin owner, the fan favorites are black(torii), dominican(vlad), and until now, venezuelan(frankie)
I dont think OC fans have purchased an inordinate proportion of jeff mathis and jered weaver jerseys to further their white supremacist agendas.
(im using december’s…)
fuck this guy
That's because they still have their Eckstein/Erstad jerseys on.
They don’t buy Angel’s gear anymore now that the Angel’s GM isn’t white/bald.

Hey, compared to Seattle,
Orange County’s a regular melting pot.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

Sarcasm, and Orange County IS a melting pot.
Which is what makes the article that much more absurd. He says Frankie doesn’t look like the ‘typical fan at an Angel game’ but when I go to M’s/Angel’s games I’ve sat by Indian people, cholos, your ‘typical’ white family of 4, etc.
I live in Orange County. Didn’t say anything about Seattle’s demographics or even Southern California’s. I don’t think the article mentions Seattle, so I’m not sure why you would even mention it. And Seattle ‘white’ is a lot different than 909 ‘white.’

Its Willits
Before he was banished to the bench, it was Willits jerseys people wanted to buy.
what a joke!
i was thinking about counting out the racial diversity on our team, but i don’t even want to stoop to that level. Just tell that asshole to take a look at the nine players we field and the players on our bench and tell himself that we don’t have one of the most diverse teams in baseball.
We have a hispanic owner and an african american GM for chrissake, why would we be racist? And the crowd at games is diverse too…it’s not just white people.
seriously, fuck this guy…trying to stir some shit up.

Is the OCR's Jeff Miller a child molester?
I don’t have any “hard” evidence to make the claim but Jeff Miller DID cover high school sports and reported on the activities of underage boys – one could assume he became an expert in how prepubescent boys think and feel – and he does like to get people aroused with his columns, so what do you think: does circumstantial evidence point to Jeff Miller enjoying the arousal of teenage boys for his own pleasure?

Douche
I’ve already e-mailed him, as this was the worst column I’ve ever read.
This is the only way the Register gets
readership.
The paper is awful and Jeff Miller is worse.
Best part, to me, is that he has to lurk here before he can even create a story.
Unbelievable. I can’t wait for the Register to follow the Trib and NY Times down the drain.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

The best part of the Register has got to be its Pulitzer Prize-winning massage ads
clustered all over the Sports section.
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?
I was shocked/disappointed when I read that article as well..
How can he say Angel’s fans are upset over this move because of racism?!
The guy did save 200+ games for the Angels and I’m sure everyone here appreciates him for that, but if I had to point out ONE reason the Angel’s fans are happy to see his ass go what it really comes down to is his willingness to change teams over $3mm. Not like that is pocket change (well for anyone besides professional athletes), but like Rev (I believe it was) said in a previous post, he could have been the Angel’s Trevor Hoffman. He would have most likely passed Percival in terms of saves unless something drastic were to happen and could have been a legend in Anaheim, hopefully he gets torched on the Mets now.
I accidently read part of the article.
The link said it was written by Miller, which I assumed was Sam Miller and not some regular OCR douche. About a paragraph in, I realized my mistake and clicked elsewhere. The OCR minus Sam Miller is a joke.
He's an Idiot
Trying to score points off the race card.
I’m a big Frankie fan (was). Now I know Frankie wanted to leave. He signed for the same thing we offered him (basically). Fuck him now (was a big, big, big Frankie fan).
Although I never thought we could sign Tex, I understand. Everything you could ask for.
Fuck Frankie. I loved him, now I hope he rots.
Does that make me racist?
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

I saw this shit
I emailed him a piece of my mind. What an ass.
the column
I’d have been more interested if instead of going after the fans — who I don’t think care about race at all — he’d looked at how the media treat and portray these guys. I’m sure many of you remember the Fire Joe Morgan piece about this, where 28 of the 30 players nominated for some gamer award were white guys.
Anyway, I didn’t find the column convincing, or consistent, for many of the reasons stated already. Neither did Janis Carr.
Saving countless runs with my defense.

Funny
I’ve seen many people on this very blog level similar criticisms (or at least implications) against Angels fans and Orange County as a whole.
The organization had issues in the '70's.
I don’t think they do anymore.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

Not what I'm saying.
This column is garbage, but people here get all indignant with the columnist making racially-charged assumptions about Angel fans (and by extension people from Orange Co. in general) when god damn if I haven’t heard people on Halos Heaven many times decrying the white-washed, supposedly racist Republican culture of Orange County.
Miller makes the same kind of generalization of people who live in this area and attend the games that I’ve seen on here scores of times from… how shall I say… the more “left-leaning” element of the HH community. All of a sudden our crowds at the stadium went from being evil white soccer moms from Coto to noble blue-collar Hispanic families from Santa Ana. Orange County transforms into this ethnically diverse paradise once someone in the media dares to suggest there may be some racism harbored within the fanbase or the population.
He should never have brought it up. This kind of shit only perpetuates racism. But c’mon, I’ve seen basically the same things said on this site in the past.
Is there any way some one can find out...
If the editor is taking some action against this? So beyond offensive.
