Mercifully, The Ibanez Rumors Can Now End!

Thank goodness! Raul Ibanez has signed with the Phils. Ibanez is a decent, yet aging, hitter but he was hardly worthy of the Angels' attention. Now that Reagins has been torn away from this option, perhaps he can pursue a more impactful free agent. I would have cringed had the Angels replaced GA with Ibanez. I want a significant, not marginal, improvement over GA. Now, Tony, let's move on to Manny or Dunn or Burrell.

And...

He will no longer mash in our ballpark within the Division – win, win.

I agree.

It drove me crazy how well he always seemed to hit the Angels (throughout his career).

Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

also good news because he was Type A

and Dunn and Burrell (god forbid) are not

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 12, 2008 9:33 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Not necessarily

Dunn and Burrel are also Type A. The reason the won’t cost a draft pick is because their teams didn’t offer arbitration at the risk of having to keep them on a 1 year contract for more than they were willing to spend.

by krush40 on Dec 12, 2008 10:13 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, I know how the arbitration process works

I just took Howie’s word for it that they weren’t Type-A.

my bad, i mis-worded that

i knew they were type A but meant that they wouldnt cost the Type A draft pick

The guy was a bigger butcher in the field than the Green River Killer

Manny was Willie Mays in comparison

the beauty of the Ninja

this was a slick move saying Raul was our priority….i have a feeling something big is in the works.

by SCHalo on Dec 12, 2008 11:22 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

how do you figure?

i think they actually were interested in him to be honest

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 12, 2008 11:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

bingo

i still think Manny is in the plan….just MY opinion.

by SCHalo on Dec 12, 2008 1:56 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No, Manny! Bad Manny!

Big relief. No Raul. Yay. Still………

I can’t believe how many people are willing to sacrifice clubhouse chemistry and, y’know, dignity in their desire of Manny. Anybody who refuses to play because they’re not happy…or worse, ’cause their agent told them not to…has no business being on my team.

The Angels are a class act. Let’s keep it that way.

I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.

by ArkAngel on Dec 12, 2008 11:41 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

let me perfectly clear here

i am against signing manny. But not because of his clubhouse chemistry. It is because he cant field, and will cost alot of money. But if we lost out on Tex I think i could be okay with singing Dunn and then manny for 2-45 or 3-60. anything more i a no go for me. The only problem would be that our OF D would suck. If torii gets hurt we could be faced with an OF of Willits/GMJ/Evans in CF, and Dunn/Manny in LF and Vlad in RF. Thats pretty bad defensively (with KMO at first).

Mr Moreno,
Please re-sign Tex.
Sincerely yours,

Manny Might Fit Great

Who can we not beat? The Red Sox. Who does Manny want to beat the most? The Red Sox. It could be the best thing we could do. 3 years 60 Mil.

PHEW!

Huge sigh of relief on this one.

by jjackflash on Dec 12, 2008 11:43 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

10 mil a year is definitely fair though

is teixeira’s defense and 30 OBP points really worth an extra 13 million a year?

by ihearhowie2.0 on Dec 12, 2008 12:22 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

30 OBP points

and about 9 years younger, more power, “star appeal”… I think an extra $13 mill a year sounds about right. Honestly, after next year I bet Philly wishes they gave that deal to Burrell instead.

Just don't give us Pat Burrell.

That’s all I ask.

I've got nothing.

by bc56274 on Dec 12, 2008 2:32 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'll take Burrell

but only under the condition that we only have to have him for whatever half of the season it is that he shows up for.

YES! Angels "win" the E-banez sweepstakes

Jered Weaver is very happy that Ibanez is out of the division and out of the league.

Raul vs. Jered

27 ABs, 2 doubles, 4 HRs, 6 BBs.
