Burrell Officially On the Market

MLB Hot Stove reported that it looks as though Burrell will NOT be a Philly in 2009.

If stalled contract negotiations didn't seal his fate, then what transpired on Friday morning officially stuck a fork in Pat Burrell's (pictured) nine-year reign in Philadelphia. The Phillies reached an agreement on a three-year deal with free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez to take over in left field and, in turn, leave Burrell out of the picture in Philadelphia.

With Burrell now on the open market, the former first-round pick is likely to garner a lot of interest as a cheaper right-handed-hitting outfielder than Manny Ramirez. Burrell is said to be looking for a three-year deal and should get a lot of interest from American League teams who can use him as a designated hitter. But there's a chance his 2009 destination won't be determined until Ramirez and Mark Teixeira sign.

I know that everyone in pre-occupied with Teix and Manny. And i think the author makes a good point that probably not much will happen until Ramirez and/or Teix have an official team. However, Burrell has a solid bat and is worth looking at.

So the question is, do we pursue Burrell if we don't get Teix? Or do we leave the team as is? Or do we try and pick up both?
