Yankees Sign Carl Pav ...err ...A.J. Burnett
Just in case you weren't sure that the evil empire was back in full swing, they've now put $243.5 million into TWO pitchers in the span of three days this offseason.
And just in case you thought they had learned their lesson their first time when the signed an injury prone former Marlin, they did not. This time, it's A.J. Burnett.
And just in case you thought they'd go cheap and short term to minimize risk, they didn't It's worth $16.5 million a year for FIVE years.
And just in case you thought they learned that rebuilding by throwing money at problems wasn't the way to go...they definitely didn't.
edit: Yes, I know Burnett is better than Pavano, so no need to quote stats. It's all about the money here, folks. It's insane.

Burnett is very injury prone but he is a better pitcher than Pavano.
The contract does SCREAEM Pavano though. DL Burnett is not a good arm to bet on healthwise
Teixeira............Everything else can wait.

So far, one Yankee fan has found this poll.

you just called me a yankee fan, Mr. Death Kiss
That’s akin to calling me a monkey’s ass. If I wasn’t so old, tired, weak and brittle, I would call you out!
The reason I Picked good good is because it’s the Yankees. What do they care about throwing money around. And they get a guy who finish strong last year (10-2) and would be a #2 on most mlb teams.
Bad for us is this is going to make Boston more nervous. I think they are going to come at Tex now with a mine blowing offer. Damn it.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

Wealthy or not
even the Yankees have monetary limits, you know. They can’t put their payroll above and beyond a certain threshold just like anyone else.
The fact is, whether they can afford the contract or not, they paid an exorbitant and UNNECESSARY sum to get him. What they paid could and should have been far less in order to obtain his services.

Go Rays!
I just felt like throwing that in here. Poor Joe Maddon. What’s a guy gotta do?
I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.

GA to the rescue...
does that story still have legs? or is it another lazy rumor?
by SCHalo on Dec 12, 2008 4:37 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
If GA is TB's answer to the Yankee and Red Sux moves, they'll be welcomed to 3rd place next year.

Keep in mind GA is replacing...
Cliff Floyd
They have assloads of talent, they will be fine.

typical Yanker overkill
The new stadium will indeed be home to their hallowed tradition — the tradition of overpaying.

What if CC and Burnett stay healthy
and Joba gets better?
Maybe, just maybe, we could start hating the Yankees again!

You have the new kid everyone is in love with: Joba Chamberlin
The couple who fell in love, regardless of what the world says: A-Rod, Jeter
You have the crazy old principal who the all the kids just ignore and laugh at: George Steinbrenner
The Janitor: Jason Giambi
The kid who is always sick: Carl Pavano
The kid with the drug problem: Rodger Clemens
The girl in love with the kid with the drug problem even though she knows better: Suzyn Waldman
The Gay Kid: Johnny Damon
The Popular Kid: Mariano Rivera
And, now introducing: The Fat Kid
and
The Racist
How don’t you love them?
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

Well all I have to say about the Yankees is
1. I hope they lose with this lineup.
a. Will the greed of C.C. be enough to handle the NY media. I don’t ever want to hear CC complain one single word.
b. AJ, same goes for you.
2. I will commend the Yanks for going out and addressing their biggest need by signing (arguably) the 2 best pitchers available this offseason! They just put their nuts on the line with the money and length of contracts they just agreed to.
With that said, the Angels need offense, and they need offense that is proven in the post season. So I hope that Artie will tender a 3 year offer to Manny.
The Halos put more than a great offer on the table for Tex to “take it or leave it”.
Finally, a question for the witty C.K.O.D. What is with the George Carlin in a Dodger Hat avatar?
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

wait
1. theres nothing wrong with CC taking the money. i don’t know who was officially in second on his list but i’m sure they weren’t even close money wise. this isn’t like he’s taking 10-20M more to go to the yanks. i’m pretty sure most teams like Brewers for sure are 60M apart. theres no way you give that up, unless its the team you rooted for as a kid growing up, and they were close to NYY offer.
i think Teix signs with a east coast team. its time for plan B. whatever that is. lol

Dono
I’m glad to see that you’re a lone voice in the wilderness with all this Manny nonsense. I mean, I’ve seen other guys who are OK with getting him, but you’re the only one with a fetish it seems.
No, Manny! Bad Manny!!
