Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Tex is gone! Now What??????

I know it's not offical but it will soon be.  So now the twin towers of evil have gotten better and we have taken a BIG step back.  Please don't tell me that "it will be ok" or similar blather.  Let's get real:  We lost our closer, and Tex's bat. Our betting order is now average at best and horribly weak at the 7-8-9 hitters.  Please don't point out that now we can go get Abreu, Rivera or G.A.  Morales is inconsistent at best. Howie breaks down and Figgy is up and down and has issues with Mike.  I am terribly depressed.  Sure we get some picks but the pitching staff gets older, Vlad is in his last year and is winding down and our playoff opponents are getting stronger.  My only hope is that Arte goes hard after Peavy and ManRam.

I bleed, as many of you do, Angel Red but we have to believe and feel that we have a competitive product on the field that has a shot at the World Series.  With this poor economy (that is only going to get worse) I wonder if people will sacrifice to go to the games and by the gear if we don't try to make some bold moves.

PLEASE HELP ME FEEL BETTER!!!!!

I'm with Deacon

As a life long Angels fan, this really depresses me. Tex was plan A. And I’m not even sure there was a plan B. Manny? If we don’t make some good moves however, we could be a season away from also losing Lackey and Vlad.

It looks like the front office has some serious work to do now.

Random thoughts

1) Angels need to move swiftly and sign Randy Johnson and Juan Cruz.

2) The highly respected Bill James is projecting Brandon Wood in 2009 to post .253/.307/.470 to go along with 23 homers. FanGraphs . For a 24 year old in his first full season, those numbers would be more than acceptable.
For comparison, Joe Crede’s career line is .257/.306/.447

3) Izzy and Aybar are underrated. They ranked among the best fielding shortstops in all of baseball in 2008. Angels’ shortstops collectively ranked #1 defensively in the AL and #4 in baseball. Probabilistic Model of Range

4) Follow King Felix and the 2008 AL WEST CHAMPION Seattle Mariners all season long at Lookout Landing. At least according to The Soth

"The Sandpeople are easily startled but they will soon be back and in greater numbers."

I alone have to stick up for Vlad?

His last year?

I can, at times, be as cynical as the next person, but we just don’t KNOW that.

Look, he’s had his knees cleaned up. He’s apparently going to be ready for spring training. And besides the first half of last year, where he was admittedly injured, where is the decided downfall? Better than 300 since 1997, and this is his last year? Doesn’t it seem more likely that with an increased DH role he has 4 or 5 more quality years ahead of him, hopefully in Halo Red?

He just needs to roast less goats in the winter, that’s all I’m saying.
