TEX NOT GOING TO RED SUX!

Mlb reports that "In a stunning reversal, the Red Sox have taken themselves out of the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes."

"We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor."

I dont know what to think......Rev just told everyone that TEX IS A RED SUK, and now MLB tells me that Boston is OUT. I dont want the Angels to Overpay for Tex, but then again he is a VERY GOOD PLAYER. Its a risk to sign him for a LONG contract with Alot of money but then again, he might stay healthy and produce through the whole contract. Is the team that took the Red Sux out the Angels, Yanks, the O's, the Nats, or the M's lol?

Thoughts?

So much for trusting the "news".

Is this Boras market manipulation at it’s best?

The questions is…who then has a better offer on the table?
Yankees? Orioles? Nationals? Dodgers? Braves? Angels?

If anyone has a clue, help us out!

I don't know what to make of any of this

reports now saying the Red Sux did not offer 8/184…

who knows who has the highest offer at this point, or who he’s going to sign with…

just for the record, I still think there’s a chance that he signs with the Red Sux, and this is just a move by the ownership to try to get Boras to ease up on his salary demands… but who knows at this point…

by bighead on Dec 18, 2008 9:19 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i think 8/180 is the highest id be willing to go

The fact that hes not going to the sux already makes this a win-win deal for us. Id prefer he sign with us, but if the nats or Os throw out crazy money, then at least we dont really have to worry about him

by adirondackangelfan on Dec 18, 2008 9:46 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I honestly think

and have been thinking that the Red Sox haven’t even made an offer over 6 years. Boras leaked some false information about the Sawk making a huge offer to try and get the Angels to bid higher.

Boras specifically told the Nationals that they would have to pay more for Tex because now Tex is more focused on winning, just like when he declined the Texas extension.

If you really think about it, the Red Sox need things other than a corner infielder. Why would they spend 25m/yr on a player they dont need?

I think Boras was caught in a bluff, the Angels will sign him for 8/170 and call it a day.

GG Boras, GG

Torii Hunter says......

One of the guys on ESPN said that Torii had been in contact all day with Tex, and that he said that Tex was happy that Boston was out of it. Also that Torii said that what the Angels had done was spectacular. That’s just what i caught.

by CaptainCarlos on Dec 18, 2008 10:01 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Chill OUT

This might just be a Boras spin machine move to up the offer. People know how he works now so they are playing his game. Im sure Boston is still in the hunt. Heres how it probably went down.

Boras arrives at meeting and presents offers from “other teams” which are probably totally bogus to try and squeeze some more money of of the SUX for Teix at the last minute.

The SUX calling his bluff say they are out of the running and totally leave town. Boras waits it out a bit longer to see if any other teams up the offer…then realizing he blew it goes back to the SUX and Teix signs by Monday.

LETS HOPE NOT….

no no

that was earlier today when that station said that they were going down to sign Tex.
take that as another unverified rumor.

Kotch would've had that.

by howiestheman on Dec 18, 2008 10:32 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i'm talking about this:

“Earlier tonight, multiple news outlets reported the Red Sox had traveled to Texas to meet with Teixeira and his agent, Scott Boras, in the hopes of trying to finalize a deal. WCVB-TV Channel 5 reported that the Red Sox had offered Teixeira an eight-year deal worth $184 million (an average of $23 million per season).”

that report came from some guy at the station, citing NO sources, who also said the Sawx weree on their way down to sign Tex. He obviously has NO idea what he’s talking about, so you can’t take that reported offer as true

Kotch would've had that.

the guy that wrote that story was just quoting the guy from earlier.

all i’m saying is that the first guy can’t be trusted, since he said the Sox were on their way to sign Tex.

Boras "Response"

Via MLBTR

A couple of hours after Red Sox owner John Henry e-mailed reporters doubts about the Red Sox being able to match competing offers for Mark Teixeira, Teixeira’s agent, Scott Boras, responded to a request for comment with his own email: "The Boston ownership was kind enough to request and travel to meet with Mark Teixeira. While it was a very positive meeting Mark was candid and advised he is in the process of making a decision and is now attempting to eliminate teams."

by mgerman23 on Dec 18, 2008 11:01 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That makes me feel like Sox called his Boras' bluff

and that Boras goes back to Teix and says, I tried to get a little more out of them but they didnt budge but their offer still stands…

i dont feel good about this.

Encouraging News

Oh man this is the most encouraging news I have heard around Tex all offseason. I thought he was as good as gone and have posted that here several times. I still think he is more likely to end up as a Redsux or National, but I see a glimmer of hope now.

By the way, I love this guy Torii Hunter. This dude is a top notch player and a top notch individual.

Yankees?

They’re the one team that can meat Bora$’s demand for ten years and $200+ million. They can do it even after signing Sabathia & Burnett, and still have an effectively lower payroll than they did in 2008.

Or who knows, maybe the Nats have just gone insane. Maybe getting more money for himself and his agent is more important to Teixeira than playing for a winning team.

But my real hope is that he will be donning Angels red again.

Can't help but to feel

Tex will not be with us, next season. I’ve held off on commenting about this for quite a while. When I went to work earlier tonight, Tex was a member of the bosux, then Darth JR. (Henry) says they are no longer in the running for U-Hauls services. Something ain’t right fellow Halo fans. If the sux are truly out, who’s next in line for Tex’s services? Why the waiting game? If there was a team that provided the type of contract that Bora$ wanted all along for Tex, again , why no signing? I have a sneaking suspicion that this is all a ploy, to get every team to bid against itself. But I hope I’m wrong. And this negotiation does not bode well for the rest of our FA hopes, if Bora$ can get the most money for Tex possible, how much is Manny or other FA’s gonna cost the Angels? (sorry ArkAngel, I know you despise Manny)

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....

by halofolife on Dec 19, 2008 1:00 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't believe Henry for a minute.....

This is all posturing by the Sox and Boras, I just don’t believe Boston ownership or their GM (Epstein) would close the door on Tex. I suspect Tex has made up his mind, Boras is trying to squeeze a few more dollars into his pocket by playing all sides against each other. I also would not be suprised if this misdirection is more about where Manny ends up and how much Varitek gets……

Don’t be suprised if there a few more twists and turns in this plot before Tex puts ink on paper. It’s all about greed now….

by mustard_man on Dec 19, 2008 5:21 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by Chzburger Jones on Dec 19, 2008 8:12 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I like this

I like seeing teams balk at outrageous demands. Tex is a great player who isa pure professional, but it’s good to see teams aren’t dancing to Boras’ jig.

by Kernel on Dec 19, 2008 8:18 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is probably just calling Boras's bluff

The Red Sox aren’t really backing out. That would be dumb on their part. They have an offer on the table and from the rumors, it was better than the Angels. Henry is basically telling Boras that he can take his bullshit elsewhere, we’re all stocked up here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Boras told Henry that there was a $200 million offer on the table and Henry gave him the middle finger. If there IS a $200 million offer on the table, then Teix is not going to be an Angel because that offer did not come from Reagins. If there ISN’T a $200 million offer on the table, the Sox or Nats still probably have the highest outstanding offer.

This is definitely better news than “Teix signs with Sox – Red Sox Nation becomes even more unbearable.” But it’s not like Henry officially withdrew the Red Sox from the race.

I went to OTM

just to see what they were saying, and I found this gem:

Does nobody remember the end of last season? It was painfully obvious that we needed another big bat to reach the next level. Signing Teixeira would have made us perhaps the frontrunners in the AL. Now we’re the exact same team we were last year.

For once, they sound just like us! Frightening, no?

No Bluff

Why does everyone think this is a bluff? I believe Tori Hunter is telling the truth. Unless Tex lied to him. I think we have the highest offer and the Red Sox’s are not willing to go that high

by AMB07 on Dec 19, 2008 1:12 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

-if your hanging out with Torii and you guys are talkin about contracts. what are you going to tell him if your Teix. “yeah um the Angels did offer me a contract, but it sucked, i was underwhelmed by it. please Torii don’t tell anyone especially any writers, ok? between us ok?”

by HALO_86 on Dec 19, 2008 3:23 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed.

And besides if it blew him away, why hasn’t he signed? Either it didn’t blow him away and if it did, he REALLY is hoping an east coast team comes close to our offer because he REALLY would rather not play for the Angels.

by Chzburger Jones on Dec 19, 2008 4:08 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

why

Why haven’t the Angels pulled out if they aren’t going to increase their price? If i heard correct Boston’s finalbid was 180mm and Teixiera wants at least 192mm. Angels should know they are out and just move on. But Reagins keeps saying they are in it. Why?

by CaptainCarlos on Dec 19, 2008 4:19 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It doesn't make sense to drop out

The Angels goal is twofold:

1. Get Teixeira
2. If #1 is not going to happen, make whoever gets Teixeira pay as much as possible.

If the Angels drop out, that’s one less bidder that Boston has to worry about and will essentially depress the cost. If the Angels can’t sign him, they might as well bluff that they’re still threats and make Boston pay a few million extra to get Mark’s services.

I feel the need, the need...for speed!

by Gorbachav5 on Dec 19, 2008 4:32 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe but...

at this point a few million more doesn’t make a difference. It is all ready a lot of money. Plus Angels will get draft picks from whoever else signs him. That won’t change. Boston is always going to have some money to spend we all know that. So maybe they have increased their offer but would you want to let anyone know, i wouldn’t. Just Boras.
