I loves me some Hud.
Hud went to the same high school as me…graduated a few years earlier. I’ve chatted with him a few times and always found him to be just a really good guy. I look forward to reading the book.
I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.

I feel bad I never went to Roscoe's last year
I mean, I live in frickin’ Fullerton for crying out loud.
Definatley going to rectify that next year if he continues to broadcast from the deli.

I attempted to infiltrate
And thwart what I can only assume are plans for world domination. But they saw through my disguise – forgot to shave that day.
How many here went to Rex’s show at Roscoe’s on friday home games?

Hey, we all love Hud
But if you can’t poke fun at your friends (for lack of a better word), who can you poke fun at?

Back blurb
“Trading Rex Hudler was one of the toughest moves I ever had to make because he represents a great deal of what the Yankees stand for.”
— George M. Steinbrenner III
Empty enthusiasm and a career .261 average?

Well, kind of
I’m not that impressed with him as an announcer, to be sure — the only thing he brings to the table is his enthusiasm. That said, the crack above was aimed at Steinbrenner, who pretty clearly was trying hard to say nothing while being complimentary.

Back in early '07, I ran a poll
29% (only 94 votes) didn’t like Hudler.

I love Hud, and I listen to/watch 140 games a year!
He is unique, and entertaining, he’s not a bot, and he’s definitely not boring. I like my food spicy, and I sure like naps, but not during the Game!

I love Hud
I hate Physioc.
A Rory Markas – Rex Hudler telecast with Terry Smith and Mark Gubicza on the radio would be the best thing for the Angels

Does he detail in his book good places to find pot?

Hey Potso
Go for 5 or 10 years with no pot. Then visit with a friend who has cancer and is smoking. Then start smoking with your cancer friend in the same way that you over indulge yourself in eating, then perhaps you will pass out and perhaps be cured of your lust of the weed.

I've gone 34 years without pot.

What's not to like about the man?
He’s our Tommy Lasorda, Halo homer and apologist to the very core.

That editor...
earned his money for 2008, 2009 and 2010 for this gig. I can only imagine what his manuscript looked like…
Excerpt from Splinters: A Memoir by Rex Hudler:
“Dude! I’m a #1 draft pick!”, I exclaimed between bowl hits…
Fast forward 12 years:
“Why am I still in AA ball”, I muttered between bowl hits…
Seriously, I can’t stand Hud as an announcer and his fake, over-the-top enthusiasm is just effin’ annoying.

I would hardly call his enthusiasm "fake, over the top". And what's with all this "pot" bashing?
BTW, anybody that calls Cannabis “pot” clearly shows their A) lack of understanding of what a valuable medicine the plant is, B) that they are over 45 and C) perhaps a little jealous at their own lack of positive enjoyment while partaking. Among other things
The “Dude” thing is played out. It’s 2008/09 already.

What's with the pot bashing?
Didn’t Hudler traffic illegal drugs across state lines on an airplane? That’s pretty hard core. It’s not like he’s sitting in his living room watching Family Guy and lightin’ up.
Anyway, I’m not down on cannabis: I actually voted for the proposition back in the day that “legalized” it for medical purposes in CA, so I’m by no means ignorant of the medical implications of the drug and all for any and all forms of pain relief for cancer patients – I lost my grandmother and aunt last year to cancer and they really couldn’t eat at all and were in pretty awful pain. Both were put on cannabis derivatives before they passed. BTW, Is that the excuse that Hud used for toking up? I didn’t recall that if that is the case…
Also, I am under 45 – way under. And I had many a fun time in the past while partaking. I attended the first Lollapalooza after partaking – so I had my fair share of fun.
BTW, re the DUDE thing – I was channeling Hud after he signed his first contract in the early 80’s…the dude thing was just starting then!

Rex Haters Love the pot story and won't let it die because...
…what it really is about is that Rex got caught … and in a pretty stupid way and people riding him about weed are just gloating that they get away with a simple offense that is pretty easy to get away with.
Rex did his penance but noe of you want to let anyone forget that you who have neevr been busted are SOOOOO much smarter than Hud.

I frickin hate Rex Hudler...always supporting the Angels and showing love for the organization as well as tons of love for the fans and the game itself. What a total loser, always stoked on life and stuff.
Whatever dude.

Yeah, but he is a dolt when it comes to broadcasting...
I’d love to have “good” announcers for this team – it would make watching the games much more enjoyable.

The devil you know
is better than the one you do not know – for all of Rex’s inadequacies, eh is better than SO MANY broadcasters out there – especially ones we would be likely to hire.
One thing that weakness Rex is Physioc’s yammering off point – if you notice, Rex is watching the game and will talk about what is in front of him – Phys is more likely to be relieving the magical past seasons of our opponents at critical times of the game.

This is very, very true
Hud needs a foil, or a man with a leash, not a plasticene enabler who asks “You just played the game the right way, didn’t ya Hud?” seven times per broadcast.

Hud makes even a dull boring game sound like it's got some life.

This was awesome...
I get fired up and chuckle when I hear Hud go haywire on the broadcasts. He is so doggone funny.
And even if Phys strokes Hud’s career, well, he’s right…Rex DID play the game the right way. A lot like an Erstad, but with even less talent that Erstad. It was all grit with Hudler.

obviously
his habits make him a more entertaining broadcaster, and if you don’t know what i mean, then you probably don’t share his habits while watching games…haha.
