Good! Now, where do I go to sign the recall petitions?
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?

We're done with this, then?
Right?
What’s interesting about that article, though, is that the writer seems convinced (as indicated by the last paragraph) that Arte is taking his ball and going home in 2016.
I really don’t know how likely that is. I don’t think it would be good for attendance, I really don’t.
But imagine it – eight more years at the Big A – counting down from now…
Get your souvenirs while you can, I guess…

I don't think they are leaving ...
I think that paragraph reads that Arte has the upper hand in 2016. Anaheim can’t afford to lose the Angels, and so will let the name go to keep the team, imo.

Moving
I doubt that they would, but nothing surprises me anymore especially since Arte seems like the type that will get his revenge if he feels someone is trying to fuck (did my f-bomb which I never use anyway) him over. I get the sense that is part of the reason why the Angels didn’t sign K Rod even after his market value plummeted. It seemed that Arte was upset that Frankie turned down previous offers and had decided to just move on.
Anyway if he did move the team I wouldn’t care as long as it was to a place I could drive to without taking 5 hours such as Long Beach or pretty much anything south of the 101 and Valley. I will still be an Angels fan.

Long Beach was Autry's 1st choice - according to Wikipedia
Stymied in his attempt to get a new stadium in Los Angeles, Autry looked elsewhere. His first choice for a stadium was the site offered by the city of Long Beach. However, the city insisted the team be renamed the Long Beach Angels, a condition Autry refused to accept. He was able to strike a deal with the suburban city of Anaheim in Orange County, and construction began on Anaheim Stadium (nicknamed The Big A by Southern Californians), where the Angels moved in 1966.

I don't care
I’ve been an Angel fan from LA Angels to Cal. Angels, to Anaheim Angels and back and forth to LA Angels.
I’m an Angel Fan. What is good for publicity will never influence me, one way or another.
Fregosi to GA and beyond.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

Word.
To me, it always seems like the people that care about this name change business the most aren’t even that hardcore of fans. I mean sure, back when it was changed we ALL were probably irked, but I got used to it and honestly don’t even think about it/care anymore.
Whatever dude.

Makes me think of a story my dad always told me. He grew up in Anaheim and one of his best friends had a brother that was schizophrenic and off his rocker.
Anyway, this crazy guy, when my dad would bring up the Angels(this was early 70’s), used to always rant about how “the Angels will NEVER when a world series until they change their name to Anaheim”. We had some laughs over that one.
Whatever dude.

you can refer to them as the LA Angels.

I accept what has happened, and have mostly moved on, but when possible, still refer to them as the team in Orange County, not Los Angeles County. I still like the line where some writer said the Angels play more games in Oakland than they do in Los Angeles.

See, Rev?
Delays usually mean nothing for lawyers/judges…simply because they’re judges and can take as long as they want. My inside information on this delay is the case was just complicated by nature.

There is a stretch
There is a stretch of land on Alondra Boulevard adjacent the 5 freeway, 6 miles north of Angel Stadium that could be eminent domained in a day and built into a stadium over 2 years. L.A. County would LOVE that all that revenue and the finger would be pointed straight at the City of Anaheim’s whiny leadership. Win-Win for Arte and sweet revenge as well.

6 miles, well that makes sense. Thanks.

Oh yeah!
That’s right near the La Mirada swap meet on Firestone off the I-5. So we can feel right at home, just like at Chavez Ravine. Maybe get a few tacos and tats on our way to the stadium.

dudette
LaMirada is actually whiter and more republican than the platinum triangle and surrounding communities around angel stadium.

Alondra in La Mirada
Intersects justs after the Carl’s Jr after Firestone. The Northbound on-ramp in La Mirada is either on Firestone, or off of Alondra, near the swap meet, which is where the La-Mirada drive in used to be. It is also where commercial businesses such as CHOC thrift stores and others have gone out of business. Nevertheless, the swap meet is a large parcel, right off of Valley View and Alondra in the City of La Mirada and next to the I-5.
On the Buena Park side, which is just a few blocks south, it is zoned all industrial, and you can find a bleach factory, just off of Valley View. The bleach is sold at the 99 cents only stores. The truck traffic is unbelievable. On the west side, Carmenita at the Lowes Hardware Store overpass comes to a single lane of traffic.
Sure Whittier and La Mirada are close and nice, but it depends where. But if you say Alondra and the I-5, then Oh-Oh!
This is a far cry from the tourist resort of Anaheim!

When ANaheim bought he name in exchange for stadium improvements
they were actually paying for better freeway exits into the stadium. It can actually be done again in human history, the city planners do not have to keep things exactly as they are. Progress is weird that way.

City of Angels
Nothing personal to anyone from Anaheim, but the name is small-time and I’m glad the team represents its wide-reaching fanbase.

Whooping cough is no fun
I had it back in 2001. And yes, I was immunized (early ’60s). It was like I was coughing up a lung for six months, until they figured out what it was.

Lucky you weren't on my Medicare HMO
You’d still be waiting for your approval letter.

It was bad enough...
The HMO doctor simply said “You’ve been immunized? You don’t have it!”. Fortunately for me (unfortunately for her), my then 11 year old daughter had just been diagnosed with it by the pediatric section of the same medical group.
I told the doctor to call downstairs, see her diagnosis and give me the f-ing test.
This is the same asshole who 3 months later told me, “You’re diabetic. Here’s your tester, here’s your prescription, see ya”. I called the office two hours later to ask for advice on dietary counseling. 7 years later, I’m still waiting for a callback. Needless to say, I no longer go to that medical group.

Arte would be a fool to move the team. That kind of speculation is idiocy. Almost as idiotic as wanting to recall Curt Pringle ove this lawsuit. He’s been the best thing to happen to Anaheim in my lifetime. This city used to be a slum. Look at it now. Arte only put the LA on there to get the FSn West contract. Its obvious now and that’s why I think a lot of us forgave him. I Like getting 100 Angel games on TV each year. He’s got a great stadium and a huge fanbase right here….in what alternate universe would he LEAVE????

I love Pringles...
they are my favorite chips. They blow Lays and Ruffles right outta the water.
by Downing Rules on Dec 21, 2008 10:02 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
in many alternate and current universes
one earh quake could conceivably make the stadium uninhabitable. one recession could turn anaheim back into a slum.
Arte made $550 million from fsn west and he woudld have made $350 million, so the name got him $200 million, but it cost him $8 Million to defend getting the name and you can bet he is thnking hard how to take that $8 million from Pringo Slumbuster.
by Rev Halofan on Dec 21, 2008 11:25 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Only if he were vindictive
Which is a poor stance to take for a businessman. If you try to screw everybody who screwed you, you wind up handcuffing yourself. Unless Arte’s an idiot, the only way he’s going to move is to improve the bottom line. There are very very few other viable places for a baseball team and with cities getting increasingly reluctant to shell out money to subsidize stadiums, it’s not going to be easy to find a new place.
I still think it’s ridiculous for people to bash Pringle. He HAS done good things for Anaheim, and for the city’s sake, he needed to try to get the name back. How many impressions of the name Anaheim has he lost because of the change? Media usually just leave off the Anaheim when they talk about the Angels. How much is that worth to the city? I don’t know, but it’s significant, I’m sure. I think Pringle’s only fault was taking the case farther than it should have gone. He should have cut his losses after the first appeal and left it at that. But you can’t blame the guy for sticking up for his city.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!

You can blame him for hiring lawyers who wrote a shitty contract
Arte can build his own stadium and buy his own land and if it makes sense to do it… HE WILL.
