Sheets?
I'm just curious...not trying to start an argument or anything...although that's fairly inevitable around here. What do you think about signing Ben Sheets?
Nobody can deny that, when he's healthy, Sheets is a very good pitcher. In 1428 IP, he has 1206 K's and 313 BB's. His career ERA is 3.72. Adenhart could use some more seasoning and, as we've seen, you can never have enough starting pitching.
Obviously, the downside is the injury-risk. The price would have to be right. But barring a trade for Peavy, which seems unlikely, Sheets might fill that hole in the rotation nicely. I like him better than the other FA alternatives out there, but I've seen nothing about an Angels connection. Thoughts?

as you said
the price would have to be right, which means no more than 2 years (maybe a 3rd year option) and relatively cheap.
Kotch would've had that.
2 years with a vesting 3rd year option?
makes sense to me. Obviously a riskier move but one with a higher potential payoff.
I think he can get 3 or 4 years though from a more desperate team so we’ll see
thats what i was thinking
put some sort of innings limit on it to make it a guaranteed option
Kotch would've had that.

No
We could have offered the same money to K-Rod and he would have pitched more innings for us.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
a little hyperbole
ya, he only pitched 100 innings in 2007 and 150 in 2006, which is really bad…but hes also pitched 198 last season and 3 straight years of 216+ innings from 02-04. Everyone said Rich Harden would get hurt for the cubs last year and he never did and he was more or less unstoppable for them after the deadline.
if he can be had for cheap, you dont think that kind of potential dominating pitching is worth it? We could even protect his arm like the Red Sox do with Beckett or the Cubs did with Harden last year. I sure wouldnt mind it, particularly if we were to trade a pitcher for offense after teix leaves.

Meh
Maybe if we can’t sign Tex. He won’t require a long term deal but it will still be pretty pricey. I say we should just go after Randy Johnson on a 1 year deal.

I have a feeling
whatever contract he is going to get, it is going to be pretty sheety. Maybe almost as sheety as the contract the Dodgers gave to Jason is schmidty.
