Scott Boras is Ruining Baseball

Okay, maybe I'm stating the obvious, but who else in the game has ticked you off more than this guy? Mr. Boras routinely makes average ball players who are nice guys look like greedy money hogs, and in this economy, it especially does not look good for them.

The Angels (and no doubt other teams) are tired of his selfish tactics.

I suppose he does what an agent is supposed  to  do , but isnt he going a bit far?

he may have ruined the angels chances at tex, too.

Yes, Boras makes these average ball players who are nice guys hire him.

How can you hate him and give a pass to those who seek his services?

by snowhor on Dec 21, 2008 7:49 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yep

Boras only provides what the players want. Dont be fooled. most of these players we watch couldnt care less where they play, if they win, etc. Its all about $$$$

Zactly.

When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

If you were a ballplayer...

…would you want Boras on your side? I would.

But, I’m still pissed that we lost Tex.

No fat lady singing yet...

and there is not ink drying on any contract that I know of.

I heard the real reason he loves that computer

is that is an algorithm containing all his decision making processes, memories, and personality.

If GA wasn't so Lazy, I'd have something clever here.

Best Agent in Baseball

Only problem for him is that the league is starting to figure him out.

by HungryHunter on Dec 21, 2008 8:35 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How so?

Teixeira is going to sign somewhere for at least 8 years and at least a $180 million contract.

It just going to be with the Angels?

How much did another client [A.J. Burnett] get from the Yankees just recently?

Bor-ASS is doing just fine thank you.

by BBFan1 on Dec 21, 2008 8:52 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

you sure about that?

Tex’s contract may prove otherwise

This is the worst offseason in years. I do not even want to talk about it.

by hauldog on Dec 21, 2008 8:52 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Teix is going to get what he is worth

The Red Sox “pulled out” when Boras tried to drive up the price. Most owners aren’t going to fall for the “mystery team” that got Texas to sign ARod to that huge contract bidding against themselves. My point was that owners are starting to recognize the games that he plays, not that he has become a total failure as an agent.

by HungryHunter on Dec 22, 2008 9:29 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pulled out for 5 minutes?

They never pulled out they just refused to raise their offer. It is still on the table. They are calling Boras’ bluff.

This is the worst offseason in years. I do not even want to talk about it.

by hauldog on Dec 22, 2008 10:45 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

"Pulled out"

Exactly my point. Note the quotation marks. Dense crowd here.

How 'bout the player?

Why didn’t Tex say that he wanted to be on the east coast and the Angels shouldn’t bother?

Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

by vladtheimpaler on Dec 22, 2008 3:30 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Problem Isn't Boras

It’s those who are apparently willing to deal with him. The Braves just blacklisted an entire agency. How hard could it be to tell Boras he better buddy up with te Yanks becuase no one else is going to buy his ridiculous price-jacking?

by Kernel on Dec 22, 2008 7:42 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Because it's forbidden by the CBA

Here’s an excerpt from Article IV

If the Association has notified the Office of the Commissioner that a Player has designated a certified Player Agent or Agents to act on his behalf for the purposes described in this Article IV, no Club may negotiate or attempt to negotiate an individual salary and/or Special Covenants to be included in a Uniform Player’s Contract with any Player Agent(s) other than such Player Agent(s).

Once any player has notified MLB through the MLBPA that they are using a particular player, negotiating teams must negotiate with that agent. They don’t get to shut down negotiations just because they don’t like him. That’s why Frank Wren’s recent tirade about blacklisting Arn Tellem and Paul Kinzer is just so much gas. They can refuse to negotiate for certain free agents, but in practice, that’s all it means.

Witty .sig goes here.

by scareduck on Dec 22, 2008 9:33 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well...

atleast no matter whether the Sux Spanks sign him we get their first round draft pick and a sandwich pick. So hey I do not mind. Boras is just doing his job thats all. It sux but like the Braves everybody should shun Borass and only let him deal with the Spanks and Sux. Lets just go and something worth all of our while. But wait we got Rivera back world series title…

"Throw some CHED!"

“But Scott is only doing his job”. “I wish I had Scott for my Agent”. Where are all of these people at????

I'm right here too

What did he do wrong? You people are just pissed that we aren’t getting Tex.

Don’t expect me to say Boras is ruining baseball because my team isn’t going to get one player. His job is to maximize the amount of money he can get for his client through negotiations. I think its funny that fans are always protecting billionaire owners and say the players are being greedy.

Somebody is willing to pay him more than us. That’s reality and that’s business, no hard feelings here.

by Wytelitning on Dec 22, 2008 10:07 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Don’t expect me to say Boras is ruining baseball because my team isn’t going to get one player`

Well, my team didn’t have a chance to sign any bor-ass client and I say he is bad for baseball. And what he does isn’t really ‘baseball’ business. Thankfully, teams are far more aware of his LIES and are not getting sucked in like they use to.

by tuna411 on Dec 22, 2008 12:50 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Every team has a chance to sign his clients, you are talking nonsense

If you have some sort of knowledge that he is doing something illegal, you should probably contact league officials. Otherwise you just sound bitter.

“Teams are far more aware of his LIES and are not getting sucked in like they use to.” I’m sure that’s why Garret just signed on, he’s hoping to get his family the least amount of money as a FA.

by Wytelitning on Dec 22, 2008 12:59 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yep. players hire agents to act in their best interest

and boras is doing his best to get his client the most money for the longest amount of time. that’s BUSINESS, people. any of us in Tex’s position would want the same for our and our family’s well-being.

by yeswecan on Dec 22, 2008 10:10 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it all comes down to

just how much money does Tex need for his family’s “Well Being”. $160 million. Damn, I don’t know how he’s going to survive! Oh, and it’s garuanteed!

Of course Tex is not doing anything illegal. Neither is Boras. Is he allow to get as much money as he can…..certainly ! ! ! But if perception is reality, than I am going to venture to say that the majority of baseball fans, and families in general, are thinking that Tex and Boras don’t really have any appreciation for anything other than greed.

When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

by Dono Romantico on Dec 22, 2008 3:39 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

pick who's greedy: player or owner?

Someone’s going to profit from the shitloads of money baseball generates. If owners hoard their money (like they did pre-union), they make a killing off of the players. If a player can earn shitloads because the owners can afford it, is that his fault?

If you think $160 million is wrong, then you’ll have to convince baseball fans that they shouldn’t buy tickets or merch, or watch the games on TV, because that’s where baseball earns its money — from us. Yes, it’s ridiculous that great teachers make $30k and Robb Quinlan makes $1m. But that’s what the market will bear. So stop blaming the market unless you’re going to go after the real forces at work, and not the agent and player.

Right here, Dippy.

Chalk me up as a guy who can compartmentalize my frustration with losing out on Teix and not project that anger at inappropriate targets with ridiculous statements like, “Scott Boras is ruining baseball”!!!

by jimmuscomp on Dec 22, 2008 10:24 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not blaming Scott either

Just doing his job...

I wish Tex was signing with the Halos – but if he doesn’t…Boras probably got him more money on a coast he prefers…

by gorams77 on Dec 22, 2008 12:26 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

By this reasoning...

Shouldn’t we really hate Casey Close for getting Gil Meche $55 million?

Doesn’t Meche realize what a mediocre pitcher he is? Frickin greedy bastard!

by Higz on Dec 22, 2008 12:37 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually, no.

Casey Close does not have a public persona exposing himself as a lying biotch, looking for every last dollar, implying there are better offers on the table from elsewhere. bor-ass is the ONLY agent out there that causes wide spread anger from baseball fans. Nobody cares what meche got or anyone else not associated with this prick…

by tuna411 on Dec 22, 2008 12:52 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he's doing his job. very well, too.

the only people he frustrates are the owners who have to shell out their money to get his clients. there’s no evidence that he’s a “lying biotch”, so you’ll have to try harder than that.

if he were my agent, i would expect him to go after the best offers available. seems to me like he does that very well, so that’s why he frustrates owners and has the most successful agency in the game.

by yeswecan on Dec 22, 2008 1:30 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually, there IS evidence that he is a "lying biotch"

It may not stand up to cross-examination, but it is evidence nonetheless. I refer to the Red Sox – Yankees – Johnny Damon episode. And the Kevin Brown – LA Dodgers episode. And the Tom Hicks – ARod episode.

Francisco Rodriguez: 2006 to Present: 149 saves. 5 Panthers. As fabulous as Pride, Romero, Gregg, Budde and Dino Ebel combined.
