My owner can beat up your owner
So I got on tonight, to see what was going on with my prized free agent for my beloved Angels. And, after reading some drivel written by the national guys, I came over to the site I always like the best, yet seek the least. And when I arrived, I seemed to find some struggling with thw entirity of the situation. So I thought I'd weigh in, because I'm clueless and need an outlet.
I've been an Angels fan for a while (not a long while, I'm still young) but before it was cool. I don't judge those who jumped on after, I only say this to illistrate my real point. Remember the winters before Arte? Remember when we were a mid-market team with the ability to afford one star and a lineup out of major league 2? I do.
Scott Boras has ruined my life several times over, yet I don't blame him. He's doing his job. He feeds his kids (and his kids' kids' kids; kids) by being the way he is. He annoys me, but he does his job. He's a badass, but Arte stuck it to him. While we may think of Boras as being a monster, Arte can buy and sell him over and over again.
Finally, someone has stuck it to this guy. We're not going to be played. We're not going to be used. We're finally somebody and it's because we have an owner tough enough to make a billion in billboards.
I'm not sure if this is good in the short term. I'm not even sure I don't want us to reconsider. But at least we have someone willing to be a man in a climate of boys. If we're worse next year, we've still got Arte. And he don't take no mess.
Thoughts?

Arte has a no trade clause...
he is not allowed to be traded! :)
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August, er September, er October...? Miss ya Kotch, but Tex is THE man!
Our governor
can also kick your governor’s ass.
Just thought I would throw that in there.

That used to be Minnesota
And I’d pick Jesse over Arnie any day (both in a fight and politically).

WTF
Shaite happens. One never knows. Rich today, Bernie “Madeoff with it” Madoff the next day. Business decisions are made based on revenues. When it becomes clear that the gate will be way down and Teix and Manny are not likely on the radar, then exactly how much is Arte going to spend? Who is left to spend it on? Certainly there are enough outfielders. The infielders are there, maybe trade one of them. So filling out the pitching staff becomes the issue, meaning the #5 starter and maybe wait for Fuentes to become more reasonable.
What I’ve seen is that a friend had a sizable amount (nearly $50 million) disappear because of Bernie Madof. He bilked $50 billion out of many many people. So don’t be surprised by its sudden impact on the game. There’s no telling without – Show me the money.
LOVE IT
and love Arte for sticking it to the man, great post
The choices this fall are clear: Obama~Scioscia '08
Wait a minute
Isn’t Arte the man? Then, if he’s sticking it to the man, then isn’t he sticking it to himself? Or does that make Steinbrenner the man? I’m all confused.
Witty .sig goes here.
Then, if he’s sticking it to the man, then isn’t he sticking it to himself?
Maybe.
I love that Sprint commercial.

God I love my Angels and our man Arte!! Kiss my Angel, rosey red ass Boras!!
"......and you can kiss it GOODBYE"
Great Post but...
I think Arte or the Ninja should issue some sort of statement as to you why they pulled at. However, actions are louder than words so maybe in the coming days(weeks?) we will discover in what other ways his money will be spent. (Fuentes? Manny? Who knows.)

Also, my manager can beat up your manager....
Ain’t no skipper can mess w/ Mike. As long we keep the Moreno/Scioscia team in tact we’ll be strong and have a lot to root for.
Screw Tex, his wife, his agent & the horse they rode in on for a few months this year. My prediction is he can’t handle the NY media and craps the bed like the rest of them (except Jeter).
Wonder what his reception in Anaheim wil be like? Wait, we gotta til July….I might have to fly down for that one.
Thanks all...
for the nice words. I’m not happy about losing Tex, although I don’t harbor too much ill will. When he comes to Anaheim, I might give him a golf clap.
But I do feel like this off season is a huge step for me as a fan even though we haven’t improved. We’re not helpless any longer. And our brain trust of Arte, Ninja and Mike (who would be even money against any UFC fighter) won’t be pushed around. Especially now that Tex has taken those Yankee dollars, we can see what really happened. The Orioles look impotent, the Nationals look incompetent and the Red Sox look like the middle school bully (you know, the guy who only became a bully after hitting a growth spurt and sprouting some peach fuzz only to be beaten down by the bigger, real bully).
And we look like what we are now. A good team, willing to spend money if needed, but someone who won’t be pushed around, even when the “smart” people say we’re trapped. We’re men now, and it’s taken me this long to adjust to it all.
By the way Rev, I’ve never seen you be so nice to a relative newcomer. I guess all I can say is thanks, since I don’t want to spoil any good will. I hope to be sticking around here a lot more this season for all the insight and therapy.
Thanks all. I look forward to a great season.

Vlad
the midpoint between extra super human and super human.
Sorry Rev, I tried to think of a cool response for an hour now and that’s the best I could do.
And I mean Vlad with two good legs, otherwise he’s just a badass with more heart (remember the 2005 2 base game scoring run against the Blue Jays on Benji’s bunt?), power (tried to think of a particular case, but just came up with countless opposite field home runs) and all around bad assness (2004, 2005, etc.) to make us just fine in 2008.
Power:
Home Run derby champ is a pretty good indication.
