POLL: MARK TEIXEIRA A YANKEE
How do you feel about the Mark Teixeira signing by the Yankees?
I, personally, am sad that he will not be on the Angels in 2009. However, I am very happy that he will not be on the Red Sox. The Yankees have had little success with throwing big money at the top free agents, so I believe that this one has a good chance of flopping for them, as well.
Please fill out your vote for the poll and if your vote is not listed in the choices, go ahead and voice your opinion in the thread.
This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

We're the losers
In your poll, I think we’re the bigger losers. We lose a huge piece of our lineup and we’re not replacing him at all. Boston will survive just fine w/o Teix.
However….THANK YOU STEINBRENNERS!!!!!!!! I don’t even mind losing out on Teix now. I’m just thankful that he didn’t go to Boston.
Christmas miracle.

Then your vote falls here:
It means the Angels are dead due to no off-season moves or big FA signings

I don't think we're dead
But we’re the biggest FA losers

It's the 23rd, therefore it is a Festivus miracle.

Where's the "it means baseball needs a salary cap" option?
Or the “it means Hank Steinbrennar should be murdered” option?
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Dec 23, 2008 4:20 PM PST reply actions 1 recs
More likely Hal should be murdered. He is far more vocal.
This is the worst offseason in years. I do not even want to talk about it.

Hank is the vocal one
with seemingly less power. Hal is the silent but deadly one.

Amen, brother.
To the salary cap part. Not so much the murder part.
I don't know...I'm makin' this up as I go.

How about a salary FLOOR?
One team had a $25M payroll last year? Pathetic.

Wait a minute?
Did you just make a 180?

Or was it merely Costas’ version you objected to.
Snippet:
To clarify one comment his support of a salary cap will never fly with me. Salary floor, sure, I can buy it. I won’t buy into capping, however.
by Downing Rules on Dec 23, 2008 5:07 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
No
I was just asking where the option was, as was clamored for in the other thread.
I would have voted for the murder option.

BOHICA Boston
That is what this means to me.
Bend
Over
Here
It
Comes
Again
The Yanks will rape you like they raped for entirety minus the last 8 years or so.
Hell their bitch of an owner is already crying. He said they have been working to bridge the gap, and the Yankees new stadium separates them yet again.

Damn dude! Can't we spread the hate a little evenly between the Yanks & the Sux
I see your angle. Let the Yanks win so that we can face them in the playoffs. We have owned the Yanks and we are in their heads.
The Red Sox fans are far more annoying than Yankee fans. Hell, all fans from Boston are annoying. Pats fans, out of the closet Celtic fans….nothing like a bunch of spoiled drunks with fucked up annoying accents. Hell, I don’t even think that most Angel fans have problems with the Red Sox players. They play the game right and they have the right attitudes.
The main reason Yankee fans are annoying is because half of them aren’t even from NY & were born here in SoCal. At least with true Yankee fans they can admit the Angels own them (something Sux fans go out of there way to point out to us in our stadium). The Yankees have players that are not very popular outside of NY and come across as arrogant because of “the pinstripes”.
More respect to most Yankee fans/ more respect to the current Sox players.
We still have the best owner in Baseball who has consistantly put a very competitive team on the field. Teams which should have gone to the WS but have imploded.
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

No. Boston fan is infinitely worse than Yankee fan.
I hate that franchise, I hate their fans and since 2004 I consider them and it to be the most obnoxious piece of shit in professional sports.

my dislike for their fans started in 1995 ...
I had season seats that year at the Big A … those fans talked so much more smack that Yankee fans. Yet, they had nothing to back it up. At least the Yankee fans had 2 dozen or so titles to back up the smack talk.

Ya' Know...
Texeira was only here for two months. Boo-Hoo, he’s gone. Yes we saw what the halos offense COULD be like. But come playoff time the April thru June Angels reared their ugly heads, even with Tex. As a team they have to do something about that BA w/ RISP. One guy wont change that. The Angels LOB numbers in the ’08 playoffs were just pathetic! The Halos need some folks to step up and produce Spiezio/Glaus ’02 post-season RBI numbers again!! As I recall Tex had exactly ONE ribbie in the ’08 post season.

not his fault..........
more like Aybar, Figgy and GA’s problem……Teix cant knock em in if they dont get on themselves.

It seems like every offseason
the Yankees sign the premier players. And everytime they have done it, my natural reaction was to think they are a lock to win the WS. Signing Tex is no different. Just look at their lineup and their new pitching. How Can They Lose?
But, for whatever reason, the Yankees have consistantly wasted their highest salary / most talented players and come up short of getting to the WS, let alone winning it. Is this the season for them to buy their WS???
I would love to know what Joe Torre is saying about the Yankees right now. Thank God this is a team sport.

You know who won the world series not that long ago?
Us. Then go back a while and try to see where a big free agent signing made a difference.
We’re not better without Tex. Our lineup has some serious holes. We can pitch (and I mean, WE CAN PITCH) but we’re not better without Tex. I’m sure we’ll do something this offseason besides the Juan Rivera steal, but as it stands now we’re the favorites in our division. As a matter of fact, we’re better on paper than our 2002 team. We can always make a trade at the deadline without mortgaging 8 friggin years and a lot of our players will be better with age (and some worse, but we did seal the division without Tex).
We’re in for a fun ride. And we’re one of the only teams in baseball without horrible long term contracts that doom us (Little Matthews is only on the books for another 3 years at a sum that’s a poor value, but manageable). If there’s one thing this whole thing proves is that we’ll be in this for years to come because we won’t be taken for a ride.
And mark my words, the team in July will be a lot better than the team we see on paper now, one way or another.

Thanks...
I was hoping someone would say that. Tex is a good player, but I can live without him. I still wasn’t thrilled about trading Kotch to get him, but that’s water under the bridge. I’m glad we didn’t sign the team into long-term slavery for one guy. We’ll be fine.

I know I've got to get over this
But, would it have been so terrible to overpay Tex by $5 million per year? The way I figure it, we’re overpaying GMJ by about $5 million per year.
by 10 27 02 on Dec 23, 2008 10:52 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
This isn't your money
and $5 million over the next 3 years (granted, we weren’t that much above Juice Jr.‘s other offers) isn’t the same as expanding it over 8 years.
I love Tex as much as anyone else, but in the off season before 2017, ask me if Tex is worth $22 million. Especially when you remove the vacuum and can see Morales, Wood and a host of others we don’t know about inside and outside the organization.
I would gladly have Tex, but this is hardly a death blow and we’re not on the inside. I think we can be allowed to trust just this once.
by JAP on Dec 24, 2008 1:22 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I hope Morales, Wood, etc. step up and make an impact
But the track record of Angels prospects excelling at the major league level has been rather disappointing lately.
I'm still not over losing Tex.

What the hell did Teix do wrong?
The guy kicked ass while with us. Sure, we all wanted a bit more of a productive off-season but the guy was a stand-up player while with us. He hustled, knocked balls out of the park, was competitive and gave us all something to write about. So he went with the money. Big deal. Like none of us wouldnt do the same.
I am bummed to see him go but that is just the way things go. I go not hate for him and I am 99 percent sure I wont see him showing up on page six of the NY Post with Madonna like a certain new team mate of his. Hes a great, stand-up player. No hard feelings.
Now lets kick his new teams ass.

I Like That We Hate The Red Sox
Even though the Red Sox don’t care about us and instead focus on fighting the Rays and Yankees.
At least Tony Phillips understood what a good rivalry is.
I voted for the Red Sox being bigger losers.
