Khalil Greene headed to Cardinals

Khalil Greene has been a name brought up by many of us during this offseason, but according to THIS SOURCE, he is headed to the St. Louis Cardinals.

I bring this up for 2 reasons... 1) Now we can stop talking about him as a trade possibility, and 2) because now the Padres may need a shortstop - a position in which we currently have a logjam.

I know Reagins and the rest of the front office have been rather quiet on the Jake Peavy front, but could this trade improve our chances of acquiring Peavy. I don't pretend to know what the Padres are asking for, but a package of Jered Weaver, Erick Aybar and a prospect (or 2) would probably be highly competitive with what others teams may have offered.

With Peavy in the starting rotation, not only would we have an amazing 1-4, but we'd also essentially have 3 aces (Peavy, Lackey, Santana). If we could add a cheap, low-risk 5th starter (maybe Garland through arb?), I'd be all for it.

On the offensive front, we'd obviously have the money to sign Tex, Brandon Wood could take over as the starting shortstop (or third baseman, should Figgins move to LF, in which case Maicer Izturis becomes the starter), and I think we could really see some good things happen.

Thoughts?
