Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Regins must have done this already

I would have to believe that Regins has at least had a roundabout conversation with the principles in Baltimore regarding Nick Markakis. Stoneman tried to pry him loose from there when he was officially calling the shots. I understand the inevitable comment that "This is not the type of player that a team would trade", however almost everyone has a price…………and someone has to dream.

Markakis and his agent have been playing cat and mouse with Oriole’s ownership for a while now. Markakis, a possibly budding superstar, is eligible for arbitration, and the two parties have been dancing around the maypole for weeks, and months. I seem to remember squabbling last season before they finally re-newed him just before the season started for little more than league minimum, so there is a history of contentiousness there.

It’s reported everywhere that Baltimore wants/needs a long-term solution at SS in a bad way. There have been recent reports of their interest in Felix Pie (although I personally think they can do better). Additionally, everybody goes "Gah-Gah" over young starting pitching.

Although I am not one to throw around the names of our young talent as useless trading chips (or someone else’s money) as many here are want to do, I must admit that I have given a lot of thought to this scenario:

One of Aybar/Izturis

One of TEvans/Willits

The KICKER……Nick Adenhart (another Maryland native).......for Nick Markakis.

Peter Angelos has a history of making, and then not making, strange deals over the years. Little more than two years ago, he backed out of a supposed deal with Stoneman for Santana and Aybar for Miguel Tejada (I can’t remember if we didn’t offer another in that package, too). If he doesn’t land Teixeira, it’s speculated that he’ll also find a way to move Brian Roberts, so conceivably we could add another player for George Sherrill….but I digress.

Markakis has abundant numbers. He does well batting 2nd. He bats left handed. He has a rifle arm,…..and he just turned 25 years old.

He plays RF, but I’m sure he could be persuaded to play LF for a while until his future permant home in RF becomes available..........Markakis is offense and defense for now…………..and for the FUTURE.

GREEK is the word

Angelos and Markakis are both GREEK and Angelos is said to be reticent to trade his paisoano and favorite Oriole since Cal.

Seriously.

Nice idea, but probably too optimistic

Markakis is one of the 30 or 40 most valuable properties in baseball. I don’t think Adenhart is nearly enough to get it done, and he’s the only player here with real upside.

Saving countless runs with my defense.

I like

the idea but again like above post markakis is to valuable. The orioles need more from markakis to just have a decent season than the three guys offered. I would love to have the guy though, Stud!

I'm from the Orioles area...

and I have heard a lot about Markakis in the last two years. Last offseason, when you would have expected Markakis to get a significant raise, was actually given a lower salary than the previous year because his agent and the team were unable to find a compromise for his new salary. I remember this not sitting to well with Markakis also, and if the Orioles think the relationship is hurt bad enough to where they are confident they won’t be able to sign him after he is past the point of team control, they are definitely thinking about trading him. The only problem is, that’s still a couple years away, so they can get some good use out of him while they still have him under team control for a little while.

not happening

i dont think that package would even get us bobby jenks right now, much less a franchise type YOUNG outfielder

To get Markakis...

you’d have to start with Saunders, Aybar and Howie. They’d then flip B-Roberts for a slew of young talent to restock the team.

No way Willits is the answer to any question the Halos have right now. I love him and think that his OBP play on a team with tons of offense and a hole at leadoff and in CF, but that is questionable and not something that teams want to trade young stud hitters for…

Willits skill set is the kind of thing you stumble upon by signing a promising minor league FA, not something you trade for.

i would trade for him in a freaking heartbeat

BUT doing so might create more holes that we couldn’t fill.

Aybar, Saunders/Weaver, Adenhart would be a good starting point. we’d probably have to kick in somebody else pretty highly rated as well. maybe they’d take Figgins?

at the same time, though, we could then sign Teixeira and use the rest of our offseason money to sign pitching. i’d be hesitant to make a deal that leaves us with a set 3-man rotation, but this lineup sure looks good….

Izturis SS
Markakis LF
Teixeira 1B
Guerrero RF/DH
Hunter CF
Napoli C
Kendrick 2B
Morales DH/RF
Wood 3B

obviously, if they didn’t take Figgy, he’d be at leadoff and Wood would play SS.

Kotch would've had that.

Yeah

We have enough outfielders. Sure, Markakis rules, but let’s keep our pitching intact. I’d hate to see us trade pitching talent and then be llike “Der, wha happened to our awesome rotation?”

I say we go after George Papadopolis.

exactly

it’s a fun idea, but we’d kill our rotation

Kotch would've had that.

Not gonna do it.

Markakis would require a lot more.
