Still No Angels Offer for Tex--WTF?!!?
OK, so I understand the initial strategy of waiting for the market to develop and then making a quick-strike, Ninja offer. That makes sense--wouldn't have been good to go making some massive offer from the get go and then watching the Yankees or Red Sox behemoth greatly overshadow it.
But seriously, Reagins? You STILL aren't going to make an offer??
By the time Ninja gets his pen out to draft an offer, Tex will be LONG GONE.

on espn, they polled a bunch of baseball execs when they thought he'd sign
and the average date was like december 22nd with the latest guesses going into january.
these people probably have a better idea of how boras negotiations work than you, tony reagins included.
why bid if its just gonna sit there and get shopped to other clubs? Theyre respecting mark’s right to test the free market and not pressuring him, something im sure he greatly appreciates. Whats the point of alienating a fragile negotiation with early offers with deadlines?
tonys doing it RIGHT. teixeira isnt signing this week or probably not even next week. Accept it.

It just seems odd
As I said in the original post, I understand and agree with (maybe didn’t make that part clear) the notion of letting the market develop before making an offer. It’s just that at this point, it’s become apparent that the market isn’t going to develop in such a clear cut manner, and it’s seeming more and more likely that some other team will swoop in. If the Angels haven’t even indicated to Tex or Boras that they’re giving an offer in the near future, then it would be ludicrous for Tex to wait around for Ninja to get his act together.

If making them wait makes them nervous
then make them wait.

Well ok
But how long until they get tired of waiting/playing these games and say essentially, “F you, I quit” and sign with the Sawx? You know that’s what Boras will push Tex to do if he smells more money…

The critical thing, in this market, is the 1st offer he receives...
…Boras will use it as the benchmark and ask everyone else to match or better it, and he absolutely won’t move on until he’s got an indication from the big players (Skanks, Massholes, Halos etc) whether or not they’ll play ball. The only alternative is to bet first, push it all in and pray that the other teams haven’t the stones to play. Even then, as CC Sabathia vs NY is showing, it’s not a done deal.
I think all 3 big players are praying for the Nats to move first and to do it soon…

Don't forget...
It wasn’t really worth making an offer until today at the earliest, given that they’d offered him arbitration.

Teixeira has already met with all the teams that are interested in paying his price.
That has been well reported. By now, Teixeira has probably stated to his agent which team he would prefer to play for in 2009. It is up to Boras now to extract the most money possible from that preferred team by whatever negotiating means at his disposal. I don’t think it is a matter of any team making an offer or swooping in at the last moment. It is in Boras’ hands now.
