Math-letes

I don't know how many people have seen/heard/read about this, but it's pretty darn funny, so I thought I'd share it!

Here's a link to the stories:

OC Register
(There are other versions on LA Times and the Angels Website, too)

Basically, as a Spring Training prank/laugh, Scioscia got a hold of Lackey's report card from his last semester @ his community college. He got an "A" in a class called "Country Pop and Rock," but he failed algebra.

So later, Scioscia called Lackey's mom (who happens to be a teacher) on a speaker phone in the clubhouse w/ everyone listening as part two of the joke.

As for part three, Scioscia got an ASU student to come and give them a college sophomore algebra test for Lackey to take.  And Willits, Q, and Mathis (along with partners) will be taking the test, too. The test is due tomorrow, so we should be hearing about the results then!

This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan. Tell us what you think and how you feel.

thats awesome
This is one of those things that makes you think about clubhouse chemistry. And how you might not make $9 million dollars to play baseball, but you know calculus.

It's a bitter beer.

what is worse though
is getting an F in algebra and not being a baseball star.

Math......
In High School I took in order with Grades for each semester.

Algebra C  A (1st Semester teacher got fired for not teaching and trying to sell his CDs to students. The next teacher was bad ass and I took her for Algebra 2 Honors)

Geometry Honors A+ A+

Algebra 2 Honors C+ B

Trigonometry Honors A A+

AP Calculus C C (Got a 1 on the AP test(California test for College credits))

AP Calculus B B+ (Got a 3 on the AP test)

You have to get a 3,4,or 5 to pass the stupid test. So I was DONE with math after high school. But I still have to use it in ISDS 365A/B (Passed A with an A+, and now Im taking B and the teacher is freakin retarted. I just had my first test and I am sure I got a D or an F on it.)

I Graduated with HONORS/Academic Diploma from La Habra High School with a 4.13 GPA and now as a Junior at CSUF I have a 2.74 GPA.....I hate School, I think I burnt myself out in HS!!!!!

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the end of this semester
I graduate from Rutgers.  Barring massive screw ups, I'll have high honors with a degree in journalism, a degree in politicial science, and a minor in American history.

Not to brag or anything. ;)

I already have my job lined up
Fuddruckers, thank you very much.

Actually, I do have a job lined up.  But in the lame not-necessarily-deserving-but-with-connections way.

It is who you know
connections = fate's way of saying you are deserving

no connections = you just haven't earned it yet, baby!

Television writer's assistant
it depends on the show(s) that open up when I graduate, and it's a lowly job to start, but it's one of those (to borrow a baseball term) huge 'upside' jobs.

How did you get a 4.13???...
when you got B's and C's in half your math classes?

It doesn't add up. But then again, math ain't your bag.

by The Clyde on Feb 25, 2008 11:01 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Math aint your bag!!!!
Honors and AP courses give higher GPAs.

A = 5.0 GPA
B = 4.0 GPA
C = 3.0 GPA you get it?

Plus Trig and Geometry I took in the Summer so it counted as if I got 4 semester with a 5.0 GPA!!

And I took other AP/Honors Classes... ECON, SPANISH, WORLD HISTORY.....ect.

I only  5 C's in High School, Some B's and MOST A's.

And I took Summer School to get ahead since the summer of 8th grade A's in every class. You do the math.

Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since you're such a great English student...
you're no doubt familiar with M.H. Abrams' A Glossary of Literary Terms. See the entry called "sarcasm."

And you're wrong, spelling is part of English. It's how words, i.e. the English language, get constructed. FYI, English also includes punctuation, sentence structure, and capitalization.

Ohhhh...
Why didn't you say so before?! Well that just changes everything! Please feel free to post all of your academic records on Halos Heaven for our perusal. Oh man, it would be awesome: You could start with a diary dedicated to Kindergarten complete with class photos, old Valentine's Day cards, pilgrim hats you made out of construction paper, etc. Then on each successive day you could do the next grade all the way up until the present school year! Christ, I'm fairly bursting with aniticpation!

My dad was on the school board
and my chemistry teacher was also the tennis coach who wanted lights for the tennis courts.

I was never less deserving of a good grade in my entire life.

stealing "The Bob"
anybody remember when naughty high-school kids would go to the Bob's Big Boy and steal the big statue of "The Bob" out front? After the Bob started making appearances on the rooftops of SoCal high schools, no amount of bolts and chains seemed enough to keep him in place at the restaurant.

I GOT EXPELLED FROM HIGH SCHOOL
So I took the GED and started college when I was 16.

Some Dumb Ass took a Piccolo Pete bomb
to school and lit it in the main hall. When it went off everyone started screaming and running out to the fields. There was a loud ring sound in my ears and I couldnt hear anyone cuz I was close to where they lit it. The Kid got Expelled form school and got taken by the cops.

2.  Some other dumb ass in my Computer Animation class printed out a paper that said "The Bomb will go OFF in a few HRs" trying to be funny. The Sub saw paper when it was done printing and called the Cops. The FBI went to our school and that kid got into serious trouble. Our Teacher was Cussing us out and going all Britney on us the next day. The funny thing was that our teachers name was Miss Cox (It was funnier when I was in 10th grade).

ETHICS
What an amazing class - made me the scoundrel I was before today...

I sucked so bad at high school algebra ...
... that I failed it two times. Sophomore year I failed it, same with junior year. The bad thing was the algebra teacher was also the JV baseball coach, so I didn't even go out for baseball my soph year.

That algebra teacher was such a knob. But I made the varsity baseball team my junior year so I didn't mind telling him to f--- himself.

By the way his name was Mr Porter and he's probably still a huge prick.

My senior year, I finally got through algebra with a C by cheating.

Don't call me Desmond

I was wondering ...
why the team was kind of delayed coming out of the locker room Monday morning.  I guess they were making that conference call to Momma Lackey.  Or is that the "mother lacktater?"
