Gammons Gives Hunter His Props

Peter Gammons wrote a great article validating the expense of Torii's contract and the significance of his leadership abilities both on and off the field.

Arte expressed the sincerity of his confidence in Hunter, saying, "He represents what we want the Angels to be."

I saw Gammons out there in Tempe...
on Sunday 2/24.  He was walking with Scioscia to and from the practice fields.  He spent some time with Arte behind the batting cages, too.

The Theme of the Article
Is that to outwit the Sabermetric Critiques of every single thing that is out there, you have to remind the stat-heads that there is this thing called life outside of their mom's basement...

loved it
really a great read.

i think in baseball the contract and whether or not its a "good" one can overshadow some of the things bigger than the game that are going on with a player. I think people should be really happy that we have such a great embassador of the game playing center field for us.

100 underpriveleged kids at every game put into his contract, very cool. im still very happy with that signing regardless. happy that he represents angels baseball to the rest of the world

this ones pretty amusing. apparently hes going to be featured in ESPN's fantasy baseball commercials and it also talks about how hes the spokesman for some energy drink too.

i have really not seen one bad thing written about him since we've signed him

Despite how good of a guy I think Hunter really is
The Angels have always been known for their philanthropic endeavors into the community. Whether it is the club itself (Angels foundation, Baseball clinics, Public outreach programs) or the individual contributions of specific players, the club cares about reaching out.

That said, I think Hunter will mesh extremely well with the organization both philosophically and athletically.

Tuggin' at the heartstrings, baby...
BTW, here's some great shots of Torii Hunter from REUTERS -- the leading global provider of breaking news, financial and technology news to the world's media, financial institutions, businesses and individuals.

Yes, you are right...
But, hey, I thought Brian McRae from FSN was Kelvim Escobar.  Jose Mota started laughing at me.  I kept yelling "Kelvim: Sign an autograph."

McRae had a freshly shaved melon, some sweet duds, and flashy shades.  I thought for sure it was myspacecobar.  McRae was doing an FSN west interview of Torii Hunter.
