After watching "There Will Be Blood" I started reading "Slick and the Duchess" by John W. Ravage.  The book concerns Teapot Dome, the Elk Hills Naval Petroleum Reserve, and Warren G. Harding.  Yes, there was a Slick before Bill Clinton!  Edward Doheny also gets a mention.

If we were having a sunny 80 degrees Fahrenheit day here in Southern California today the five of us would be in a short line to get our photo IDs for Disneyland Annual Passes instead of watching the carpet-bagging NFL Super Bowl.  I am an L.A. Rams fan that is pleased that Georgia Frontiere is now 6 feet under and that the Georgia Sucks banners have been changed to Georgia Sucks Dirt!  I would rather see one of those banners for old times sake than a costume malfunction in the Super Bowl halftime show.

by Yetijuice on Feb 3, 2008 10:09 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Were those banners fire-proofed?
We tried to bring in banners in the last days of the LA Rams in '94 but the stadium wouldn't let us bring them in... They claimed that there was a stadium rule that all banners had to be approved by the Anaheim fire department.  What a load of fecal matter that was.  She didn't want any dissent to be viewed publicly.  It was all in an attempt to make it look like nobody cared here.  Sure enough, she succeeded, got millions and millions from Saint Lou and the rest is history.  What a hero she is in STL and there is no telling anyone there anything different.

Whatever.

I hope somehow she made it to the pearly gates, but I highly doubt it.

December 1st, 1991
... was the last Los Angeles Rams game I went to.  The Washington Redskins won that game 27-6.

I usually sat just to the leftfield side of the football press box in the upper deck.  There were always empty seats there even though it was about the 20-yard-line.  The SW corner of the endzone (closest to homeplate) was blocked from my view.  That only was a bother for a couple plays a game.

I never tried to bring a banner to a game.  Invariably somebody else usually in the leftfield (north) endzone would unfurl a "Georgia Sucks" banner to rousing cheers.  The ushers would rush to tear it down.  Methinks Georgia had a stopwatch on the ushers.  If it took longer than 60 seconds they would get fired.

All of the pre-game Super Bowl hype should be over by now.  Time to plant myself in front of the telly for the opening kick-off.

Incline Village, Nevada 1991-2001
My bad.  I have not been in Las Vegas since 1974 and even then it was only on a bus between Nellis AFB and the Las Vegas airport.  My pick was for the Patsies to cover the pointspread.  My New England 38-20 pick appears to be a bit high at halftime.  I will predict that more points will be scored in the second half than in the first half.  Based on three Rose Bowl games I have been to that were 3-3 at halftime (1972 was 3-3 after 3 quarters) I would have predicted the second half to have more scoring than the first half.  But that is locking the barn door after the horses escaped--not to mentioned confusing the Supers with the Roses.

How classy was
Belichick and his team leaving the field before the game was over?

by TheTypingFiend on Feb 3, 2008 9:07 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Neither Belichick nor Brady would
come out and admit the Giants were the better team today. All they would say is the Patriots did'nt quite get the win.

his post game interview sounded so insincere. Karma is a bitch
After running up the score on games already won, after being accused of cheating, and not a whole hell of alot done about it by the commish,(a fine that a few drunken chowds would gladly have paid themselves cuz belichick iz wicked smaaht)it done my heart good to see BB, and the rest of the greatest team to ever play football, scurry off the field, like roaches with the lights on, rather than witness Eli take a knee, and win the game, if I were Eli, I would've thrown the ball downfield and try to score one more meaningless TD, thats what Belichick would've done, hoping the karma carries over to the bosux. Drink hearty chowds, you have earned it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
