1:05 PM - Angels @ Cubs - Black Magic V. Dempster

I get my computer back from the repair shop this afternoon, so posting should be more frequent beginning soon. Thanks to Missus Halofan for renting me macintosh access cheap.

Pregame-Gasm Guesses

1. How many batters will Ervin Santana allow to reach base?

2. Which team will score first?

3. Yes or No: Will any pitcher from either team strike out the side?

BTW

Anyone know how to get a valid link to the gameday for yesterday's game? For some reason it's not working out for me. (And then, can't tell when the DPs took place yesterday) Unless someone can answer that. From the comments I THINK I can infer that it was 0, but I'd like concrete proof.

Chart it up! Game on!

Allow?

I don't think he will "allow" anyone to reach safely. But I think a few will get on, maybe more than a few with this fool pitching.

I don't do well on the guesses, so... Angels vs Dumpster? Angels by 7!

You know what I like?

Kendrick in the 2 hole. Granted this is kind of a strange lineup, but maybe it means Scioscia is thinking about trying some things.

Wake me up on opening day.

by 101halo on Mar 14, 2008 12:55 PM PDT reply actions

I like that too

hopefully, this will become a trend.

his .340 average is look great in that 2 slot.

by howiestheman on Mar 14, 2008 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

except he doesnt walk

you want patient hitters hitting in front of vlad. Howie is awesome, but he cant walk to save his life. Hes a run producer, not a table setter. In other words, unless he IS hitting .340, his OBP will be weaker than other guys could be. Not saying matthews is great, but he can take a walk and has speed. If howie can develop some sort of discipline hed be the ideal 2 hitter but until then, im happy with him not thinking too much and just keep doing what works for him.

by ihearhowie2.0 on Mar 14, 2008 1:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Hunter not in the lineup?

Was he "suspended" for forgetting his jersey (JOKE)? I read in the times and register that he had to borrow Dee Brown's #32 jersey for the 1st at-bat until the equipment lackeys could bring his #48 to the game.

Crap

What the heck is going on with Santana? I think I'm starting to side with goodvibes61 on this one. Yeah, it's spring, but it's high time for him to show some balls other than the ones he throws. Escobar needs to get healthy, and soon.

I'm with you

The "It's only Spring Training" mantra only goes so far. He hasn't shown anything to make anyone think he's turned it around.

He's the Dallas McPherson of pitchers...

how many more chances can we give him? Granted, it is spring.

by Downing Rules on Mar 14, 2008 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

No

If he were the Dallas McPherson of pitchers, he'd have three major league starts and hit .220/.310/.458 and spent most of his career on the DL.

Santana...

this is not encouraging at all. I understand the whole "It's only spring training" part; but he hasn't had ONE outing that is even remotely positive.

Just got a chance to peek at the game today

so I couldn't venture any picks this morning...

I was hoping to see some good news about Ervin today, but apparently not. Bummer. Not good at all. No matter what some others said about this being spring, I'm extremely worried if he's a major part of the plan...

by goodvibe61 on Mar 14, 2008 2:28 PM PDT reply actions

Totally agree

This is his third outing, I believe. It's not like he hasn't been pitching for 6 months - he was pitching fine in winterball. Apparently, that is much easier than MLB.
