John Lackey to Miss Most of April
John Lackey is expected to miss most of April after being diagnosed with a strained triceps.
FROM ROTOWORLD
It's a new problem in a different location than the elbow soreness that
limited him at the beginning of the spring. The Angels will shut him
down completely for 3-4 weeks, so he's going to miss his first five or
so regular-season starts. Dustin Moseley most likely will join the
rotation as a fifth starter. With now three pitchers set to start off
on the DL (Kelvim Escobar and Chris Bootcheck being the others), the
Angels figure to attempt to pick up at least one middle reliever before
the end of the spring. Darren O'Day suddenly looks like a good bet to
make the team.
Holy crap our rotation is going to suck
Garland, Weaver, Saunders, Santana, Moseley

If Lackey Misses Five Scheduled Starts
He starts on May 1st. At this point, A month of No Escobar and No Lackey seems like it is not insurmountable...
Well
It looks clear that at the beginning of May, Seattle is gonna be in 1st place. Ouch.
Wake me up on opening day.
Although if we somehow manage...
to be in 1st place on May 1st, then we're gonna walk all over the division this year, and will have shown the true depth of our organization at AAA. Yes we can! (I hope...)
Wake me up on opening day.
Alright, one more thought...
Acuda, is there any chance that Morales can pitch? Is there anything he can't do?
Wake me up on opening day.
Yes he has Pitched.....
While playing in Cuba's equivalent of USA's AAA series, and with only 16-17 years old, he was already a national sensation due to his extraordinary performance in the World Championship of the category, where he was the first starter of the pitching staff, and fourth in the batting order, plus his ability to get home-runs either, batting left or right-handed.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is my optimistic take...
By May 15, if all goes well, both Lackey and Escobar should be back. In the meantime, the Halos have 6 weeks to audition folks and make an informed decision about who of the Saunders/Santana/Moseley trio is worth keeping and who is trade bait. Similarly, if they REALLY need someone, Nick Adenhart is a phone call away.
This allows for something pretty rare - Major League Evaluation - of multiple folks out of necessity. The front office has no choice but to check these guys out, so the fan base can't really complain and management gets really good information about performance, handling adversity, etc. I can tolerate it from that perspective - but it still blows.
Yeah, we've seen these three before - but this isn't Moseley filling in for Colon v. 2007 for two weeks; this is Saunders/Santana/Moseley filling for one of the best 1-2 combinations in the big leagues for six weeks - or about 7 starts.
There is information to glean from this.
And - don't be frightened of Seattle - they have the Bavasi kid running them - they'll stumble out of the gate.
east coast bias..
i know we can see it everywhere we look, but i think its funny how when the ace of the yanks, mets, or bosox gets a scratch on their left calf, its "breaking news" on the site, but the ace of the angels, who happened to be the ERA leader in the AL last year, has a triceps strain, and NOTHING..
Here's to another season of baseball! Angels in '08!
wow
imagine if the miguel cabrera trade happened.
our rotation would be something like
garland
weaver
saunders
moseley
??????
are we going to sign kyle lohse? am i going to throw up?
No Lohser
That's a typo in the header, but I decided to leave it because it's appropriate. Lohse signed with someone else, I forget whom.

master plan or not
it's dishonest. The least you should do is own up that RotoWorld wrote it.
THANKS FOR CATCHING THAT

Play on Playaz
Yet another chance for young angel blood to show and prove?
Is the injury bug still in the clubhouse from the playoffs?
TonZ of GunZ
89 wins
projected by BP doesn't look so unreasonable now.
Hoping Ervin Santana turns it around in Salt Lake. Go, Ervin!
betting?
If one can not sell tickets on this site, then certainly one should not wager here either.
Plenty of odds makers elsewhere.
And how exactly would the bet be placed?
I'm Hudd! Goodbye Phys!
Relax, Hudd
Make it a symbolic $10 if you prefer. Point being, I'm curious to know if anyone smart thinks the Angels will win as few as 89 games, in a year when Oakland's rebuilding, Texas still stucks, and Seattle will in no way shape or form repeat it's miracle of not having any regular players get hurt.
Bad Bet to accept
Vegas want -120 for over 92.5 wins
I would like to find a taker as well...I will put a grand down as well on over 89 wins at even money...no brainer, considering I already got $500 on over 92.5 at -120
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
Glass half full...
1. With an extra month off, Lackey will be rested and in great shape for the play-offs
2. So will MySpace
3. The Mariners can't bat for shit (and Texas/Oakland still suck)
4. A couple of early starts for Adenhart in the bigs might be the making of him
5. Garland, Weaver, Santana, Sanders, Adenhart/Moseley is still better than most of the major leagues
I see red people
Yankees and John Lackey...
If anything the Yankees have taught us is that June is when you need to make your move.
daaaaaamn...
maybe the injuries occurring before the season beginning means they won't happen during the season.
i wonder how well a rotation of weaver, garland, saunders, santana, and moseley would do... who'd be the stopper in that? who stops a losing streak?
"it's mind-bottling."
:(
I don't like this one bit. The depth that we all thought we'd have has quickly gone away.
You guys in California really do live in heaven, the Angels are in town for more than just six games and there is Jack in the Box within 200 miles.
This is why we HAVE the depth!
I worry not! We will be fine!
If you want to worry, worry about Lackey and/or MySpacobar being out for the season! Me, I can't wait to see the Nick's et al lay waste to the AL!
There's an old saying: 50 percent of what's going to happen, you have no control over. And the other 50 percent is going to happen anyway." -- Arte Moreno
The OC for Garland trade...
Looks a hell of a lot better now than it did yesterday.
Angels fan since '67
That seems to be the trend
with that trade.

I'll miss Big John, but that's why we've got depth. That's why we've got a deep farm system. We'll be fine!
I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious.

Boy
it's sure a good thing the Mariners suck and will regress significantly this year, leaving us with a sure thing first place anyway.
Thank God our division sucks.
