John Lackey to Miss Most of April

He starts on May 1st. At this point, A month of No Escobar and No Lackey seems like it is not insurmountable...

By May 15, if all goes well, both Lackey and Escobar should be back. In the meantime, the Halos have 6 weeks to audition folks and make an informed decision about who of the Saunders/Santana/Moseley trio is worth keeping and who is trade bait. Similarly, if they REALLY need someone, Nick Adenhart is a phone call away.

This allows for something pretty rare - Major League Evaluation - of multiple folks out of necessity. The front office has no choice but to check these guys out, so the fan base can't really complain and management gets really good information about performance, handling adversity, etc. I can tolerate it from that perspective - but it still blows.

Yeah, we've seen these three before - but this isn't Moseley filling in for Colon v. 2007 for two weeks; this is Saunders/Santana/Moseley filling for one of the best 1-2 combinations in the big leagues for six weeks - or about 7 starts.

There is information to glean from this.

And - don't be frightened of Seattle - they have the Bavasi kid running them - they'll stumble out of the gate.

i know we can see it everywhere we look, but i think its funny how when the ace of the yanks, mets, or bosox gets a scratch on their left calf, its "breaking news" on the site, but the ace of the angels, who happened to be the ERA leader in the AL last year, has a triceps strain, and NOTHING..

imagine if the miguel cabrera trade happened.

1. With an extra month off, Lackey will be rested and in great shape for the play-offs
2. So will MySpace
3. The Mariners can't bat for shit (and Texas/Oakland still suck)
4. A couple of early starts for Adenhart in the bigs might be the making of him
5. Garland, Weaver, Santana, Sanders, Adenhart/Moseley is still better than most of the major leagues

If anything the Yankees have taught us is that June is when you need to make your move.

maybe the injuries occurring before the season beginning means they won't happen during the season.

i wonder how well a rotation of weaver, garland, saunders, santana, and moseley would do... who'd be the stopper in that? who stops a losing streak?

I don't like this one bit. The depth that we all thought we'd have has quickly gone away.

it's sure a good thing the Mariners suck and will regress significantly this year, leaving us with a sure thing first place anyway.
