Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Sciocia a 'hot-head'?

I was talking with a friend of mine who recently moved to So Cal from Indiana.  He is a Yankee fan (yeah I know.)

I was telling him that I was going to make him an Angel fan in due time.  In the course of discussion, he said that he didn't like Sciocia because he was a 'hot-head'.  He stated,  "We must watching two different versions of Sports Center" -- because he's seen press conferences and such...

What the hell is he talking about?

Wha?
Scioscia is rarely ejected.  He often converses with umpires, but he never throws a tantrum, and virtually never gets in their faces.  In fact, quite the opposite.  I've actually seen him get umpires to reverse their calls, and it's probably because of the calm and reasoned approach that he appears to take.  I say "appears," because unless Hud is doing his lip-reading thing, it's hard to know what's actually being said on the field.

Until Sosh
I never saw an ump reverse his call. I agree. He's a diplomat, and it helps us win games.

Soxh
is a pretty "blue" manager if you know what i mean.

yes
he is rather "blue"; the f-bomb being one of his favorite expletives. But him flying off like Piniella is a rare occurrence.

I've seen Mike get frustrated...
with bad calls and such, but the guy knows the rules, more than almost anyone i've ever seen. He's usually fairly calm when "discussing" disagreements with the umps.

I've never seen him blow up Earl Weaver style!

Tell your friend
it might be time to stop smoking whatever he is smoking. Hallucinations are not a good sign

AGREED
with all due respect, RED, your friend sounds like a cracksmoker.

He's totally mellow ...
Mellow enough that he managed to get roped into the notorious '86 Dodgers "Baseball Boogie" video. Even though Sosh tried to stay in the background in his green satin jacket, I still can't get the pictures out of my head from this monstrosity ...

If you haven't seen it yet, be warned ... keep sharp implements safely tucked away.

Incredible! They're boogeyin' the year we

Hersheiser certainly is no introvert.

Holy Smokes! Gadzooks!
That is one of the most hideous things I have ever witnessed.
Let's go, Spiezio!

Hot Head?
The only thing I can think of is that angry Papa Panda Bear look he has sitting in the dugout after a bad strike call (if we are batting) or a bad strike no-call (if we are pitching).

I heard he eats pasta while sitting in the dugout (maybe there are rats there, too?), so maybe he is pissed that his fusilli carbonara is being interrupted?

Let's go, Spiezio!

Joe Torre is so mellow
...and that might skew his perspective of Scioscia as a Yankee fan

by swiss mcgee on Mar 7, 2008 11:52 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

my friend in question also said...
that he loves Torre because he's such a great player manager in the clubhouse.

This guy in question really does know his baseball... maybe it is the crack talking.
