Nice day for a split squad

To answer Missus Halofan (I am sure she knows the answer already by now, but I post this for everyone else's enjoyment):
"Doubleheader: Two games, as of baseball, between the same teams on the same day in immediate succession"

A split squad game means that half of the squad goes and plays one game in one location, while the rest play another game in another location. Likely, the games are even being played at the same time.

I think that would be a big mistake.

How long and hard has the team over the years looked for a power hitting outfielder capable of 20-25 HRs? How valuable is that?

If tomorrow, Garret Anderson went down with that upper back arthritis or whatever, who would you want replacing him in the lineup? Reggie Willits? Gary Matthews Jr? Kendry Morales?, Nathan Haynes? Terry Evans? Dee Brown?

Who would we want in the lineup if Vlad went down?

Doesn't almost everyone reading this wish that Rivera were the roving outfielder rather than GMJr?

Jose Guillen, minus the attitude, was a valuable player. Rivera was part of the trade we got for Guillen.....probably one of the best moves Stoneman made.

Rivera turns 30 this season, earns just over $2MM, has a canon for an arm, doesn't strike out much, hits righties as good or better than lefties. So far as I can tell, he has a damn good attitude.

If they trade him, they'd better damn well get something very valuable in return.

Colon, with one good year, was a bad signing. I don't fault Stoneman for it (how could he have known?)... but still not a good signing.

Without Colon's 18 wins in 2004 (most of which cam e in a very strong 2nd half, when the team needed them most), we do not win the West.

Without his Cy 2005 we do not win the West.

Bartolo Colon was the co-ace and ace of two Angels division winners.

Wins are not a good stat for evaluating a pitcher.

Wins are extremely important for the team. I think yours might be the most misplaced truism I've ever read.

Bartolo pitched superbly

Bartolo pitched superbly for a season and a half, and was integral in two division championships.

No Bartolo in '04 = not enough wins to win the division.

No Bartolo in '05 = not enough wins to win the division.
