Nice day for a split squad
"Doubleheader: Two games, as of baseball, between the same teams on the same day in immediate succession"
A split squad game means that half of the squad goes and plays one game in one location, while the rest play another game in another location. Likely, the games are even being played at the same time.

I think that would be a big mistake.
If tomorrow, Garret Anderson went down with that upper back arthritis or whatever, who would you want replacing him in the lineup? Reggie Willits? Gary Matthews Jr? Kendry Morales?, Nathan Haynes? Terry Evans? Dee Brown?
Who would we want in the lineup if Vlad went down?
Doesn't almost everyone reading this wish that Rivera were the roving outfielder rather than GMJr?
Jose Guillen, minus the attitude, was a valuable player. Rivera was part of the trade we got for Guillen.....probably one of the best moves Stoneman made.
Rivera turns 30 this season, earns just over $2MM, has a canon for an arm, doesn't strike out much, hits righties as good or better than lefties. So far as I can tell, he has a damn good attitude.
If they trade him, they'd better damn well get something very valuable in return.

Wins are extremely important for the team. I think yours might be the most misplaced truism I've ever read.

Bartolo pitched superbly
No Bartolo in '04 = not enough wins to win the division.
No Bartolo in '05 = not enough wins to win the division.
Does THAT fucking mean something? Anything? Or does it mean nothing?
